  1. Many of my friends (English and American) often say "Ciao" when we part. It ihas almost become the norm.
  2. Yep and I live in Baan Farang according to the locals.
  3. The article said it was a "full scale test". Nothing about an earthquake. I remember a few months ago there was a "full scale test" in the UK and as far as I remember, everyone received the message. I d
  4. Was this tested nationwide? I didn't receive anything.
  5. I went abroad last February and did my first 90 report in person as we should. I then tried to do the next report online but it was rejected, so I ended up going to Chaeng Wattana again. The third time, I tried twice but the application was rejected each time within minutes of submitting and in the email I only had this reason Name Peter xxx Passport Number: 12345687 Nationality. GBR British as I had entered, so I looked at the slip in my passport and to my surprise my nationality was given as GBN British Overseas National. This was the information entered by the officer at Chaeng Wattana, so I tried again using GBN. There were about 4 different codes for Great Britain anyway, Hey Presto! It was accepted. So I enetered GBN the following application. Great! Accepted again. Last week I went to do the online application and guess what, they have updated the system so now there is only one possible British Nationality and that is GBR, so Itried that. Of course this has now been rejected 3 times within minutes of each application. Through no fault of my own I now have to go to CW again!
  6. Not for foreigners. I have one for MRT where I get 50% discount, but BTS refuse to allow foreigners to have these cards. I hardly ever use BTS nowadays, but use MRT regularly, so I am not reeally bothered by it. I hate it though when my American friends (Thai heritage) come here on vacation and get all the Thai discounts and priveleges even though they can't speak Thai, but hey, my skin is white whereas theirs is darker.
  7. I can copy and paste my last posting "This seems to be an every day occurrence now." I wonder how many times next week I can use these words.
  8. I tried that with the "elder card", but apparently the lamp on the entrance gate lights up in different comours according to the ticket. I was stopped and the security card confiscated my card I had just added 500 baht), so I asked for a refund. "No, you steal from BTS. You have big problem.", even though I spoke Thai to them. Anyway, it ended with me buying a new Rabbit card.
  9. From what I gather it isn't "Thai residents", but Thai people and it isn't "tourists", but "foreigners."
  10. Google is not a native speaker of English. Do you pronounce the "t" in "water" and "butter"? I didn't when I was young because that was the dialect I was brought up in. Later, I moved to the south east of England and friends at school and people all around me kept correcting my grammar and pronunciation. There is no one correct native English pronunciation as there are hundreds of dialects and to be fair they are all correct. Oh, I pronounce the "T" in often.
  11. The way the bus slowly veered off the road is almost like the bus driver had fallen asleep. I was once on a bus from Pattaya and I noticed the bus was slowly slowing down and changing lanes and when I looked up in the driver's mirror I could see his eyes were closed. I clapped my hands hard and shouted and he woke up, straightened the bus up and carried on. I made several loud coughs and sneezes on the rest of the journey. I never travel by bus nowadays. Nice to know that no one was killed in this accident and I hope that the injured recover quickly.
  12. Then why didn't the driver slow down. Poor visibility isn't the cause. Going too fast under low visibilty could be.
  13. Maybe they parked at other places and were driven to this house. That seems to be what happens near us. The Alphards drive back and forth bringing 4 or 5 Chinese people each time, so it doesn't look so suspicious.
  14. The operative word being "could." Also, why are they only banned during Songkran? I would love to know how many actually get fined because I am sure they will out and about on those roads.
  15. I have noticed that if I close down the computer and restart within a short time (up to 30 minutes) there are no problems, but when I shutdown at night and try to turn on in the morning I need to do a hard restart. I have disabled fast start up. Set all button and lid settings to "turn off computer" A Google search said that it could be a RAM problem, but this is a new RAM module and a Lenovo Vantage scan showed no problems. I still have my old hard disk installed and there were some bad, unreadable sectors on that, but I can't imagine that that causes this.
  16. We shouldn't jump to conclusions, but with all the Chinese people being convicted of illegal activities nowadays, it seemed they had something to hide.
  17. It sometimes feels like people are not supposed to walk in cities with blocked footpaths, no footpaths and total disrepect for pedestrians.
  18. Yes, it Corei5 8th gen. Yes, I will
  19. No, I didn't do a system back up. As I mentioned my plan was to buy SSD drive, extra ram and do the work at home, where of course I would have done a disk image. The guy in the shop offered to do the whole thing for 500 baht, so I agreed. I expected him simply to do the same. Make a disk image either as a back up or by copying from the hard drive.
  20. I didn't want to leave it with him, but after 2.5 hours of waiting I had to leave. As I said I was going to add the extra RAM (remove the old 8 GB and add a 12 GB) and slot in the SSD drive myself. I really believed it was a 10 minute job. I was quite happy to ditch the old hard drive, and I am not sure what he did when he started reformatting it. Anyway, I have just noticed that I still need a hard reset after a longer shutdown. I am beginning to wonder if there is a fault with the SSD drive although I ran Lenovo Vantage and all was well. Time for a clean install!
  21. Yes, I must admit I thought about doing a clean install. I backed up my data last week, so I am ok with that.
  22. Yes, I saw the SSD drive listed in the boot sequence, but diabled the USB anyway. Maybe I should enable it, just in case I need it in the future. .
  23. windows 24H2 build26100.3476 It seems it is Windows Pro, whereas before I used Windows home. I can see the product key has been activated, but I really don't know if it a pirate copy or not. I prefer to have a genuine version.
  24. I went into the BIOS and disabled "usb boot" All the options in "power settings" were set to "sleep" and I have now changed to "shut down". I closed the laptop down and restarted immediately. All went well. I'll try again later today, but thanks a lot for your help
