The trouble with Thai newspapers is that one day they report something and the next day the person being reported on says something completely different.
The original report says that no finger prints matched so they could be foreigners.
Today the Pol. Gen Prawut (according to Bangkok Post) said that he said that the two men spoke fluent Thai so they could NOT be foreigners.
Pity no one has a voice recording of the first interview.
-
It's just an excuse to start searching foreigners on Sukhumvit again, after the new order the other day for them to stop the searches.

I have been trying since lunchtime to connect to Thaivisa using my mobile app but it is impossible. No response from server.
I came home and tried on PC and got the same result and saw that the Internet was nearly at a standstill.
After doing a reset of my router, I manage to logon but it is still very slow.
What's happening?
-
Seems to vary by ISP
And even by time of day/date?
Today the homepage is being blocked again (ToT).
Guess they read Thaivisa
They are lucky they can read Thaivisa. I haven't been able to connect all afternoon

That's the first time I have heard that.
Ok let's enforce the law against those pesky foreigners.. forget about all the drunken drivers, red light jumping and so on.

0 milligrams and your gone. harsh.
Makes absolute sense and there is no legitimate argument against it.
I agree, but like almost every other law in Thailand it will never be enforced in the long run.

I think it's an absolute waste of time and totally unnecessary! i can understand it for those " few farang " that live quite a few KM away from an immigration office but most of the farang that i know of live close to an immigration office and hardly live " busy lives " that they can't visit the office personally.I just think its " pure laziness "
Are you the " lazy type of farang "....?

Come to Bangkok.
Chaeng Wattana is not an easy place to get to.
It is at least a 4 hour trip back and forth. 300 or 400 baht taxi fare.
I always do it by mail.

That's why Thais only eat with a fork and spoon don't you know they are taught from a young age that knives are dangerous LOL
And KFC now use plastic knives and forks.

I thought it would be up to the seller to set the price, and up to the buyer to decide if the price is reasonable and buy, or not.
It should be like that.
A typical example is a small restaurant near my office. It used to be absolutely packed. Good food and single dishes at around 40 baht.
I didn't go there for a couple of months and then when I did go, I noticed that it was almost empty.
I wondered why until I got the bill.
My 40 baht dish cost 85 baht. Now I hardly ever see customers. Won't be long before it closes down.

I read it as they have some bones which they believe belong to a man they found in a canal.
How did he lose them?

@ petedk If you insist on wearing Thais, no wonder you might have a problem at security. That's a bit colonial!!!!!!!!!!
@ All I've not been stopped in months and months. Yep I set everything off. Yep all the Thais set everything off!!!!!!!!!
Purely anecdotal, this, but is it only my impression that use of MRT has, fairly suddenly, gone way, way up. If that were true, maybe they've had to become more lax to sustain the throughput. Whatever, it's become, recently, way, way more lax than it was, whether that be with Thai or foreigner.
Oops. I don't know what happened there. I was on the MRT while writing, so maybe I was so obsessed with Thais that his word slipped in.
Anyway I also wear a tie sometimes.

He has got to admit that there has been an unusual large number of deaths on such a small island.
Some have dubious causes, some probably suicide.

I have one 3 in 1 coffee every morning, a ST double shot, which I get from the "odds and sods" counter at the local Post Office. Never seen it anywhere else. Full name is Sangthong Chumphon Coffee.
17% coffee, the rest a bit more sugar than creamer, costs 100 baht for 20.
Yes this is one of the better instant coffees.
It isn't so sweet and actually tastes of coffee.
I have a Thai friend who often goes to Chumphon and brings me a few bags.
I prefer brewed coffee but haven't a preferred coffee bean yet. I like some beans from Starbuck's but tbey are overpriced.

