Hua Hin Airport to Become International Hub by 2025
spidermike007 replied to webfact's topic in Hua Hin and Cha-Am News
I seriously doubt that this will ever happen in our lifetimes, they have been talking about expanding the Hua Hin airport for decades now, they used to have an excuse, they don't anymore. There should be 30 to 40 flights a day in and out of that airport from areas within the region and regional international flights. There is absolutely no excuse for the sloth that's currently being exhibited by the authorities in relation to this airport. It is a shame, it is an abomination, and it is completely ridiculous considering the amount of congestion on the highways. -
Village Chief Defends Burning Practices Amid Air Pollution Crisis
spidermike007 replied to webfact's topic in Chiang Mai News
Village chief Nanthawat Tiengtrongsakun and his community are real problem people. They care not one iota for their neighbors nor the nation. This is an ancient practice, and in order to improve the quality of life on a planet populated by over 8 billion souls, people have to be willing to adapt. This creep is not even willing to consider the possibility of progress or evolution, and he is directly responsible for lower air quality in the region -
Thailand's Tourism Faces 'Zero-Dollar' Tour Crisis
spidermike007 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
This is not necessarily a problem that just began to plague Thailand recently, this has been going on for a decade or longer. The quality of tourists attracted to Thailand have been dropping significantly, and now Thailand only seems to be able to attract relatively low end tourists from Malaysia, China, India, the Arab world, and Russia. There are many reasons for this but the authorities are unwilling to discuss any of them, nor address any of the problems that affected the nation long before covid.- 105 replies

Indian tourist's holiday horror: Robbed, assaulted in Pattaya
spidermike007 replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
Is it me or does it seem like a disproportionate number of crimes that happen in Thailand, seem to happen in Pattaya? And the same seems to apply to crimes committed against tourists. It's terrible to be subjected to something like this, but the crime rates against foreigners committed in Thailand are still very, very low. However each and every crime seems to attract a lot of attention -
Thaksin Released on Bail Amid Long-Running Lese Majeste Case

Since it is likely that all the details of his return were pre-arranged and negotiated, prior to him surrendering his party to the highly corrupt army, this is likely just another act in the drama. -
Big Joke Pushes for Impeachment of Anti-Corruption Commissioner
spidermike007 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Although it's safe to say that the anti-corruption commissioner is likely extremely corrupt, in a land where corruption is the norm, I have always assumed that the big joke is extremely corrupt too, having headed immigration and then been deputy director of the RTP. However, the joke sure puts on a good show. -
Thailand Passes Landmark Same-Sex Marriage Law
spidermike007 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
This is a fantastic result for an Administration that's not known for being particularly progressive. Good on them for having the vision to pass this legislation. Love Is love It doesn't matter how it looks or what form it takes. -
You are likely wrong again. They likely did not steal land from each other, as they never owned it to begin with. That was a bizarre concept for Natives. To Native Americans, the Earth is one's relative, requiring respect and care, as are all the animals and plant life the land supports. The definition of one's 'relatives' encompasses all living things, not just the members of one's family, and so, just as one would not claim to 'own' a relative, one cannot own the land; one can only act as a steward in caring for it. The European settlers' understanding of the land was quite different. In the European view, the Earth and everything upon it essentially existed for the benefit of human beings, and so, of course, one could claim ownership of it in the course of subduing, taming, and reaping the benefits of that land. When the Europeans began interacting with the Native Americans, these differing views led to significant conflict, but the Europeans, operating in accordance with the concept expressed by the policy of the Doctrine of Discovery (established by the Catholic Church in 1493 to Christianize the natives of newly 'discovered' lands), claimed that non-Christians could not own land and felt free to take whatever lands were 'discovered' pursuant to the will of God as expressed in Genesis 1:28.

Biden and Trump Agree to CNN Debate Rules, Including Mic Muting
spidermike007 replied to Social Media's topic in World News
The US should have both term limits and age limits. Once you hit 70, you are out as a candidate of any national office. And two terms for congress or the senate. It would be a game changer. -
Biden and Trump Agree to CNN Debate Rules, Including Mic Muting

Very typical of a Trump devotee to engage in name calling. We always have a choice. Clvility or low class dishonor. Your Master always chooses the latter. -
Biden and Trump Agree to CNN Debate Rules, Including Mic Muting
spidermike007 replied to Social Media's topic in World News
The mic muting is going to put Trump way outside of his game, and it's going to eliminate his most popular tactic which is interruption and showing tremendous lack of respect for his opponent. This is a very clever tactic and one which I think will level the playing field. Trump is going to lose this debate hands down, he doesn't have any policy, he's not intelligent, and he his semi-senility is causing a tremendous amount of rambling these days, which is totally incoherent. -
Toddler's Vaping Sparks Outrage in Saraburi
spidermike007 replied to webfact's topic in Central Thailand News
The art of parenting seems to be a lost art in this day and age. I'm noticing this not just in Thailand, but this seems to be a worldwide phenomena. This kind of thing is both reckless and insane. Lock up Mom. -
Canadian Tourist Robbed During Night in Pattaya Hotel
spidermike007 replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
He did not demonstrate the most basic of survival skills. Anytime you bring a stranger to your room much less fall asleep with them in your presence, you have every valuable locked up under key, either in a safe or at a minimum in a piece of luggage with a secure lock on it. Otherwise you are just inviting temptation and you are proving Darwin's theories once again, you are not fit for survival. -
Well, if you ignore history, then your argument may hold true. But, for those of us who are students of history, there is a good reason why Native Americans are called Indians. It does not matter if the area was called America or not, centuries ago. Even my Mexican friends argue that the term America is not valid, since they live in North America, and are also therefore "American". The natives lived there since the Clovis people crossed over the land bridge, some 12,000 to 20,000 years ago, depending on which version of history you believe in. A couple of years ago, Becerra-Valdivia and colleagues developed a model that integrated data from 42 different archeological sites in North America and Beringia with emerging evidence from ancient DNA, and found support for the idea that people were indeed in the Americas 26,500–19,000 years ago. https://www.the-scientist.com/new-evidence-complicates-the-story-of-the-peopling-of-the-americas-69928#:~:text=For decades%2C scientists subscribed to,recede%2C about 13%2C000 years ago The term Indian is an import from European languages, originating in North America in the 15th century. It is commonly understood that when Christopher Columbus set off west from Europe, he was attempting to land in India, on the Asian continent. Consequently, when Columbus landed in the Caribbean, he assumed it was “…Islands of India beyond the Ganges”. Hence, Columbus and the Portuguese colonists called the indigenous inhabitants “indeos” – the Portuguese for what we call in English “Indians.” It was the term that was to remain in use in western culture to the present.
