  1. If the establishment wants you in, you're in, and if the establishment wants you out, you're out. Guilt is not the primary metric in these issues. Do the establishment's bidding and enjoy a life of impunity like Jimmy Saville. Speak against the establishment and it will endeavour to destroy you.
  2. This needs to be repeated over and over. Lack of awareness is the core issue and an impact even at very low speed can destroy your life.
  3. I definitely agree with you on the substance, I sometimes am shocked by the lack of compassion/awareness displayed on this forum. However, when a person dies in a motorbike accident and was not wearing a helmet, I believe it is perfectly valid to point it out and stress just how utterly stupid it is to do that… because it is, and who knows, it might encourage people to change their habits and potentially save their lives.
  4. Agree, people just don't realise what will happen to their head in case of an impact, even at low speed.
  5. Proper motorcycle training + defensive driving + certified full-face helmet = small chance of having a serious accident, even in Thailand.
  6. Being French, it's possible that he forgot to look left. His brain went into automatic mode, he casually glanced to the right, saw the empty road and crossed. It happens more easily than one would think.
  7. Good points. Personally, I have never been in this situation of having to foot the bill without having consented to it beforehand. Contrary to what I have often read on this forum, freeloading is not, in my experience, something Thais will typically do and they will more often have a tendency to be "greng jai", i.e. feel embarrassed/awkward in the situation the OP described. But this woman's attitude definitely was out of order and I understand where the OP is coming from (though I have long stopped being confrontational in Thailand myself – In my opinion, there are more effective ways to deal with such situations privately, with no loss of face involved for anyone).
  8. She got the "It's OK, have farang pay" boomerang right back in her face, nicely done.
  9. The unvaxxed are still doing fine. "No vaxx, no help". So no vaxx, no requirement to pay taxes, then? Let's try to be coherent for a few seconds. Keep your money and take care of yourself. I'm in.
  10. It's pretty clear, isn't it? The Thai authorities are telling you to drop it and keep your money. Of course, if you keep insisting on paying, eventually you will find someone who will be willing to take your money from you, but why do such a thing?
  11. You're so hi-so, I'm jealous
  12. Yes, slight correction to my post: they also do it with foreigners who speak Thai, so it doesn't necessarily indicate one doesn't speak Thai well.
  13. It's just a habit they have with non-Thai speakers and with children, there isn't any explanation other than that, at least not to my knowledge. Don't overthink it :)
  14. It's to teach us how to say it, they do it with kids too.
  15. Indeed, mother nature has everything covered and the notion that we were born incomplete (and that "science" is here to complete us) is perhaps the most clever and profitable fallacy of all time.
  16. Vaccination is a multi-billion dollar business and therefore subjected to rule number one, which is to create and maintain demand.
  17. Under the new multilateral paradigm, Trump has cooperative counterparts everywhere not shown on the below map.
  18. Yet another Trump [censored] Syndrome thread.
  19. 15,000 baht is a reasonable price, what are you complaining about?
  20. The above rant (which could have been written by a teenager) is pretty telling. The media really have screwed up people's minds…
  21. The syndrome is very real, and these people need help.
  22. Looks great! Less protein and more carbs are a symptom of poverty. In Europe, the youth are massively quitting meat, for all sorts of "good" resaons, when the truth is they simply can't afford it.
