So you need several external hard drives just to be safe? Yeah right.

If 500GB meets your needs, use the cloud as an alternative backup location.

One Drive/DropBox/Google Drive/Box/Sync.com, etc. To name but a few.

And don't believe the hype that they are unsafe; if that were the case all web based email, Office 365, etc would fall into this category as well. These sort of backups (cloud) have saved my a$$ more times than I should be admitting.

Never forget, if your data is only in one place then it is not backed up. Huge oversight when using external drives as a storage and not a backup.

The four guys who visited there tested negative after the visit, so no need to trace anyone?

I'm probably thinking too far into it, but the results of testing (Thai side) would be a point of concern regardless of outcome. Basing this on the 23 Burmese testing negative Thai side but positive on the Burmese side.

The very fact that these people were exempt from quarantine (14 days) through one of the 11 categories stated but could still mingle with the locals shows huge holes in their procedures. Besides, tracking and testing would be a good exercise for them prior to opening up to tourism.

    Just my thoughts.

The infected soldier was among 27 of one group who visited Laem Thong department store from 11am to 2.59pm. The other four meanwhile took a taxi to Rayong Central Plaza, entering the plaza at 2pm and exiting at 6pm.

The Thai Chana platform has now alerted 392 of 394 people who visited the Laem Thong department store at the time the infected Egyptian soldier was there. The remaining two could not be contacted because they provided wrong phone numbers or deliberately gave fake numbers.

So, that is great news that the Thai Chana is so successful at Laem Thong (and that only two people out of 394 had not mastered the app).

How many people were alerted at Central Plaza who were there during the four hour period when the remaining 4 members of the group were there? In fact, roughly how many people would be at the Plaza during that time scale?

Maybe it's just me but when I see/hear a breakdown report that omits pretty important information relevant to what has happened, it makes me think.......................................

And still they haven't (again omitted) the details of who (military/governmental side) was delegated to liaise with them throughout their stay.

    Update.

I did a fresh install of the latest Windows 10 Build No. 2004.  Had a few driver issues, but got that sorted.  Straight away I noticed the machine was faster, having cleaned out all the rubbish.  No notable difference to me between Build 2004 and Build 1909.

My new Samsung SSD arrived.  I bought a TLC SSD, mainly for extra longevity.  I cloned the HDD to the SSD and then unplugged the HDD from it's SATA port and plugged in the SSD into the same SATA port.  the HDD now sit dormant in the case.

I bought an adapter for the SSD.  I screwed the SDD onto the adapter, but could only get 2 screws into the adapter to hold it to the case, but the SSD's are so lite that 2 screws should be fine for the rare occasion I have to transport the case.

As expected, start up time is a lot quicker, and the machine is faster.   I will look at getting SSD's for my laptops now.  I just have to check if they will take the same SSD's, or the other style, I think it's the M2 plug.

Back to Windows 10.  My frustrations continue.  There were some minor issues I could fix, but the latest issue is I can not run .exe files after the fresh install, which many program installers use.  I have tried the "%1"%*" registry fix but still can not get it to work.  Next is to disable Firewall and AV, even pull out the ethernet cable.  Any tips on this would be appreciated.   In all previous version of Windows I have never come across this problem.

Is Windows 10 Build 2004 progress, or regress?  The owner of an Operating System should not have to tweak the registry to get such a simply thing working.

What software did you use to clone your HDD to SSD? If the clone completed correctly and you can't open .exe files, something naughty has happened.

What were the 'minor' issues that you fixed?

For the registry fix it should be "%1"%* and not "%1"%*" as you have written above. This has to be written to all relevant folders in the registry.

What are your BIOS/UEFI settings like?

The convicted felon stone fired a shot across the bow last week when he spoke of the fact "I could have turned on 45 but I protected him". stone has a history of singing when faced with punishment, as he---like 45 and his people---are ultimately abject cowards at their core. Clearly 45, who has been 'friends' with stone since the mid 1980s, both knew stone's history as well as what stone knows that could result in 45's criminal indictment.

