  1. I can think of at least two dozen reasons to keep that man away from the reins of government. He did enough damage during his prior administration. I could not even imagine the amount of damage he could do if given a second chance. It would embolden him to no end. I'm not crazy about Biden and I don't like the idea of a president in his early 80s, but Trump is semi senile also and way too old for the office, in addition to being way too dangerous and completely out of control.
  2. Is there something intrinsically proprietary about elephants in Thailand? Do Thais have the right of representation of elephants on clothing, on an exclusive basis, or is this just simply an inability to deal with highly competitive pricing? Something smells a little bit odd and fishy about this story.
  3. It mentions the total value of all condo transactions and it also mentions that Chinese were responsible for 50% of them. I wonder what the average buy price was for the typical Chinese buyer, relative to the Thai and foreign buyers who are sometimes spending 10 to 50 million baht for a luxury condo, in a top building, on a high floor. Also I would hardly call those numbers a surge, when they are fairly similar to last year.
  4. When I renewed my driver's license a few years ago they asked me if I wanted a real ID, or a normal driver's license. I opted for the real ID, I believe there was an additional fee involved but I guess it was worth it. Likely just a another aspect of the police state in America.
  5. I do not think much of the criticism is against jews, but rather Israeli foreign policy, and the Gaza genocide. I am an American jew, and I am highly critical of the disproportionate nature of this response, and the thousands of women and children who are being slaughtered by the IDF. But, I have been critical of Israeli policy for decades now, and it does not make me popular amongst many of my jewish friends. I tend to keep my mouth shut around them. Most of the time.
  6. You are right. Pretty sure the ones in Florida, near housing developments are smaller alligators.
  7. That can be a very healthy option. I have a great, long term relationship. But if I were ever single again, I would stay that way.
  8. Samui is a very dangerous place, if driving a scooter. If riding a motorbike, only do so if you have many years of experience. Especially on the southern islands, where huge numbers of foreigners leave Thailand in a wooden box. Wear the best helmet you can afford. And drive like a grandmother. This applies to ex-pats too. Bring along an international drivers license. This helps you to avoid being fleeced by the local police franchisee. Many of us drive motorcycles or scooters here, and it is dangerous getting on the roads with some of these other drivers. Getting on a scooter, or a motorcycle anywhere in Thailand, much less Phuket, Phangan, Dark Tao, or Samui without a very good helmet, is like playing Russian Roulette with three or four bullets in the chamber. It is absolutely asking for problems. The degree of recklessness here is astounding. And many foreigners come here thinking "how much trouble could I get in on a little scooter, on a tropical island"? Well, the answer is alot. The amount of foreigners who are killed on the Southern islands is staggering. Most are not reported in the media. I had a friend who worked for Samui rescue for many years, and said the numbers were about 30-60 a month, on Samui, Phangan and Koh Tao. The official number is about 3 a month. Rider beware. Use as good a helmet as you can afford, and do not use these eggshells pieces of crap. They crack at the first impact, and what lies underneath them? Your skull, which is very delicate. I have been riding bikes for 49 years. Without any serious accidents. A few minor ones over the years. Riding a bike here is very dangerous. If not the highest, one of the highest fatality rates in the world. And an accident here can be very costly, to your person. Just ask yourself- do I have enough problems already, without a broken skull, or smashed head, or face injury, or lost eye? I have three friends who have been in motorbike accidents on Samui within the last several years. One still cannot walk, or talk or function on her own, from a motorbike accident, where she hit her head on the pavement going only 20 kph. The other one has lost alot of his mental capacity after hitting his head. He insisted for years he would never wear a helmet. Now, he seems 15 years older. The third one is a close friend, who was hit by a sidecar, and nearly lost his leg. 11 operations later, he can walk, but with a limp, and the leg caused him constant problems, many years later. I was told by a very reliable source, who worked for Samui rescue for years. He did not have an agenda. He rescued alot of the survivors. He attended to alot of the ones who did not make it. The press here is highly censored. The report only what the so called leaders want them to report. Nothing else. Social media? Why would social media report these statistics? They report individual accidents, but not overall statistics. Anything you read about accidents on Samui in the media would be false. • Road deaths are now calculated based on fatalities on-site. Victims dying later in hospital not counted. • In 2000 there was an average of 30 deaths a month on Koh Samui (official figures released each month). • Now it is stated that Koh Samui has 3-5 deaths each month (using the new way of reporting road deaths). • In the last ten years the population has almost doubled and there are now 5x more vehicles on Koh Samui. • Based on ‘official figures’ today it is possible to estimate that Koh Samui currently has 60 deaths per million per year. (Compared to 23 in London.) Based on the population and traffic density statistics from 10 years ago Koh Samui has in reality 720 deaths per million per year. This is probably the highest rate of road deaths in the world. Samui is a fatality death spot that nobody is willing to acknowledge!
