  1. From what I have seen, most bank loans use the land as collateral.
  2. That last question is the million dollar one. Here on Samui, the TM 30 is accepted by most as proof of address - except the banks. Banks still demand the old form that the immigration office refuse to produce. I had to have a replacement licence some years back when I lost my wallet. All I needed was copy of the licence and my passport. The passport number was different (new passport) and they just changed it. Simple. As always in Thailand, different government offices might have different procedures.
  3. What farang income tax? I know of the proposed one starting next year for everyone but a farang income tax?
  4. More importantly is the devastating effect on farmers and their families. 🥺
  5. There are a few (but then again, too few to mention) https://www.ibtimes.com/malaysias-first-islam-compliant-airline-rayani-air-takes-skies-starting-muslim-prayer-2238883
  6. I hope that they took flowers and fruit for the poor man.
  7. As a farang, you automatically have respect until you show that you do not deserve it.
  8. Try reading the full article on ScandAsia.
  9. Anyone can have an accident. Even an 'Only fans' girl.
  10. One country looks after its citizens. The other country locks them up or poisons them. (Many also fall out of windows in high buildings.)
  11. That photo was from before he went to prison. Look at the photo in the BP for the 'after' photo. He looks pretty rough. Still fat though. Altogether, 484 convicts had their sentences commuted in this batch and 113 were released early.
  12. Did they cancel their trips? Did anyone ask them why? Or is it that the numbers have dropped by 60,000? ie October is usually low season.
  13. The suicide rate in Thailand is the highest in the region. It is not 'news' as you seem to want to call it, because it happens a lot. From the aseanpost And that is just Thais. More than 5,000 Thais commit suicide every year in the latest published figures that I could find. (2020) Thailand also has a large aged expat community. There are no official figures for suicides in this group, but maybe it becomes a consideration when looking at medical costs and more importantly 'quality of life'. Having watched my 38 year old son die slowly from brain tumours over a two and a half year period, 'quality of life' figures high in my 72 year old body. I am still active (sort of) and busy running a business, but I have a 'living will' (do not resuscitate order) registered with the local hospital and close friends also have a copy. For me, suicide is not a very high priority. But it could be plan C or plan D under different circumstances.
  14. Thanks Sheryl. Good advice as always. April have suggested a 50% discount on my annual premium if I pay the first $1,500.
  15. I remember fondly my early time in Bangkok back in '93. Sundays were spent walking along the canals and river. Always meeting lovely locals in their local communities. Not a clue what they were saying but always offering water and food to the crazy 'farang' walking around in the heat. I loved those times. People back in the office thought that I was crazy when I told them where I walked - 'too dangerous'. No way! Great times. ????
  16. Thailand is walking a very fine line and could drop off it if not careful. In bed with Putin. Supporting the illegal Burmese military and bowing to Xi who is saying that Israel must not invade Gaze (but it is OK for Russia to invade Ukraine).
  17. Always has been. Pay to stay open illegally or pay to open legally. Up to you.
  18. I have always used the NatWest online banking and I receive OTP's, messages etc fine on my Thai number. I am registered with them as living in Thailand.
  19. Damn. Looks like is might be all Southern Hemisphere semi and final matches. Again. Come on England. Come on France.
  20. Forms and advice here. (I have just used those docs.)
  21. I think that is it is more a political decision - big uncle Xi? From what I read, most EV's in Thailand are Chinese and they are building factories/assembly plants for them.
  22. Yesterday, I saw a young girl, walking backwards up the down escalator. What could possibly go wrong.
  23. Does anyone actually believe what he says?
