  1. We spent about 6,000 Baht there the other day, which sister-in-law put on her card and was told she'd receive 30 Baht off next purchase.

    Only 30 baht???

Usually we get 100 to 120 baht per 1000 spent. Stop the bill at 1000. Pick up the 120 discount coupo and use it on the rest of your goods.

Stupid idea but it is the only way as these 120 baht discount coupons are only valid for 2 or 3 days.

Last time I got one I gave it to the lady behind me in the queue as I knew I couldn't use it within the three days it was valid. (Oh you have to buy for at least 300 baht to be able to use the coupon)

Plan well and you can save about 600 baht on your 6000 Baht worth of purchase.

Oh .... and you annoy the customers behind you as it take time to do all those transactions.

  2. "50 euros", "$17", "£11" why do you guys mention these prices? This is Thailand not Usa or Europe.

When I lived in Europe my hospitals were free so even 10 baht would be extortionate compared with that.

The OP feels ripped off because he paid 600 baht for Doctor's fees and other medical charges. I agree with him. I had to have a wound attended to every day for a week and each time they tried to weigh me, take my temperature and blood pressure for a total of about 900 Baht . I told them that there was no need to do that. I only wanted my wound cleaned and a new dressing. I still received the bill with about 1000 Baht for "other medical fees", Everytime I had to fight to have the amount removed from my bill.

I couldn't give a #$%^ if you say it "is only 50 dollars" " 10 pounds" . This is Thailand and 1000 Baht is a rip off just to be weighed and have one's temperature taken.

  3. "We hope Japanese authorities understand that he has no intention to overstay. It's just that he had been detained for interrogation over the gun incident," Police Spokesman Lt-General Prawut Thavornsiri said yesterday.

Oh.... what about the foreign tourists who are hospitalised in Thailand just before their visa expires?

They have no intention of overstaying, but still get fined if they don't apply for an extension.

  4. As I said all along this is not that serious as to commit a crime like this you need to show "Intent". Since he did not intend to commit a crime then they did the only thing they could do. Which was: Hold Him! Question Him! Then let Him Go!

You are probably 100% correct, but how can you be so certain?

Terrorists nowadays resort to all sorts of methods to achieve the goals.

I am sure EVERY SINGLE PERSON who flies is well aware of the rules about fire arms. Just arriving at the airport and seeing all the signs would be enough to jog someone's memory and make them check their baggage if they have carried a weapon. I cannot believe that he forgot he had it.

  5. come on 2 hours is taking the piss and chair space up from other customers, I would have put signs up all around stating 30 minutes per table maximum, or you will be charged a fee,

    I agree with you.

I have beenasked to teach in coffee shops, McDonalds and other places. I did it once and will never do it again. There are far too many distractions and too too much noise.

I have seen many people hold business meetimgs in these places and find it very strange. Surely companies have meeting rooms to have meetings.

I guess if someone wants to teach or hold a meeting in a coffee shop or restaurant it is ok - at off peak hours! I went to Black Canyon to eat a few months ago and on the table next to me was a guy with a laptop. He had an empty glass next to him. He was actually taking customers and telling their fortunes. I was in there for a good hour and not one of his "customers" bought anythng. A few weeks later I went there to eat on a Sunday and he was there again. There were no empty seats and I was in a bit of a bad mood anyway, so I complained about him. I guess you know reply - "mai pen rai". They lost my custom, not only that day but many more times. I have now found a new place to eat.

I remember a few years ago, I went to Paris and discovered that the toilets in McDonalds were relatively clean. I started to go there but was sonn stopped by staff who told me that I had to buy food first. Ok, I bought food and to my surprise, as soon as I had finished eating, they removed my tray and two or three minutes later asked me to leave. I am not complaining. If I had a restaurant I would do the same.

  6. The answer is simple... these unfortunate people have the 'wrong' skin color, speak the 'wrong' language, and follow the 'wrong' religion in the eyes of the army and many of the traditional elite. So they are treated as if their lives are worth nothing. Sadly, much like the Rohingya and those innocent people killed at Krue Se and Tak Bae.

You read what the PM regards them as.

    Pretty much sums it up.

  7. I'll eat my hat if those scandalous, way overpriced CTX scanners have been re-calibrated or even serviced since they were installed. It's called Security Theater in the US; they pretend to protect us at our expense/inconvenience and we, at least some of us, feel safer. If Kamronwit's son really is in Japan showing paperwork that the gun was legally bought in Thailand, then the headline makes the airport's director, Sirote Duangrat, look like a lying fool trying to cover-up the laxness of security at the airport he is responsible for. "Face". You have to laugh at the ridiculous lengths these guys will go to save it.

"Thai Airport Says Ex-Cop Arrested in Japan Didn't Bring Gun from Thailand". Then in the OP he goes on to quote him explaining how the gun really could have come through security but that it was not really a danger to the plane. You can't have it both ways, Khun Sirote. Either you claimed the gun didn't come from Thailand or you can sue the newspaper for misquoting you. Since Thailand has such a long history of reporters being scared to challenge patently BS statements by authorities, this has led to the authorities making the most inane comments as no one will point out to them how stupid it sounds (krieng jai - the act of never putting someone in and awkward or uncomfortable position), so they go blithely through life thinking they fooled everyone. Krieng jai is holding this country back as much as anything as there is no criticism; no criticism means there is no motivation for critical thinking. No critical thinking leads to poor planning... you see where I'm going with this?

    .

There was an article in the bangkok Post this morning stating that all scans are deleted after three days, so there are no records of the scans.

It went on to mention that (And I forget the exact words) the scanners may be in need of a service. Translated into English it means ... the scanners have never been serviced and are only for show, scanning only the largest of objects.

So, yes you are completely right.

  8. If he gets or has already been released ( as a previous post roported) by Japan they can really no longer call themselves a first world country! In this day and age with terrorist hijackings and when I have to stand in long lines having everything of mine checked and rechecked and scrutinised and confiscated and presents for my kids opened and x-rayed and the body frisking. Carrying a hand gun and ammo through any airport security check point should receive severe sentencing regardless of who the person is period. <deleted> you can't even take a bottle of water on an international flight!

I just spoke to my girlfriend and she changed her news to "will be released today after Thai Embassy negotiated with the Japanese police"

I should check and confirm the news before posting.

    Sorry.

  9. I go to a coffee shop that doesn't have a fixed price. They roast the beans themselves, bave excellent home made croissants and quiches.

There is a box by the door and you pay what you want.

Apart from that, there is a small coffee shop I know that serves really good fresh coffee for 15 baht!

I sometimes (not often) drink at a certain Starbucks mainly for the quietness and comfort of the place. Starbucks coffee is good, but overpriced.

Someone said Starbuck's near Tops Thong Lor is always crowded. Yes, with Hi so school kids who buy one cup of coffee between them and sit all afternoon sleeping in the comfy chairs.

    I never go there now.

  10. I have a friend who works at the airport and last Friday she was taken ill with high fever, headache, sore throat and body ache. My first thoughts were influenza but in the back of my mind I thought about MERs.

Anyway she went to the hospital and they just said that it was a "female thing and that she needed to sleep more."

Today she feels better and it most likely was a flu, but the way they put it as a "female thing."

Now that MERS is confirmed the health authorities really need to wake up before it is too late. I really hope that this is a isolated case.
