  1. And the least vaccinated age group are the over 60's. (Reuters)
  2. All of this based on the old motorbike scams? This happens all across Thailand where there are tourists. I have come across it in Phuket, Chiang Mai, KPN and even Hanoi. Yes the one in Vietnam. And I never give my passport.
  3. From The Thaiger (and BP) "Thai authorities respond by saying that the Facebook page is run by a group of foreigners led by an Australian lawyer whose purpose is to stir up controversy and damage Thailand’s reputation by speculating conspiracy theories about cases from the past."
  4. Sunday night - I have just driven to a friend's bar in Maenam. From what I saw in Bangrak, all of the bars were open except Papa Joe's. There were even a couple of bars open near Bangrak market. Heading from Bangrak to Maenam, about six bars open on the ring road just before the police station. Not many customers, but that was at 19.30 on a Sunday night.
  5. I do not profess to be a tourism expert, but I do wonder where they get their numbers from. We operate in the NE of the island. A smallish community. In the last week or two, we have checked in about:- 5 groups of Germans 4 groups of French 4 groups from the USA/Canada 1 group from the Czech republic and a couple from SA. All coming in via the 7 nights or the 1 night programs. Some after they have quarantined and spent a week in Phuket. Most have stayed for a week or more. Not a huge number, but it is a start. These are all tourists, with many going home after their stay here. We still have domestic tourists arriving at weekends. We also have a few 'ex pats' coming to their holiday homes. And it seems to have finally stopped raining all of the time. (Up here anyway.) The bad news? 'Wobbly' scooter riders are back on the island so take care.
  6. I have never met a lawyer who worked for free. (I am sure that there might be some though.) To the majority of Thais (including the RTP and the press), all foreigners are tourists. As a lawyer, you should know that if they mention your details, you could sue them. I am not a KT apologist. Just someone who does not believe everything that is posted on the internet. Including posts on this web site.
  7. Bit of an exaggeration. Chaweng and Lamai are devastated. Bangrak was quite lively when I drove through last night. Most bars open. I am off to a bar in Maenam tonight that has been open for some time now. Last time that I went there (before the rains) many other bars on the ring road were open. Sorry. Restaurants. ????
  8. My vet told me that the chemicals for the injection are very difficult to obtain legally. Lots of jumping through hoops and documents. It is not a given that they will receive them.
  9. It is considered old in the tropics. Especially if it is a large dog. My 11 year old German Shepherd was not well. Vet said that she was as old as she would get here in the tropics. We eventually had her put down at 12 years old. (Hips - could not walk.) I also had a Golden Retriever put down. The clue is in the fact that both dogs went to the same vet for regular injections and any ailments. The vet could prove a 'history' to the powers that be. It is when there are no medical records that things become complicated. BTW. We had both dogs cremated at a local temple and still have the ashes in urns. The vet organised it all.
  10. And as you said in another thread PoorSucker. 'November is monsoon season.' Not even locals sit on the beach in the rain. Yes, Chaweng and Lamai are dead (international tourist resorts) but the rest of the island is doing OK. Not great, but OK. Hotels are the ones suffering. Villa bookings are quite busy. Private villa with 4 bedrooms, sea views and a private pool v 4 hotel rooms and shared facilities. Fireworks - not near the flight path to the airport. Booze - yes thanks. Many restaurants can serve alcohol legally as part of the Samui Plus deal. The others - come and find out.
  11. That is certainly true in our case. We have been looking for a couple of guys for pools/gardens/handyman. Very little interest. We pay much more than the minimum wage and are struggling to find people. It will only get much worse when the hotels start to open up again. We currently only employ Thais, but we are having to rethink that policy. All of our competitors hire Burmese and Thais.
  12. It's the perfect time to come PoorSucker. 7 kilometers of beach all to yourself. ????
  13. Yes it is. It shows that he was a very good bodyguard. He protected her from the corrupt people that were trying to arrest her.
  14. But pubs, bars and entertainment places are all closed! Perhaps they are not the problem after all?
  15. Looks like he is desperate to go to the toilet.
  16. From another TV report - "and 1.5 million doses of Sinovac from the Republic of China. "
  17. The only reason that the CCP are giving the doses away is because they know that they are not very good.
  18. Are the Asean neighbours open yet? I thought that it was only Thailand.
