Taxing times: Tourism Minister stands firm with 300 baht tourist tax
Xonax replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Another fine example of Dual Pricing in Thailand. This makes me feel, that they don't really want us here, even though they are heavily dependent on our money. -
AirAsia soars to new heights: Asia’s best low-cost carrier for 2024
Xonax replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I stopped using Air Asia a few years ago after two consecutively cancelled flights. Air Asia is no longer among the cheapest. I had a credit with them expiring soon and had to pay 8,000 Baht for two return tickets from Bangkok to Phuket including 2x20 kg luggage in September. -
Thailand Considers VAT on Imported Goods Under 1,500 Baht

Good luck with that. It will be an administrative and logistics nightmare. -
New Tax Rules for Expats in Thailand Spark Concern
Xonax replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
This seems like a bulletproof loophole. There will probably be found other ways to get around the demand for taxation. The most obvious way to avoid taxation in Thailand, will be to spend as little money as possible in Thailand, compared to now, where we spend or save all your money in Thailand. I guess that this was not the governments intention with this law. I have already started paying for all my international purchases with my foreign credit card, in order to avoid taxation in Thailand. I am from a country with a double taxation agreement with Thailand and my pension have already been taxed before I receive it. I wonder if I will be able to deduct the full already paid tax, when I transfer only a smaller amount of my pension to Thailand. -
New Mobile Banking Rules Aim to Curb 'Horse' Accounts
Xonax replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
My sim is also in my wifes name. This because the phone companies did not allow me to have a post paid account with them, without having a work permit. Why is this information shared only on the day it is effective? Would have been nice to have a little time to get things changed. -

Motorcycle Accident in Pattaya Claims Life of a British Man
Xonax replied to snoop1130's topic in Pattaya News
The video does not match the article, since they were driving in different directions. The video does not show the accident itself, but it is not hard to imagine, that the vendor probably made a right turn in front of the brit who was driving at high speed in opposite direction. -
British Tourist Dies in Tragic Jet Ski Accident in Phuket
Xonax replied to snoop1130's topic in Phuket News
Why did he die in a Bangkok hospital, if the accident happened in Phuket? -
Tourism campaign in the works to promote second-tier provinces
Xonax replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
I have visited a few of these provinces and wouldn't mind to visit more of them, if I could only find some decent restaurants and hotels there! -

Aussie Woman Reveals Harrowing Tales from Infamous Thai Prison

Giving inmates a harsh prison term, will deter many others from becoming criminals, which is a great benefit to society! -
Bangkok Chaos: Pickup Plummets From 4/FL Hospital Car Park
Xonax replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
My theory: Imagine a very small woman in a very large car. She would hardly be able to see above the dashboard. Going up on a ramp would make her see absolutely nothing in front of the car. Only when the car is on level ground after having left the ramp, she will suddenly have seen the parked car in front of her, probably panicked and pushed the accellerator instead of the brake. Having a small wife myself, I have never understood why they keep making the dashboards higher in new cars, but I guess that it must be for the drivers and passengers safety. But solving one safety problem by raising the dashboards, will just create another safety problem, when smaller people are behind the wheel. Here in Bangkok, I have driven with several taxi drivers who barely had a view above the dashboard in their Toyota Altis. -
Public Indecency at Wat Phra Kaew Spurs National Outrage and Debate
Xonax replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
When Thailand offer visa free entrance for certain countries, they should also accept, that not all them are well behaved. -
One could only hope, that this will hit international news just as hard, as when the swiss guy gently kicked the female doctor away from "his" stairs! A country with such a negligent police force, deserves to be avoided by many tourists.

Thailand Cracks Down on E-Cigarette Sales with Fines
Xonax replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Why not ban real cigarettes with tobacco as well? They are without doubt killing and making more people sick, than if all smokers switched to vaping. We all know that problem is, that there is no monopoly that controls e-cigarettes. At least vape smells better than tobacco smoke and people don't throw the cigarette butts everywhere, or in smelly ashtrays. -
Thai Businesswoman Loses Over 40 Million Baht in Home Burglary

Kiwi Arrested for Illegal Use of Fireworks on Thai Beach
Xonax replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
The police should rather catch som of the many thai's driving around with modified exhaust systems on their motorbikes and cars. I live in what used to be a quiet village, but these days all the delivery bikes and trucks are polluting the area with noise. I don't understand why the delivery companies are allowing this, and how these often older vehicles can pass the annual inspections with modified exhaust systems. -