I agree that normally they just wave their torch and carry on talking to each other. It has been like that for a long time now.
I often thought that if a terrorist wanted to attack Thailand that the MRT or BTS would be easy targets.
Maybe that's why I see them checking foreigners more than Thais. Thais would never hurt Thais.
I feel sorry for the foreigners with 2 or 3 heavy suit cases , sweating like mad and having to lift the cases up onto the tables.
I don't mind just opening the zip to my bag and when they started the security checks a couple of years back, I always had my bag open ready.
Nowadays, having got used to the lower security level I keep the bag firmly on my back. That is until about a week ago and as I said earlier I have been stopped every single time I have passed through.
I think it is ok, but they should do it to everyone who sets the alarm off.
Oh I am not Arab looking. I am British, often wear a Thai and sometimes a jacket too.
-
I have noticed that the MRT security checks have been a complete waste of time, as everyone just walks through even though the alarm goes off.
They do, however, check the foreigners who get off the Airport link and enter the MRT at Petchaburi.
Here comes the point. For the past 5 days I have been stopped everytime I enter the MRT. My laptop sets the alarm off. I have nothing against that.
Everyday I see several Thais pass through and they are not stopped even thought the alarm goes off.
Just five minutes ago I followed a group of Thais and 3 or 4 of them set the alarm off but were not stopped.
My turn... I was stopped.
Am I just unlucky or is this a new policy?

Alcohol sure makes the world spin!
The majority of the posts here proves it.
No alcohol, no life.
I don't think the majority of posts prove that.
I am always home by midnight (except New Years Eve.) so the late evening restrictions don't affect me.
I don't drink a lot and hardly ever drink in the afternoons. I have on occasions stayed at a hotel or sat on the beach and fancied a cold beer instead of a fruit juice in the afternoon. This happens maybe once or twice a year.
Therefore I am against the restriction.
Apart from that, like all other laws it will NEVER be fully enforced.
If the police were to enforce laws strictly then all these silly new laws wouldn't be necessary. Stop people from drunk driving, punish them heavily, punish the people who encourage them. Stop stores from selling alcoho; to underaged kids and punish the people who do sell. (Child sex offenders are punished... why not people who sell alcohol to them?)

I read it as "boot" tourism.
Many things they do seems to go against tourists.
We've had all the negative publicity about polise harassing tourists, the murders on Koh Tao, two-tier pricing and the cheating taxi drivers and of course other scams.
Now they start with tighter alcohol laws and haven't lifted the martial law.
The alcohol laws don't affect me in any way but I know they affect tourists. That doesn't mean they are all alcoholics but they do like a beer or something with their lunch (which may be late). Also I never go out late at night but what I read and hear about nightlife now (closing at 1 am) will certainly deter some people from coming.
Clear up all the scams. Look at neighbouring countries for entertainmemt (alcohol, casinos, cleanliness, safety and respect of tourists) and maybe Thailand will begin to attract more tourists.

This is new ?
It is if they finally passed it as law. Even some of the bigger shops ignored it including foodland until recently, Villa can buy anytime still i think. Nobody has ever been prosecuted for selling out of hours as it was never an actual law.
Foodland has had the restriction since it was first announced, so has Villa.
I don't know which Villa you shop in, but the Villa near my home sells any amount of alcohol any time of day, any day of the year.
New Year baskets also contain alcohol in the form of whiskey. (This is also illegal).
Even if Villa stop selling , then the local shop next door to the police station will sell all day long. No ploblem!

Farang usual are big size and weigh a lot more than Thai people.
Hence Farang should pay a fuel premium.
If farang flying into Thailand can afford to pay thousands (some times tens of thousand) in jet fuel surcharge, I am sure they would not mind paying a few hundred Bahts in LPG fuel surcharge.
Farang needs to pay extra because they are rich and can afford to. Thai people are poor and have no money to pay.
I'm a small size farang and I weigh less than 70 kilos.
Jet fuel surcharge is imposed by the airline and not something which can be negotiated.
I am NOT rich! Thais watch too many TV soap operas which picture farangs living in large houses with big gardens and a swimming pool. In reality, life is not like that in the West and the majority of Westerners earn far less than Thais imagine. I can only afford to travel once a year for a couple of weeks if I'm lucky.
And if Thai people are so poor, how come I see them driving around in BMWs, Mercedes and Ferraris?
I am 80 Kg. I do get "farang big ... you pay more" from motorcycle guys but not taxis.
I am not rich. Work at a Thai government school. Thai government salary. I don't fly home every year.
I am sure I am not alone.

It's amazing how so many of you jump to conclusions without knowing anything.
I feel the two Burmese are scapegoats, but this poor young girl could have died for any number of reasons. No details of the cause of death.
Let's just wait, hope and pray that there is no foul play.

They could still refuse to take Japanese customers, even though they don't have the sign.
I don't know the new system at the airport. Are they forced to take the customers to wherever they want to go?
