  1. Imagine the ferraris, Lambos and other cars with very low chassis.
  2. I think many young motorcyclists would love that. It would give them a chance to practice their motorcross skills.
  3. I quoted this in another posting. The most famous words in Thailand.
  4. All talk and no action. Several of our neighbours and ourselves have been complainging about a pub next door to us. This is in the middle of a reidential area, but some guy bought about 9 neighbouring houses and turned the area into an entertainment zone. The pubs stay open to 5 or 6 am (that is ok by me) , but their customers hold "parties" outside in the carpark, next to our house, all night long, screaming and shouting, preventing us from getting a good nights sleep. We complained to the owner of the area (there 2 more pubs about to open) and his only remark was "sleep during the day." We have complained to the police with photographic eveidence, but nothing happens.
  5. I don't smoke and have nothing against smokers, but a quick Google search gave a list of websites from recognised health institutes debating the dangers of vaping. https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/health/wellness-and-prevention/what-does-vaping-do-to-your-lungs https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/health/wellness-and-prevention/what-does-vaping-do-to-your-lungs You are right about cigarettes being smelly. My close friend gave up smoking (30 or more a day) and started vaping, so now he doesn't stink like he used to. His lungs are badly damaged, but that is through heavy smoking for 40+ years.
  6. These words can be used again and again when discussing health and laws in Thailand.
  7. My thoughts too. The report said Why more in this particular area and not the whole country? I doubt very much if vaping alone is the cause, but I am noit a medical expert.
  8. This is the third or fourth case I have read about over the last 6 or 7 months.
  9. oh, according the headline, I thought the dog was driving a motorbike and the boy was fleeing. (sorry for my bad taste, but honestly when i glanced at the headline that was my first thought) yes, it is sad. I have often seen people on bicycles and motorbikes swerve as dogs run towards them. Maybe someone older and more experienced woyuld have stood their ground as I don't think I have ever seen a dog make contact with a motorcyclist.
  10. Sorry, maybe I didn't make my point clear. I meant the whole idea of banning beer on trains is absurd. Surely one should be allowed to enjoy a few beers and relax.
  11. The whole idea is absurd. Most tourists travel by air or minivan where they can't drink either. The ban was enforced because an SRT employee had been drinking and molested a female passenger. Why not just ban employees from drinking? Anyway, I couldn't care less as I have never been on a train in Thailand and probably never will.
  12. Add 3 more. My wife and I both went to the hospital with coughing and breathing difficulties. The doctors blamed it on the pollution and the construction work, next door, with jackhammers pounding away at concrete all day didn't didn't help much either. Our neighbour on the other side was admitted for 2 days.
  13. "Enhanced safety measures" is not the right answer. Enhanced law enforcement is necessary. Most drivers know the crossings are there, but have no intention of stopping
  14. Maybe that's why there are so many enormous Chinese restaurants that never seem to have any customers.
  15. That is exactly what the head of the English department in my university told me 20 years ago.
  16. Uhm I disagree. The students at many of the so-called "international schools" are regarded as "paying customers." Students cannot fail and most get "A". It looks good on the school record. I am tutoring a couple of students from a fairly well known international school. They speak very poor English and know only a few basic words, yet they "write" an 18 page report on a British monarch and a 15 page report on "how to extract your own DNA" and get A's. How? Copy and paste + chat GPT, grammarly and so on. Simarlily, I taught graduate students at a university, but was removed by the head of department, after I upset two girls who were plagiarizing. They were "our paying customers."
  17. Only .skin and .to are working for me. I use https://x1337x.cc
  18. I have just finished watching The Day of the Jackal: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt24053860/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk Highly recommended
  19. I agree that you should respect the laws and cultures of the country. I am surprised that the shops that sell alcohol in your village are closed. I am in Bangkok and alcohol has been sold nearly all day near me. Do they care about Budhism ? Thai people that want alcohol know where to go to get it. It is the tourists that are hit by the ban.
  20. Only too true. I passed my local Thai pub 6.30 this morning and there were about 10 people sitting outside happily drinking beer as if it was a normal thing to do. Go to the tourist areas and everything is closed.
  21. She didn't even take any notice of the kick.
  22. Not true. Most taxi drivers know these particular places like the back of their hands. They know exactly when to drag their seatbelts on and off as well. Many motorcyclists, taxi and private car drivers know the crossings are there, but simply don't want to stop as they know they won't be punished.
  23. ..... while she enjoys the fresh, cool air in Harbin
