  1. This IS a joke; right? not the Onion? ok...I just shopped a home IT system for a friend...the salespersons @ every single store I shopped told me (a frang, I) *Thais don't buy original Operating Systems*...still bought MW Windoze 7 for 25

00TBt...can't FIND original gaming CDs except at a tiney shop @ MBK, 3rd floor who says he can't compete w/100% pirated software affordable for 100Tbt/title...gimme a Brrrrrreaaaaaaaake. ;-} rap.

The biggest joke is that original are in Thailand far cheaper than in Europe.....

Maybe cheaper - But impossible to find !!!

  2. My bf used to date Thai girls, then we got together (hes farang - we met here in Thailand).

Ive had several offers (all nationalities) but havent actively sought out dates.

The guys are def out there.

But i do think quality guys arent easy to find here.

Lots of below average guys who we wouldnt be really interested in.

Same same as in Farangland. Lots of average (or below) single women, who are not the least interested in average (or below) single men, but only hoping to find the one and only "quality guy"!! By the way - what is a quality guy? Is it all about the sex-appeal, youth and money, as to me it seems, that us men with only inner beauty, never or rarely get a fair chance with Farang women.

I myself am now happily married to a Thai woman, who didn´t take me for the money, but sees my inner (and strangely also outer) beauty and loves me dearly. Back in Farangland, I was a single father, with a well above average salary, for years and years, not getting any serious interest from Farang women. I am an average (or below) man by the looks, low height, above average weight, less than average hair left, but have true inner beauty, which Farang women tend to not to be interested in.

Unfortunately I am by nature not a very outgoing type, so if a woman don´t return my smile, or simply ignore my prescence, I would never even think about giving it a try. The women I found interest from on a datingsite, were all dating several men already, so I backed out immediately, as I did not find it sincere, them expecting me to accept, to participate in some kind of Bachelorette competition.

  3. Why ignore the red flag; it seems tourist need an induction before being permitted to enter the beach. Another very sad experience for families holidaying in Thailand

At least Karon Beach has lifeguards, who know when and when NOT to put up the red flags. But many other beaches in Thailand without lifeguards, just let´s the red flags sit on the beach throughout the whole rainy season.

Last month in Khao Lak Beach, we saw the red flag at the resort every day. But one day the sea was much more calm, and we saw local children playing in the waves. We are experienced ocean-swimmers and as it looked quite safe, so we chose to ignore the red flag and take a small swim. Amazingly the security guard in the resort immediately changed the flag to yellow during our swin, and changed it back to red, as soon as we were out of the water again!

Many places in Thailand, the red flags unfortunately cannot always be taken seriously and that´s probably why, so many people sometimes decide to ignore the flags at the wrong time.

  4. Govt calling for discussions with all sides to find solution to political conflict

BANGKOK, 3 August 2013 (NNT) – The government is inviting all groups who have different views to discuss and exchange thoughts and ideas with an aim to find a solution to the political conflicts.

During the “PM Yingluck Meets the People” program, Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said she has assigned Deputy Prime Minister Phongthep Thepkanjana and PM's Office Minister Varathep Ratanakorn to invite around 50-100 related agencies to the Government House to exchange views as she wants to see participation from all sides in order to find an ultimate solution to the conflicts, which will lead to a political reform of the country. However, she said it will have to be conducted upon the country’s conditions and in a way acceptable to the international community.

The Premier said she wanted to see cooperation from all sides to get the country out of this predicament. She has affirmed that the upcoming forum is not for the government to buy more time, while urging everyone to open their minds and talk. She added that the forum is not meant for the government, but for the nation as a whole.

Lastly, she said the government will only summon all related agencies, while the chairman and the committee of the meeting will have to be decided by the participants.

"The government is inviting all groups who have different views to discuss and exchange thoughts and ideas with an aim to find a solution to the political conflicts"

Why not start with finding a solution, that is acceptable for both the government and the opposition???

  5. Living in Bangkok, I have never been overcharged in a Pharmacy. I always use the wholesale Pharmacies, which there is a few of in Bangkok. They are not marked as wholesale pharmacies, so you have to find the right one, where the prices usually are 30-35% cheaper. In Bangkok there is "South East Asia Pharmacy" on Sukhumvit Road near soi 15 and another one located in Sukhumvit soi On Nut, ringt in the middle between Sukhumvit road and Big C On nut (normally always very crowded). They happily sell both larger and smaller quantities and always at the same price as for Thai´s.

  6. The issue is not whether traffic is slow or not... it is simply that all traffic should drive in the leftist lane, unless to overtake other cars. Period. No "fast or slow" traffic and it is certainly illegal to hog the so called "fast lane". Although in some areas, the road on the leftmost lane is so badly damaged by trucks that it is almost undriveable.

That was my understanding too but even armed with a translated copy of these laws, the officer kept insisting this did not apply to bikes. I have so far not seen the traffic law stating bikes have to stay in the left.

