  1. Maybe the 42" TV put people off.

Is there really a necessity to have TV's in this quality of restaurant ?

Was the shape of your companion relevant to this story ?

That was not a tv, but a projector fixed on the ceiling, it was much bigger than 42", but what you can see on the pic is the "mirror" like reflection of it on a window located on the other side (the actual projector/projected area is not on this pic).

It was a nice touch though.

The additional details were putted in just to give a better idea of the current scenario, that's all

  2. And us whiteys wonder why the locals call us kwai laugh.png

Is it this referred to choosing western food instead of cheap local food?

If yes, i like many thai dishes, but i still prefere to eat western food if there is a chance, do you think it is a crime or silly if one follow his own taste? i didn't relocate in this area for the choice of available restaurants if this might help you in casting your judgements...biggrin.png

  3. Yeah, but how were the burgers?

Ulysses i had noodles biggrin.png , which is a dish i love and was more sensitively priced.

Off course i could easily have gone for the burger, but i wasn't in the mood for a disappointment that night, so after a brief thinking, summing up the rock hardness of the local beef + the fairness used by too many businesses in pricing up theyr products, i had a satisfactory and tasty meal.

  4. Went recently out for dinner with a nicely shaped friend of mine, curious to try this new place out.

Around our area (Prachinburi region), we haven't got the choices of western food easily available in more civilized areas and this place was looking promising.

Once inside we realize that no other customers were around, really, nobody at all at dinner time, and there was something between 5 and 10 people apparently working on the floor area.

I understand that efforts have been made to make the place looks better of what is around, apart from the toilettes that make you feel as you are in a petrol station, but how can one expect to sell a burger for a whole day wage of a local person??

Seems to be another case of thai business sense at his best....

  5. Hi all !

This morning i went to find out what was going on in my garden, as i was hearing some sort of distress calls, the ones being emitted by a bird having some sort of problems, to my surprise, no birds were around but i could only see a 2 meter long dark snake, with his head the size of a chicken egg and his larger middle part the size of a can on coke, sorry no pictures as i rushed in to take some tools to chop him off...but he made a quicker escape.

I did ask a local person, which proved in the past to be a very unreliable source in fact of prices......if he knew of a snake that sound like a bird, and his answer was more or less on this line "yes, it's very poisonus and the hospitals around here have no antidote for his venom".

Now, i never seen in my life a snake capable of this, at first i thought he was eating a bird but i could not see any, also the first time i heard a geko sound, i thought it was some sort of bird too, back in old EU lizards don't tweets....

  6. The bumbling idiot that forgot the rings was a mechanic

If it can be of any consolation, the Yamaha mechanic olding the bronze medal of the mechanics, which is hanging on the wall in full view, said that the Yamaha Lube(oil) was not necessary for the engine and insisted in wanting me to leave without any oil on the motocy.....i don't want even think of what the "Gold" medal champion could be capable of partytime2.gif

  7. Before you mentioned some cup with 2 pistons inside, but what you show now is the piston including the segment rings. So it looks like they did a major overhaul of your engine.

Did your bike have many miles on the clock, since mine has less than 8000 Km yet so I think it would not need a revision yet.

Sorry but i am not into mechanics as you can notice, eh eh, i describe the "piston" as a cup because if you turn it upside down, on the inside it was empty, looking just as a cup....when they disassembled the whole thing, i remember 2 small metal parts sticking out which i assumed perhaps they connect with it somehow? however, that's the part you are looking for.

The motocy have almost 40k on the clock at the moment, i like long rides every now and then, and apart from this small hitch, it's a great machine biggrin.png

  8. Thanks for the heads up Surayu, and I would appreciate if someone with some knowledge could give me a further lead as to which is the part you are talking about.I guess they will not understand when I say that thing with 2 pistons inside, but I would like to get it fixed for sure.

I Googled up for spare parts and i found some close match, apparently the disc is called "big pulley" (?) and the other one "piston kit" (?), i believe the "dice" was possibly included with one of those things, but maybe not...

  9. Yamaha nuovo which would not fire up if it was parked for more than 48 hours.

That's seems to be a common problem with the Nouvo, better you take care of it asap, as i can tell you from experience that it will lead to the Nouvo not going to start at all anymore after a while.

