No they have not. I too have moved on but even in the late 70's there was only one 3 star hotel on Patong, and the main rd. was mostly still dirt. Samui was just being discovered and there was not a hotel one other than a couple of dumps in Nathon the port. It really was heaven back then. Real Robinson Crusoe fantasies...

They are not similar at all. One you go to to climb to the top to see the sunrise. Just a mountain top, not a lot to do. Mostly a Thai destination. MHS is a hippy village now. Crowded and almost urban there are so many travelers.

Bingo, and thanks for that. I know I am leaving BKK on May 6 to attend my daughters wedding in California. I know we will return the 27th at 11:00am via HKG. I would like to it right now on my computer and have it done and dusted. 2 of the 3 days prior to the return I will be hiking down into the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. I dont even use my phone for filling out forms at all only my laptop with a full sized keyboard so I am not going to do it then. Luckily having a good bye dinner with the other daughter who is tech savvy. I will simply hand her my phone and have her do it.

Been in the DMK and Prathum Thani area for over 30 years. You are going to have to go a lot further away to find that. You are going to be shocked at the price of land as well. 2 Rai will set you back close to a million USD in the DMK area these days. I would look in the Nakorn Naiyoke area, really nice but 1.5-2 hours away from central BKK.
