Early today I logged on and had an Avatar, a nice photo of my son.
A couple of hours later I came back and I no longer have one...
Tried to reload it but couldn't, can someone tell me what has happened.

I applied for a Turkish Visa for my Thai wife and her niece.
No problems at all as we had a dated ticket which the Turkish Consul insisted on.
I even applied prior to having thier British Visas but they didn't seem to mind and issued the visas in 24 hours.

OK, open a can of worms and...
The US was in the European war arena way before Pearl Harbour.
Not true Jet.....
Pearl Harbor was bombed on Sunday, December 7th, 1941, a "date that will live in infamy," as US president Franklin Delano Roosevelt called it.
On day later, Roosevelt went before Congress to ask for a formal declaration of war. The vote was unanimous except for a lone holdout. World War 2 for the US officially began on December 8th. On December 11th, 1941, Germany and Italy both declared war on the United States.

A date I shall not forget as it was the first aniversary of my business starting up.
My first thoughts too were of WW3......

Hi All,
I'm just about to book some flights for my Girlfriend to fly from Hong Kong to Bangkok (I'll flying out from UK to meet in BK)
..Anyway was reading the terms on Thaiair and it said thaT
Is this another of those add the final word threads.....
I am pretty certain that when using a credit card online with an airline the cardholder has to be one of the passengers and that the credit card used must be shown at the airport check-in.
Hope I guessed your query corretly.

I have been following both this thread and the thread on the retirement visa extension, and there seems to be a common point that people are making about what is happening when they apply for their annual visa extensions. Can someone please verify for me that, in fact, the Royal Thai Police Order 606/2549 is still in effect, it has not been changed, and there is no other written document anywhere else that idenifies other criteria that an alien must satisfy before being allowed to stay in the Kingdom? Can I assume that each individual immigration office or officer does not have the power to arbituary change any of these provisions or criteria to suit themselves? And do I have any recourse if I disagree with something they tell me I must do, or some paper they tell me I must provide?
It is not a case of whether they have the power or not. It is down to personal interpretation of the rules.

Maybe worth adding Samui to the poll.
And Nakhon Ratchasima, aka Korat....
korat is part of northeast.... samui is south.
And Bangkok is Central and Chang Mai is North.....
Your point is???

Maybe worth adding Samui to the poll.
And Nakhon Ratchasima, aka Korat....

another curiosity. how does one travel with different passports, if one uses both passports. say one decides to use the US passports around the world, but use the thai passport only in bangkok. the arrival and departure stamps would not match.
also i thought one is not supposed to carry to passports together - should carry just one - either one. i am asking this because some people recommending doing it this way.
You have to travel with both passports, as if you going to the US your Thai passport will not have a US Visa.
Obviously no airline is going to allow you to board a plane without the necessary visa.
On the 3 ocassions I have taken my young son to the UK both Thai and British Immigration have wanted to see both of his passports.
I too was told many times, leave and enter Thailand with his Thai passport and enter and leave the UK with his British passport. I was told never to show both passports either to an airline or immigration.
This advice does not work in practice.....

I'd suggest Khorat. Big city excitement without the Bkk traffic. Great nightlife and still easy to get back to Bkk. One place I would go for great live music is in western Khorat called Blue um, Blue Cafe, or Blue something. Sorry I can't remember exactly, but Khorat is a fun town.
dave
Yes it is and it does have great nightlife whatever your taste may be.....

But right now the minimum you need to bring in a year for a Marriage visa is 400,000 Baht, in a lump sum and you have to leave it in the bank for 3 months prior to your application.
Actually, this is incorrect. You can no longer extend the O visa based on marriage by using BT400,000 in the bank. It now has to be a combined earnings of BT40,000 per month.
This doesn't affect those who had previously extended using the bt400,000, they have been "grandfathered"
totster
Quite right Totster.....
I should have pointed out that this option was no longer available.
OK, for a Retirement Visa you need, at todays rates, either 800,000 Baht in the bank or proof of income of 65k a month.
The OP would not meet income requirements and with his savings would find it hard to bring in the required amount for the Bank Deposit over a period of a few years.
That is at todays rates and his income and capital projections are based on 10-15 years hence.....

