  1. did they confuse 'miracle' with 'miserable'? Typo perhaps?

Yes it must be that  .

I live in the area and i would just be more happy if they could make works/mantain what is already in place, for istance, you go to a national park advertising on the map, restaurants, coffee shops, pleanty of food and other things all around, and as soon as you have paid your tickets to get entry (full price) you discover that there is nobody working there and it's all shut down, obviously the guard selling the tickets could not bother with informing visitors and the people inside don't really want to be bothered with questions, they just live there and care only for their own business, not tourists or the job they are supposed to do.

The roads are veeery dangerous, one day they are fine and the following day you see either craters or little mountains the size of a full grown buffalo appearing just like that, then there is this hype when talking with the locals, they are so sure these ricefields are the next tourist attraction after the more famous ones....they did even try to sell me a few hotspots, one of which just made it to the news recently with 40 or so illegal resorts, so glad now i didn't invest on them, but without a proper land title was no way i would trust them.

Really it's like a circus here, every now and then you see someone bringing up some stuff exactly like that, but who knows? maybe they will find some investors among us too? :D

  2. kraap-head. you come up with that all by yourself?

off coarse i don't, usually i give a call to your sister first for a quick pre-approval...you seems to enjoy very much some local use, don't you?

  3. Don't forget to run a Dutch or German flag above it showing how much the Italians appreciate the bailout by the stronger EU countries. (why are we so stupid :( )

Sorry but i don't get your point. You are not trying to say that what i reported it's not correct, right? as in this case you might want to go and read some first hand experience by other people here, i still remember a person which wanted to put an italian flag on his restaurant, clearly to advertise effectively the products he was selling, but being officially denied, he couldn't do it! Nothing to do with the Dutch, German or Italian governments, in those country there are a bit more civilized laws and you can put whatever flag you want in your place without the risk of the police stepping in about that, the person in the end resorted to put some coloured stripes recalling the colours of the flag he wanted, but NO FLAG! Welcome to Thailand :D

  4. To see a case like this one it's really sad, and on top of it you have to add that the country where we are currently residing can (by law) just lock up in jail any good samaritane doing good deeds as that will require setting up a charitable company and paying an exorbitant amount of cash to keep it running, that's actually really upsetting.

IMO our only hope to see something done is to convince embassies to take the appropriated steps to do something for their own people, they shouldn't take advantage of their diplomatic immunity just to avoid paying road fines or similar things, they need to do something and quick, what happened to that initiative they have taken in Chiang Mai? Is it already over? Otherways it might make sense to have a bird like this in every embassy....http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-13629772

  5. Have a look at one of those shops selling football T-shirts, usually they have flags as well.

Be carefull on the way you use it, some kraap-head can get very offended if you don't put a local flag on top of it or your flag is in a higher position, however you might be already aware about the stuff, just a reminder....

  6. How can taxi driver and petrol pump attendant can cheat you ? The price is displayed on the counter and same for everybody .

Bar owners ? The place where I go, the prices are either written on the wall or on the menu, no cheating either.

You just need to avoid the tourist traps. Not long ago, I went to visit a friend who stay in the same guest house for the past 15 years, Federal Hotel if I remember wel. For the price he pays for his lousy room, I can stay in a 5 stars hotel, breakfast buffet included. I say some people deserve to be cheated.

Taxi drivers can cheat you in soo many different ways, from using a rigged meter to just pretending for whatever reason to take a much longer way and so on, while some petrol station attendant do not reset the price on the pumps so you pay much more or they just give you the wrong change if they gave it to you at all...

Bar owners, we could write a book about the miriads of cheats.......are you being honest with your questions? I find it hard to believe you are not yet aware of all the so many cheats taking place here, not just in "tourist trap" locations as you wrote, you could go in the middle of the jungle and still find people that try to cheat you for whatever reasons....

  7. No tourist will waste an hour going from vendor to vendor trying to find out the best deal on rice with chicken.

More and more people are doing some sort of researches before traveling (internet, word of mouth, printed materials, etc), especially those on a budget, and these kind of information are certainly of high interest to them as it will increase their buying power even x10, we have to share our knowledge.

  8. that would be more work,

"Work" ? ohhhh don't say that word in Thailand, they already made it illegal for foreigners and i heard some rumours that there are some revolutionary plans to expand the illegality of it to the indigenous population as well, which however are already doing their best to stop this unusual practice :D

  10. it took nearly 45 minutes to be served.

How long does it take to check the passport photocopies and proof of address. 15 seconds? You're making it sound like they have to wade through mountains of paperwork.

Why we should doubt the GamLing report?

Don't you ever came across some Immo that for some mysterious reasons take much longer to finish his task of what we would expect?

I have been in similar situation myself, an officer that keeps going up and down looking at all the possible stamps on the passport, then going back again and repeating this many times, then have a stare at the universe and doing it again, sometime slowly and sometime in a rush as if was desperately looking for something in it.....i even had one making personal phone calls, putting my passport inside a folder on his desk and relaxing on his chair on front of me, maybe expecting some harsh reactions? who really knows? then he took it back and gave it to me, TIT

I also experinced some very quick ones, maybe some very efficient officer....or perhaps just one that couldn't be bothered to do his job properly.

  11. Why do farang become monks?

So that when they eventually go home, they can drop it into the conversation and be regarded as mysterious, ascetic and spiritual.............

................very effective bait for picking up good-looking chicks.

For sure it's very effective if you just want to jump whatever cue you have on front of you, to let's say, just enjoy a coffee with your mates

  12. No, i think about beavers a lot though!

Leckyman...do you live on a dam? :D aren't the beavers herbivore?

The OP seems to have a problem in getting rid of snakes, the badger likes to eat snakes of any sizes or danger, have a look at the "Diet" section on the Wikipedia link i previously posted :)
