  1. Kia Motors maintenance in Phuket ?

    Hello to all

Does anybody knows where i can find Kia sportage maintenance in Phuket ?

    Thanks

    Philippe

I'm not sure about Kia's(just another car is it not?) but I know some good guys who are very handy with land rovers and suzukis. They specialize in major modifications for off-roading. Part of the Chaofa 4x4 club. I think there are Kia dealerships as well.

Vehicle service shouldn't be too hard to find. I've noted several very competent shops in my area.

I found some very competent air conditioning guys to work on my odd ball truck. The air blows colder than a new truck now!

  2. A good curry house I've tried twice is in Laguna entrance called Indiana the chef used to work next door in Kasmir and left and has opened up 2 doors past the Kashmir, a friend of mine also tried out the Indiana and was well impressed

I'll have to try that one. I think Laguna is a ways from Chalong though.

I too have been very disappointed with the indian food in Phuket.

I look forward to going to bkk just for the indian restaurants.

We need some indian food in the Chalong area.

I can't complain to much because we have so many good restaurants of other persuasions that things don't get too boring.

I'm sitting in hotel in KL right now and the indian food around here is great.

    :o

  3. Most of the guys don't have business' here, we hate it and love it the same as anyone else, but if you're going to come on here and say it's rubbish because of wild rumours, not many of us are going to let that pass without some form of rebuttal, a lot of us do or did actually live here.

Yes some tuk tuk drivers are bastars, yes the 'do you want a suit' brigade can get on your bloody nerves on beach road, but Patong has been like that for years, it's a wonderful counter balance to the rest of the island.

They were all there before the tsunami and they're still there trying to eek out a living. I don't see any reason to begrudge anyone his living!

The way to deal with the tuktuk guys is smile and say "no thank you". The tailors are the same. Except the rare occasion one of them dares to grab my arm! In which case I look them straight in the eye and from about 4 inches from their face inform them very slowly and deliberately it would be a very good idea to remove his hand from me immediately. That doesn't happen very often anymore! :o

Whining Tiger: I just heard of a dandy place just for you

I'm sure the place is just full of people just like you!

  4. Having a local cell phone is really handy.

Upon arriving in BKK go to the Pantip Plaza. There are several Nokia sellers on the ground floor.

They usually speak enough english. Buy a new cheap GSM phone like the nokia model 3315. It will be about 3500 baht with a sim card. Go with the "1-2card" gsm system(green package). They have better coverage around the country. My prefference is the nokia 6610. They can often be found used for a reasonable prices(about the same as a new 3315). The 6610 is tough and durable too with better battery life. It is smaller and has a few more features than the 3315.

The 3315 is what most ordinary thai people use. Don't bother with the fancier stylish flippy phones. More expensive and fragile..

But the 3315 will get you started without having to spend a bundle.

BTW the there are some nifty to calling international off your cell phone cheaply.

If dialing the USA for example you dial 009-1-areacode-number. about 15 baht a minute! Very useful if you intend to call home on occasion. For other countries I'm sure there are other tricks.

If you're in Patong I can steer you towards a very helpful cell phone store that doesn't gouge the farang.

  5. I warned a group of 6 persons i know who are now in Thailand not to go down there just got a Email now from them after being there 3 days saying what a S**T HOLE !!! & a rip off compared to other places in Thailand too much luvly jubbly diamond geezer also

These guys are going to Samui then to Pattaya then Bkk !!!

i make no wonder tourism is dying there they will need all the luck they can get

bookings for the high season this year are nearly 100%. A buddies biz turned one of his best days yesterday.

Yes sir Mr whining Tiger you seem extraordinarily well informed! :o

It's seeming like you have an agenda to spam this forum with your negativity.

Try Tesco Lotus they have a nice selection of cheeses to go with your whine! :D:D

  6. I think it's a sure sign of being twisted.

I think Bangkok does it to you.

One of my most prominent memories is the moment I stepped off a beat up Bangladesh Biman 727

at the airport in Bangkok in december 1978. Back then you stepped off the jet right into the outside air rather into the jet-ways of today.

The blast of hot humid blend of varied aromas that permeate Bangkok hit me hard. I was immediately intoxicated by it.

Now you have to wait till you get to the taxi and out of the airport for it hit you.

I still like it but in smaller doses now.

I love walking around that lower sukumvit area. Blends of smells there are great.

I love riding the motorbike around Phuket and getting a nose full of the day. Especially in the morning when people are cooking up the food for the day.

    I'm pretty twisted. :D:o

It's getting so I hate to leave the country.

    :D

  7. It gets better it cost me 120bht to get back to where I started from on Beach Rd and by this time I had wasted nearly 2 hours.

What!!!!!! Where you born yesterday? Maybe you were bored and had time to kill? You wasted 2 hours!!! <deleted>?

And BTW a 20 baht bill will take you anywhere you want in Patong on a motorbike taxi!

These stupid scams have been around for quite a while.