The problems seems to depend from a small cup where 2 small pistons works inside, sorry i can't remember the exact technical word for it. Since the part exange, even if you leave it unused for a week or more it will start at the first try, they also changed a metal disc of the diameter of a toilette paper roll and 1 or 2 small things that looked as tubolar dices probably made of some sort of magnet material, i choose to use only original parts from Yamaha and the bill was less than 3.000 , they also had not original parts available for much less but as i do long rides sometime, i prefere to be safe, taking the motocy aparts and putting it back took them 4 or 5 hours.

  10. Huge amount of information content in your post. They are "attached to the money". A Honda dealer in Pattaya. Is there more to say. Better take a Yamaha dealer in Khon Kaen wink.png

Believe me, even in Pattaya there are honest people and you can get good deals in almost everything you are looking for, just this place in my personal experience doesn't fall in this category, and from what i can see here, it just reinforce my opinion about them, enough said....

  11. " However, all of the accused officers have denied any wrongdoing, claiming that the seized drugs were not reported because they were in the middle of an anti-narcotics operation."

I am sure they are telling the true, the random pill they find in your pocket just out of the blue, must be coming from somewhere, and if they officially declare them as their possession, how can they say it belongs to you after?

Another 300.000 potentially busted farangs narcotic's operation gone in smoke ph34r.png

  12. I have a negative view of this place too, as they seems to be way too much attached to the money, but in a bad way, so much that being dishonest for them is just a way to conduct business, i don't care if it depends from the top or the bottom, i will just give them a wide skip, almost everywhere you go in Thailand, there is not exactly a shortage of places where you can purchase a bike, so, thank you and goodbye laugh.png

  13. Well, at Tesco Lotus, i noticed that there are always items in the wrong shelves, so the price wouldn't match, the best thing to do is make sure the small number under the bar codes, matches on both the product you are looking at and the price on display on the shelf.

Something crazy is when you go to buy a refill for something you have bought before and then notice that it would be much cheaper to buy the whole thing again, some other indipendent thai store charge you more if you buy large quantities (instead to give you a discount!).

Recently i came across a girl working at the till, that was letting some item i had to pay for, slip out of the shopping bag, i also noticed that more items were kind of hideing in that small corner were she put them....however my lucky eye was able to see that.

Big C and Tesco Lotus have some of the most repetitive and annoying jingles, costantly on...

  14. Hit on the side of the head with a nightstick for carrying balloons. Amazing. The foreigner would probably be dead now if the security guard was allowed to carry a gun.

The BTS yam was probably still fresh from the army, and knows that playing with balloons in this country is a strict privilege reserved to the generals, how this foreigner could dare such an affront?

  15. I am sure that there are at least a couple of places that charges more for a soda than for a beer! but i am still not drinking alcohol, in this place it would be way too dangerous to let your awareness to drop even a little, especially if you are driving too.

I never had a problem with it, if a random drunken local get offended if i don't share a bottle of local whisky with them, it's their problem, surely not mine...

  16. What about a large box full of those kind of "firecrakers" that make a huge blasting sound "BOOM" , usually used at the thai temples when people offer moneys, the more they offer and the loudest the bangs seems to be, or when there is a funeral so they scare away the spirit of the dead, that would make them feel as they are back home i guess, and bring back all their memories and nostalgic feelings, i am sure they are going to love you for it! please report back after you do and share your joy with us thumbsup.gif

  17. I so wish I took photos of certain things and showed them to the landlord a

You mean a THAI landlord?? biggrin.png if yes, better you don't even bother about it.

Just to give you an example of how the local vision of reality apply, one day i went to buy an item in the same very shop i had bought the same identical thing before, and i even had it with me during the conversation for comparison, the same very person that had sold it to me before would keep telling me there is no way they were the same, his item was a different and new very expansive top of the range, blah blah blah....which was just a total lie and the guy didn't had a minimum of self respect in making himself looks like such a clown......the "western" concept of logic/integrity doesn't apply here, so you have to expect this and much much more coming at some point, good luck!

  18. " Just leaves a bad taste in my mouth." ...you could try some mints for that.

If you end up with a scammer, there is nothing that is going to protect you, you can put in place as many inventory lists, pictures, written declarations, swearing to any gods, nothing is 100% secure, especially in this country, where they have elevated this practice to an art, just use common sense and always be ready for the worse....