Thus, only days before stone was to report to prison, 45 used the camouflage of Coward Hour on a Friday July night to further abuse and disgrace the office of the Presidency and issue a commutation.

Some charges against stone remain, however, and when Rule of Law returns to the US in January 2021, stone will again face conviction and imprisonment, and if his history is any guide, he will sing then and 45 will have to face the music.

Given the need to remind the American people and the world that everyone is equal under the law and no one is above it, it is likely that if convicted, 45 and his cohorts (family) will go to jail. There is precedent in developed countries for the jailing of a former leader, most notably in SOuth Korea, where at least two formers rulers were sent to prison for their crimes.

So it shall be in the United States.

You seem to be under the impression that he (Stone) will still be alive at this time.

    Far fetched? Lets see.

I expect that he had been in quarantine and tested prior to arrival. Last thing they want is illness while on a trip. It is the protocol that all NATO countries to isolate troops before they are allowed to travel.

The Americans arrived in Thailand after a stop-dash visit to Singapore, almost certainly no quarantine/isolation from Singapore to here. Need to track back and see what Singapore's protocols are for testing diplomats on visits like this, and what swab testing is going to show upon immediate arrival in Thailand, well within the perceived incubation period for this virus.

The guests and Thai Army officials are required to strictly follow measures set by the government’s Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA), including ensuring seats in all vehicles are partitioned and that they are cleaned and sanitised as per the guidelines.

The vehicles must also carry alcohol based sanitising gel and pads, waste bins for disposal, radio for communication with the drivers as well as a disinfectant spray for the driver to use to sanitise the vehicle.

If the general or any of the other 8 people in the delegation are already infected, it doesn't really matter how clean or sanitised their transport is, it isn't going to kill the virus. Being a VIP doesn't make anyone exempt from contracting it.

Still, may not be a bad thing, ask heads of countries like our Boris (UK) what his hospital stay was like because he assumed the virus defined victims by status only. He certainly isn't the only 'head of state' that is arrogant enough to believe this. May the general have many successful meetings during his stay.

The dog's still young, curious and friendly, he barks at strangers (which is what I think she really wanted from a guard dog, not the whole tearing people limb-from-limb thing), but he's quite happy to make friends with them. I'm not sure if or when that will change. He's also only 50% pit bull, so I'm hoping not as unpredictable as the real deal can be.

I had another thought, has anyone tried dog training classes here? I've no idea if there's a school in Laem Chabang, but I'd happily pay for the lessons if she'd go.

Again, no help with the video you were after, but one last comment from me on this thread Guderian, is the recommendation that your wife/yourself look towards a Herm Sprenger 2.25mm prong/pinch collar.

I fully understand these collars are controversial, (they have as much stigma attached to them as pitts have) mostly from people who have never even handled them let alone used them, as the tool that they are.

I will openly admit that I was one of them. However, as a complete novice using the prong collar and able to get a 37kg German Shepherd suffering from slight anxiety and of a nervous disposition into the heel position in just 30 minutes, I was fully converted.

They are not instruments of torture but an instrument of communication between yourself and the dog without harming the dog in any way. A lot safer than the normal flat collar which has one point contact in the trachea area; the prong collar sits higher than this just under the ears and contact is distributed to multiple points

The photos below are of a rig I use everyday, the (green) attachment is for safety and attaches to Kahlua's flat collar he wears always. The prong collar comes off at the end of the walk. Believe me when I say that this is a remarkable tool. Note the leash, very light leather for the dog it controls..................

We have something similar in the UK by an old biddie called Barbara Woodhouse. She was quite famous for her dog training programmes on the TV some years ago. If I can't find anything suitable in Thai maybe I'll try her on one of those, she might identify with the older lady better than she would with a male trainer.

If she lived with me then the dog would have been trained already, but she spends most of her time with her family in Laem Chabang, she's got her own place up there and wanted the big dog as a guard dog for that place. I see my responsibility in this as persuading her that she needs to do something to train the dog, not actually training him myself.

Ah, OK, understand. Yeah, 4 months old, something needs to started soon otherwise she will be having battles with the mutt the older it gets.