  9. His election was a truly great thing for this nation and shows that the people are both sick of being led by highly ignorant dinosaurs, with no interest in progress, and interested in smart, young folks, who are serious, accomplished, capable of change, and interested in insuring that Thailand has a good future. Pita is exactly what this nation needs, at this point in time. Too bad the toxic monsters stopped him in his tracks. This is a man who interrupted his studies at MIT, during an MBA program at Sloan to rescue his father's rice bran oil business, Agrifood, after this fathers death. He was successful, and is paying down the 100 million baht his father borrowed to start the company. This is a serious man. Very unlike the failures before him. He then went back and finished his MBA, at one of the top business schools on the planet. If it hadn't been the shares it would have been something else, they simply wanted him out of the way, he was too clean, too progressive, too forward leaning, too intelligent, and too capable of moving the nation forward away from the morass of corruption and moral rot, so the shares were just an excuse. From what I understand the company was already suspended and he really had no way of getting rid of the shares. This guy's just too smart to have committed a mistake like that. It was all about the status quo, the army maintaining a hand in the pot, and deeply foul and corrupt men in the background pulling strings. This is about money grubbing lowlifes, trying to use their illegitimate positions, to deny the will of the people, steal an election, move the nation backwards, and deny any kind of change or reform. This is a toxic power grab. Those who stole the election, and the foul, corrupt, proxy senators deserve a lifetime of pain and suffering. One can only hope the people will be bold enough to inflict that upon them.
  10. Oh please. Such fake purity. It is a concert. Grow up. People have been smoking at concerts since the 1950's. These ninnies really need to get a life.
  11. Always great to have a nepotistic son of a long term despot, who was a land grabbing billionaire, a serial killer of his political opponents, and a genocidal officer in the Khmer Rouge regime. Such an illustrious background he comes from. Will the stealing continue? Instead of devoting his time as prime minister to equitably improving the health, education, and standard of living of the Cambodian people, Hun Sen has been linked to a wide range of serious human rights violations: extrajudicial killings, torture, arbitrary arrests, summary trials, censorship, bans on assembly and association, and a national network of spies and informers intended to frighten and intimidate the public into submission. https://www.hrw.org/report/2015/01/12/30-years-hun-sen/violence-repression-and-corruption-cambodia
  12. Nothing to worry about. This is very common in Florida. They typically stay to themselves. An over reaction, for sure.
  13. That is the new name for Sretta. A native name. Talks alot, does nothing.
  14. How does that explain why Russians are so grumpy? Are they open and friendly towards you?
  15. It is a very mysterious thing when a person who plunged to her death tells the tale of the accident later, and turns up alive. Perhaps it was some sort of miracle, a Divine intervention, or a second coming? Is she a saint? Is she a cat with 9 lives? We can always depend of the Thaiger for clear, concise journalism!
  16. Many new drivers licenses are Real ID, and I am fairly certain the passport card are also.
  17. 1. Carlson is NOT a journalist. Never has been, never will be. He is a political commentator. 2. I hope he stays there. He would be doing the world a favor. 3. Maybe, just maybe he will say the wrong thing, and find out the true meaning of a dictatorship.
  18. I always wonder what the level of inspections are like here, and if there is much emphasis put on safety, at all.
  19. The Click is one of the worst. And it is made for smaller people. It has a very stiff and low end suspension. I would suggest a Honda ADV160, or even better a Honda Forza 350. I have the latter. It is a very smooth ride. You might need to step up a bit.
  20. My respect for them is fairly limited too. One likes to see some sort of example. Show me, do not tell me. Same applies for priests and rabbis too, and especially Imams.
  21. Some comments are barely worth the bother. Like yours. Let's just go ahead and lump the entire ex-pat community into one thoughtless, mindless, inane, hateful comment. So, that is who you are? Singapore is boring and crazy expensive. So is Monaco. Both are also very vanilla. Argentina is not a bad choice, and so is Portugal. For those with real money. Many of us here have limited budgets, and live very well here. Many of us here are not whore mongers. But, you would not understand such complex issues.
  22. Correct. Thais count the number of years they have been alive, instead of their upcoming birthday. Hence 17 means 18. Always best to ask for a real ID, if in doubt. Even better to pass, if it is that close!
  23. The US does issue a passport card, for an extra $10. Very convenient to have, as it serves nearly all ID purposes.
  24. There are many ways in this world to make merit, showing great love and respect to other people, being generous with people who deserve your generosity, extending yourself whenever possible, being a very decent human being, paying honor to our elders, and helping homeless people from time to time. The list is endless if one wants to do good in this world there is no end to how much we can help others, if we're in a position to do so. The least effective way in this world to make merit is to donate your money to a temple. That is just sloth and laziness, in my opinion.
  25. Her father was making an effort to redefine the word lowlife, and he did a pretty damn good job of that. Somebody should give that so called man a beat down.
