  1. Sacs, next to House & Home, do a good breakfast, wonderful toast, but apparently closed this week whilst stocking up on supplies & new staff.

Yeah, I go past early and they are never open.

I used to like the french couple who ran it before but haven't tried it with the new English people running it, I hope the quality is the same or better..

Do they open at 10am or something?

I think they open at 8 but not sure although I understand closed this week. If I go it would normally be late morning, early afternoon. I feel the quality is pretty good all round both savoury & sweet products (especially the apple slice with cream). Breakfast has good bacon & I like the sausages buy early last week he was worried about getting the same supplies.

    Supplies are the problem.

Even boathouse breakfast has resorted to the little 7/11 style sausages due to the shortages and I hate those little soldiers of hoofs and snouts.

    English muffins are also lacking.

  2. crap ....bar talk mate ...

I know of a English guy that killed a family of 3 whilst drunk and on holiday. 4 hours and 1.2 million baht later, all was forgotten and he rented another car from the same rental company.

Money is god here, not the laws.

Bar talk? please educate me on this phenomenon

Please come back with better retorts than penis size or bar talk but I think your lack of education is evident to even conjure a decent argument.

Is it too early and the bars ain't open yet?

  4. I love keyboard heroes.

Disrespecting a Police orders, volunteer or paid police, is serious even in TH. Running one off the road, well I think you know what will happen, and you r on camera B)

Automated traffic cameras issuing tickets are budgeted for Changwat Phuket in 2014. They photo, send to central computer, issue ticket by post to registered owner, if fine not paid, annual tax and registration is denied. Just as its been in BKK for a few years. At the same time plate law fine was increased to 50.000 baht and/or 5 years in jail

Like it or not, I do not, its coming

With all due respect, volunteers have no powers here and there is no way I would stop for a western police volunteer. Never.

I'll take my chances of fleeing the checkpoints and pay whatever tea money captain somboon thinks will give him a good night of whiskey and karaoke.

  5. It's just forum chat, people post bravado because they don't want to appear as being a lesser man(up to them, personally I prefer to tell it how it actually is(up to me, :D we have all had a drink then driven but most of us at some point realize that is is some thing that needs to be avoided...

Yes Kenny, you worked me out in no time whatsoever.

Drink driving in Phuket is a way of life, it ain't going anywhere whilst law enforcement is like it is.

I do it, my friends do it.

Anyone who says they don't is either a liar or they don't drink.

  6. @ Peter

Its a great educational tool for teaching novices on bikes to keep left and out of the middle of the lane doing 30kph.

Maybe Thailand should be a little more stringent on rental companies that are renting bikes to people who don't hold a licence and in some cases, never ridden a bike before.

Are these people insured if they hit my car? no....

So it's my hobby to give a crash course (no pun intended) in keeping left.

Just doing my part for Phuket.

  8. Sabai Sabai, Tajna road, Kata

Fantastic food, they have left the 99 baht curries promotion and moved slightly up in price and larger servings. Best Nan in Phuket.

Restaurant is not that great, but food is :P

I must admit, I was a little terrified to try it judging by the looks of the place but the food is quite good.

    Butter chicken is perfect.

  9. I don't think it is moaning people just want cheaper beer can't see any thing wrong in that!! and yes beer in London will be way more expensive than it is here, personally I choose not to pay 100 bht for a small beer when I can get 2 big beers for 94 bht at my little local!!!

Try drinking somewhere with a little atmosphere and view and the price of the beer is soon forgotten.

If you like drinking 50 baht beers in some mosquito ridden bar with a yong yong toilet on the back streets of Rawai, so be it but i'd expect the beer to be free if I had to endure that experience.

Some people leave their pride back home once they settle for the Boonlert lifestyle in Phuket.

  10. The best thing that could happen here is police on powerful motorbikes pulling over the idiots who find it funny to weave in and out of traffic at speed causing all to worry what might happen in the next few minutes!!!

I'll just throw a couple of thousand baht notes out the window....guarantee the jacks wont be chasing the car.

If people want to drive like muppets I will do my best to get around them...if Somchai decides to start selling hot dogs in the middle of the intersection I wont be slowing down for him. And if Yohan and Inga from Sweden have a case of the wobbles because its the first time on a scooter...I will speed up and blow the horn, and if any falang goose on a powerful motorbike attempt to pull me over, they will be run off the road. I will pay the bribe at a time convenient to me.

I havent had a sober accident in ages and i dont intend to anytime soon...take note "do-gooders" ..I will be at the front of the pack

Wow this is some post!! I sincerely hope this is just bravado and not some thing he actually puts in to practice!!!!

Its practiced alright, my favorite is speeding past tourists wobbling on their bike for the first time and seeing if they crash from the fright of a speeding car just missing the handlebars.

They soon learn to keep left and not coast in the middle of the lane.

  11. Went to M&M's day before last.

The food has gone waaaaaay downhill but the apologists will come on here and tell me the food shortages have hampered the usual ingredients.

Bleh, it was bad and won't return due to the embarrassment I felt telling my friends to try it after me raving about it.

  12. Shortages and profiteering has nothing to do with the usual cost of living rises.

I keep hearing about hoarding and profiteering but I'm yet to see it myself, beer is the usual price at the places I frequent.

The days of 50 baht beers are dying, deal with it or buy a box and drink at home.

Can't believe people moaning about beer prices here, even at a 100 baht a beer is half the price of a beer in Sydney or London.

  13. Simple maths...if the suppliers are charging 1000 baht a case then that costs the bar 42 Baht. Not really much point openeing the doors for a profit of 8 baht a bottle (without factoring in wages, electricity, rent and the rest)

Looks like the 50 baht beers are a thing of the past...the OP might have to increase his budget slightly

Thread should end with snamos's post above.

Cost of living rises every year, deal with it.

  14. You get what you pay for.

Phunaka is cheap because its a sub standard 9 hole swamp.

I know its ok for just a bunch of hackers chopping up the course but anyone who takes the game seriously won't play there.

Haven't we done this thread before or am I having a case of dejavu?