However if this was not true why do all the Thais accept it as true. I pay as arguing with a guy with a gun is not that smart. I was certainly always keeping up with the rest of the traffic if not going faster.

It does gets on my nerves, not the fine but the fact that often you have to pay the fine somewhere else and get your drivers license. Time wasted is the problem.

In Thailand small and big bikes have the same laws as mopeds in your home country. The first time, I was stopped om my bike for not driving in the left lane (in BKK), I was fined with 500 Baht.

The second time I was lucky, as I managed to convince the engslish speaking BiB, that I had to use the next U-turn, which was not a lie.

  7. If you have a good security in your condominium, be happy that they don´t allow delivery guys to go up to your condo.

In my condo, they don´t even accept pizza or burger delivery to the door. You have to go down and meet with the delivery guy in the lobby.

  8. In Thailand money from corruption is almost equal to the GDP. Just arrest and proscecute the corrupt Politicians, Government officials, Police officers, Army officers and all other people, who have ever benefitted from corruption. They are all just a bunch of thieves and if they could be stopped and money and assets claimed back to the people of Thailand, who they have stolen the money from, there would be more than enough money for a proper pension and elderly care program!

Just start with the owners of all the vacant land in Thailand. Wherever you go, you see the big signs with land for sale for astronomous prices. Where did the owners get the money to buy the land from and did they purchase the land at market price, or just a symbolic amount paid to their fellow Politicians?

Photo just used as an expample, without neccessarily having been bought with money from corruption..

  9. Amusing how they always state the reason for this crackdown is because these "gangs" are making profit that Thais should get, Khun Xenophobe, reality is that the biggest mafia gangs on Phuket are the local Taxi & Tuk Tuk operators (gangs). Distracting everyone with this attack on foreigners and their businesses only highlights the governments lack of will to take on the Taxi and Tuk Tuk thugs of Phuket. If they ever strap on a pair and go after them they should add to the list, the BIke Rentals and Jet Ski Rentals gangs and their scams. If they are not tarnishing the image of Thailand then nothing is...sad.png

As you may know, the father of the current president of the "Phuket taxi/tuk-tuk" associating" happens to be an important politician on the island (i won't mention his name to avoid slander accusation, but you can find out). There is no way to step the corruption when the islands leaders have designed it.

No, but the local Phuket Mafia don´t like to have foreign competition.

What about getting rid of all Mafia´s on Phuket???

  10. Ive also started to use the second lane down Sukhumvit, simply to avoid getting cut off, having idiots on bikes tearing out from a side street, without looking and so forth.

In the middle lane? Are you suicidal? Driving in the middle lane is the most dangerous! You may be hit by a U-turner, or a bus or taxi suddenly stopping to load / unload passengers, or any vehicle (most often taxis and busses) suddenly changing lane, without checking first if the lane is free.

Why do Thai people always think, that it is ok to enter the BTS trains, before other people can get a chance to get out? Or continue to stand and block the doors, when the train has stopped at the station and opened the doors, so peoplee cannot either get in or out?

Why do Thai people always think, that it is ok to enter a lift / elevator, before people can get a chance to get out? Why do Thai people always think, that it is ok to step into the lift / elevator going down, just to be sure, that there are a space for them for them, when the lift / elevator goes up again (or the other way round)?? I often see Thai people going from fx 2nd floor to groundfloor or basement first, when they actually need to go to 3rd or 4th floor. Doing this will just make the lift / elevator more congested than necessary. Mentioning this to my wife, she just says, that this i normal in Thailand!!!

  11. Books is the only item I have been able to buy from Amazon. Never been charged any import duty or tax on books. Most other items I have tried to order, was not available for delivery to Thailand, so have completely given up to buy from Amazon. Orders with a value below THB 1000 will nor be charged duty or tax. Other items can be charged up to 40% duty and 7% VAT. These days most books are available as eBooks downloadable to your Kindle reader or your iPad via the Kindle App. Money to be saved on eBooks - only not enough, as you are not allowed to resell or donate. And burning after reading is also impossible.

Pleanty of stuff (other than books) available from Ebay or Aliexpress. Apple´s iTunes has disappointingly never offered delivery to Thailand of neither music, movies or ebooks, so in this way they are kinda forcing us to buy the illegal copies, which (probably for the same reason) still are available everywhere in Thailand. I wouldn´t buy any illegal copies here, if I could just download from iTunes.

  12. As far as I know, all rice is contaminated with small rice-beetles. They can remove the beetles before packing, but there will still be eggs from the beetles in the rice. If no contaminating treatment, some of these eggs will soon be new little rice-beetles. This is the exact reason why organic rice has an expiry date only 2 months after packing, while normal rice will not expire at least within the first 12 months, which in my terminology must mean, that they would have to use some kind of chemical to destroy the beetle-eggs.