  8. I like Pattaya too. I own property in both places and commute on the little turbo props.

Pattaya has the best quality gogo's I've seen anywhere. There are three especially well run places on that soi Pattayaland where the penthouse hotel is and the new orleans restaurant. The guy who runs the restaurant also runs three or four gogo's on that soi which really are exceptionally and fantastically staffed with exceptional women. Those gogo's alone are worth the visit to Pattaya.

Patong has it's attractions. The massage shops are a lot of fun in Patong. That's where you find the quality women. But the tailors, tuk tuk drivers, bangla rd bar girls, and mafia touts are not part of it.

    Pattaya has it's drawbacks too.

I like both. And I like Bangkok too. But maybe that's because I ain't no whining hippy! :D:o

  9. The annoying tailors, tuktuk drivers, street merchants, bargirls, and "all" were there before and big surprise they're still there all trying to eek out a living.

If you don't like it Mr Silent Tiger perhaps the Kao San road scene or Cambodia would be more to your liking. (you aren't a farking whining hippy are you?)

Don't come back to Patong. We don't want your here anyway! No whiners are allowed.

Actually post tsunami Patong is nicer than before. The girls are prettier and cheaper than Pattaya.

The beach is cleaner than Pattaya.

The air is cleaner than Pattaya.

The food is better and cheaper.

If you want quiet just drop into one of the many reasonably priced spa's and relax.

  10. Does riding a 125 honda wave count as being a biker?

    I ride all around Phuket.

Eye protection(especially at night) a good helmet and protection from the sun are important.

Expect to see some really stupid and dangerous driving out there. Be very careful it's easy to get hurt badly. The death/injury toll from motorbike accidents is frighteningly high.

Be especially careful making right turns. Many people get hit from behind.

  11. I heard import taxes on wine were to rise. Today I bought a few cases of wine from my local dealer to fill my cellar/wine fridge.

Wine seems to be my big extravagance. Putting additional tax on it seems silly.

Especially since Thailand apparently has descent wine producers too. Though i have yet to find any of their products marketed here in Phuket.

Supposedly the is a winery in Loei which makes a good chenin blanc.

  12. nope. And I've been suspended here too. Don't regret it. Turned out the mod who suspended me was a sick and had to go away himself.

Shows that there is a learning curve for everyone.

Though I don't post here very often due to a perceived intolerance.

Maybe i'm wrong but this seems to be one of the more intolerant forums.

Then again I've had a couple of johnny walkers already and perhaps precludes me from any participation! :D:o

  13. I'm an airline pilot and take interest in all aviation related incidents/accidents to help promote my own personal safety.

This Boeing 737-300 which just crashed has some odd aspects to it.

First what I noted that the pilot reported to air traffic control they were having "air conditioning problems". First of all that is improper terminology. The "air conditioning" on an airliner is called a "cabin pressurization system".

At 34000 feet, the altitude they where at if sudden cabin pressure is lost you have about 15-20 of useful consciousness. This why the cockpit crew are equipped with quick donning oxygen masks.

Standard cockpit procedure is when one member of the flight crew leaves his seat (to pee or flirt with a flight attendant) the remaining one wears his mask.

Since problems with this type of aircraft are extremely rare a complacent crew could be taken by surprise with a gradual pressurization problem. I have heard that this particular aircraft just had an issue with cabin pressure. I strongly suspect that this accident began on the ground with maintenance.

I've had 2 "in flight" emergencies during my career and both were maintenance related on aircraft fresh out of maintenance.

I'll wager money heads are going to roll and maintenance of this airline are scrambling to cover their a$$es.

  14. These guys are a PITA! Last night while trying to walk home on Bangla rd I had to ask this one tailor tout to remove his arm from my person three times. Though these poor guys are are just trying to eek out a living. The ones that should be deported are the ones driving around the island like enraged maniacs. On the soi where the Islander restaurant is ever notice what pigs the the owners of the indian restaurant at the end are? Deport them. Their restaurant sucks their food is mediocre and they charge 180 baht for a glass of crappy wine.

I would love to take an axe to one of their fancy shiny new cars! :o

    They are real POS IMHO!

  15. Seems to me there just was a fruit convention recently. Anyway the more the merrier. They are inherently good for business as the gays tend to be a fairly affluent group.

I'm sure they wont be bothering the skanky girls I have in my harem! :o

HIV is on a steep decline in Thailand and I'm sure the gay community is quite aware that they are at higher risk than the rest of the population.

Thailand is a place where everyone can have fun! God(my generic god!) bless the all! :D

  16. not to rent one (usually they ask for your passport or a copy of)

but you will need an international drivers licence to ride the motorbike.

Or else have 300 baht ready every time the police stop you. (which happens very frequently for motor bikes) And don't forget to wear your "brain basket"! (another 300 baht) :o

  17. Avoid watching UBC or any English-speaking broadcasts.

Have Thai-only on the Telly and concentrate on what's beeing said.

    That's helped for me. :D

That's a good way to gradually get your ear accustomed to hearing thai.

Also the way many BG's learn english is useful too. They would try an learn one new word every day. Before long you've got a vocabulary.

I just started to learn to read thai. Talk about an eye opener!! :D:o

  18. End of story - the mafia rules

That's right! So watch your step or else you could be wearing cement galoshes feeding the fish in Chalong Bay!