As previously said this subject has been done to death.....
You know Thailand so you know what things cost here.
If you want a basic lifestyle I am sure th 20-40k you have available will be enough.
However things like Health Insurance do not come cheap......
Who knows what the visa requirements will be in 10-15 months let alone years.
But right now the minimum you need to bring in a year for a Marriage visa is 400,000 Baht, in a lump sum and you have to leave it in the bank for 3 months prior to your application.
I like Nomad97 need 100k plus a month to live the lifestyle I want. If I was happy to stay in the village 24/7 then probably 35-40k would suffice....

I have to agree they played remarkably well. It was only in the last 10 minutes that the Aussies took control.
As for making the World Cup Finals that may still be a long long way off.

As for money the Government gives families 20000 bht a year but they have to pay it back then they take it again, there life seems to revolve around debt, this applies to a lot but not all.
I am pretty sure that one of the first things the Military Government did was to revoke this practice.
I know for sure that a month or so after the coup the locals were running around like "Blue Ass'd Flies" desperately trying to get the money to pay back the loans.
I agree with farangconnection thet May and June were very good months for rainfall. So good in fact that in some parts were I live (40kms North of Korat) they are still waiting to plant rice. There is just too much water in the fields.
Many of the young from our village work in BKK and others have been lucky enough to get jobs in the Electronics factories around Korat.
Not sure about any girls working in Pattaya but I do sometimes run into one or two on my rare visits to the Karaoke bars in Korat........
I have just asked my wife about this and she tells me that the loan procedure is still in force....... Each household is allowed up to 30000 bht they dont have to drawer it all it can be in stages or if they a only want a percentage this is okay
OK thanks macb I stand corrected.
However I am sure that here the locals had to repay the loan soon after the coup.
Perhaps the Junta, oops CNS made their own version of this loan available soon after.

And you have done this 60 day extension how many times? There is no automatic provision for a 60 day extension because you are married but there is a new provision since October that allows a one time 60 day extension. Korat must be very liberal and interpret this as one time per entry if indeed they allow more than once. I am not sure others will do so.7.23 In case of entering for
visiting a Thai wife /
husband or child.
The permission shall be
granted only one time with
the granted period not
exceeding 60 days.
It can only be a local Korat peculiarity Lop.
Yes Dr PP Korat Immigration is indeed peculiar....
I applied there to change from an extension based on Marriage to an extension based on Support FROM a Thai child. My son was two and a half when I applied.
They did issue the 1 year extension but the Officer in Charge there told me very clearly that I could only have this type of visa until my son was 18 and after that I would have to change back to an extension based on Marriage.
They wrote in Thai above the extension that it is for Support OF a Thai child.
This was in March this year when the extension based on Support OF a Thai child no longer existed.......

Yesterday I withdrew 20,000 Baht from an ATM using a Nationwide (UK) card.
It cost me 289.34 Pounds which coverts to a rate of 69.12 Baht
This is the best rate I have got for many months!!!
So certainly the Thai Baht is not at its Strongest Level In Decade against the British Pound......
XE.com show an exchange rate of 64.02 Baht to the Pound, which I assume is the offshore rate, a difference of approx. 8%.....

Sorry mate, too short notice really to be certain.
Yes sorry for the short notice........
But I hope you and Yorkie can still make it.....

At the moment it is taking me a 14 hour round trip in a minibus to do my visa runs.
Korat airport has been shut for 2 years now.
Has anyone any ideas or suggestions as to make these runs quicker and more pleasureable.
Thanks POMPOOEYMAN
There is a border post near Surin, sorry can't remeber the name.
It is not used much so you will get a quick turnaround.
Not sure about transport to get there.
Those that I know have used it have gone in their own cars.

When I got my extension under 7.17.5 in Korat they also asked to see proof of money in the bank.
I don't think that Phuket is unique in making its own rules. I think that every office uses the clause, At the discretion of the officer in charge
I believe that this extension is not based on "to support" or "be supported by" the child, but to LIVE with the child.