Sit, Down, Heel, Stay, Come; these are the really important ones it needs to start. Oh, and tell her not to try to train for security; the security will come from the relationship.

  9. Hi OP, I can't recommend any dog training videos in Thai, but can recommend something to watch on YouTube. If you type in either Tom Davis or Upstate Canine Academy you will find his videos. This is a young American trainer/behaviour specialist who releases his videos to help people in your situation.

All the visual aspects are here and you can help your wife if necessary with the script. Your new dog is not just your wife's responsibility after all, it is the responsibility of the entire family. The pup/dog is now part of your pack.

  10. Although not directly answering your question, here are a couple of things to think about.

    1. If using the web-mail, just go to the junk mail box, select all, and shift + delete. Not only does this bypass the deleted/trash box but it will give your missus a chance to review what is in the folder before getting rid of the contents forever. Scheduled deletes are OK but are not safe if you don't check the contents of what you are deleting.

    2. If using W10, she has the option of using the built-in Mail app to read her email account. Even if you have only one machine at home, it still keeps her mail relatively private.

    3. Again, there are many 3rd party mail clients out there that can be installed. Thunderbird as an example.

    4. If privacy isn't an issue you can install multiple accounts on Outlook 365.

As stated earlier, this does not answer your question, but if you were asking for advice, then don't worry about scheduled deletes and just do/or show your wife how to manually delete the contents of the Spam folder. After checking nothing has been redirected to the folder that shouldn't have been.

Why are you drinking beer out of water glasses?

I mean it would be illegal if the glasses were advertising beer, even though there is beer in them.

    No further comment on ridiculousness..................

  12. I know the shareholders wouldn't be happy, but if I was Zuckerberg I would drop the entire platform for a month in response to their ad-blocking.

FB has made their billions providing the biggest free social media platform in the world. Fight back against these minority groups, let the normal users voice (on another platform) their opinions against them.

    That should wake the woken................

  13. What would I miss? I'd miss my clothes, there all here.

But I suppose if I expand it I'd probably miss the wife (she won't leave Thailand), the dog, the house, the car and dare I say it, I'd miss the job as well.

Been living full time in Thailand for the last 23 years, married 21 years of that and been 'home' twice in that period. Truth be known, I'd miss everything about this land of haphazard mysteries...................

    Relatively old and poor CPU.

It being on par with this low cost laptop: https://www.invadeit.co.th/product/notebooks-laptops/acer/a314-22-a8st-nx-hvwst-003-pure-silver-p051541/

    For 13k, expect a better CPU: https://www.invadeit.co.th/product/notebooks-laptops/asus/laptop-15-m509da-ej443t-slate-gray-p050793/

Though both of them are lacking. Relatively poor screens.

Another two good suggestions for the OP. As was mine, only a suggestion (aiming towards M2 instead of an HDD, after a 30 second search)

In my original post the comment on good specs was more towards reliability than the latest and greatest CPU. IMO, for a child, non-gaming, and for remote learning only, the specs of your 2 suggestions and mine are more than enough. Lets not lose the purpose of the machine.

Been carrying around a Zippo for years and never used it because it would run out way too fast compared to a regular Bic. Did not know about gas inserts. Know anywhere I can buy an insert? Bangkok/Pattaya? Thanks.

I got mine through Lazada, but looking at my old links they are out of stock at the minute. That said, you can still contact the seller direct through the pages. Here are two different sellers:

    https://www.lazada.co.th/products/zippo-butane-lighter-insert-double-torch-i536386737-s970508535.html?spm=a2o4m.searchlistbrand.list.19.350a5118Ab5Z82&search=1

    https://www.lazada.co.th/products/butane-lighter-insert-double-torch-i848070674-s1719894779.html?spm=a2o4m.searchlistbrand.list.31.350a5118QChZ6s&search=1

The inserts come in one, two or four torches, I find that the two torch versions works great. A little hint if you do get one, on the first one I got the actual igniter was pushed flat against the inside of the wind guard and I had to bend it into position for it to ignite the torches. Has worked fine since.
