That last question is the million dollar one. Here on Samui, the TM 30 is accepted by most as proof of address - except the banks. Banks still demand the old form that the immigration office refuse to produce. I had to have a replacement licence some years back when I lost my wallet. All I needed was copy of the licence and my passport. The passport number was different (new passport) and they just changed it. Simple. As always in Thailand, different government offices might have different procedures.

More than 5,000 Thais commit suicide every year in the latest published figures that I could find. (2020) Thailand also has a large aged expat community. There are no official figures for suicides in this group, but maybe it becomes a consideration when looking at medical costs and more importantly 'quality of life'. Having watched my 38 year old son die slowly from brain tumours over a two and a half year period, 'quality of life' figures high in my 72 year old body. I am still active (sort of) and busy running a business, but I have a 'living will' (do not resuscitate order) registered with the local hospital and close friends also have a copy. For me, suicide is not a very high priority. But it could be plan C or plan D under different circumstances.
