where to stay for one week in February
Tropicalevo replied to hotandsticky's topic in Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Koh Tao
If you decide on KPN, I always stay at Maehaad Bay Resort. Next to a lagoon/beach and Koh Maa. Stunning sunsets. 700 square meter pool. I stay there for 3/4 days every February http://www.maehaadbayresort.com/ -
National parks ‘temporarily’ suspending e-ticketing

So they did not test the software properly. Users found bugs and they are now trying to fix it. -
where to stay for one week in February

Then I suggest Choengmon or Maenam. Lots of choices at both. Usually good sunsets in February, so Maenam probably better for that reason - especially if you are with your partner. Lots of good restaurants with exceptional views. -

My wife worked as a schoolteacher until she died. I retired at 49 and started my own business here in Thailand. I am still working at age 72. Wife and I rarely spent day times together except holidays and some weekends Often, we were in different countries. I guess that absence makes the heart grow fonder as were were happily married for 30 years.

Pool maintenance cost
Tropicalevo replied to maskedman2's topic in Real Estate, Housing, House and Land Ownership
That is a very accurate statement. Pool pump costs - depends on how much your unit of electricity is and how long you run the pump. On a private development with electricity at 9 baht per unit and a heavily used pool, yes. 3,000 baht a month is probable. We run most pools here for 6 - 8 hours a day. Lots of tourists. My own pool , only 5 hours a day (4 x 10). I never use it - too busy. I built it for my wife but she died 7 years ago. I keep it going for visitors. Chemicals are relatively cheap but not having a shower, wearing suntan cream and clothes etc all need more chemicals. Water evaporation can be a factor if you do not have government water or a well, as can be maintenance when having to fix problems and emptying the pool. We have been in drought here for 10 months this year and truck water is 200 - 300 baht a cubic meter. Not an ongoing cost though. Those are the down sides. Upside - a pool usually adds value to the property. They look great and make for fantastic photos. It is so good to jump into the pool on a very hot day. Visitors (Thai and foreign) love pools as does some wildlife. I had a monitor lizard in my pool once. For me, the decision was made when my wife said "I do not care where in Thailand we live but I want sunsets and a pool." Happy wife, happy life. -
Thai FM to accompany released Hamas hostages back to Thailand
Tropicalevo replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
This government has taken a leaf from Prayut. ie get in the newspapers at every opportunity. I wonder why the FM did not go to Burma to accompany the Thais back from there? -
Tax Refund Backed Shopping Sprees By Well-To-Do To Kick Off Soon

Only Thais can vote. In a democratic country, this is called 'vote buying'. -
Same here. I live in a villa and only have a blue book. No name in it. WP and visa, all kosher. A number of bank accounts in different banks. You do not need a yellow book. You may need a rental agreement though depending on the bank. The last bank that I went to to open an additional deposit account wanted a POA from immigration. Immigration here do not provide these any more so I just went to another bank.

Glad that you recovered OK.

Totally agree. My new eyes were just over 200,000 baht. Expensive, but to me, worth it. I self insure and I have a pink id card. Lived in Thailand permanently for 23 years. At all other Bangkok Hospitals I get a discount. Not in Phuket. A friend who lives in Phuket had the same procedure for 140,000 baht. Having said all of that, I am still very happy with my new 'eyes'. It is a well known fact that hospitals bump up the charges significantly when dealing with insurance companies. Here on Samui, another friend could not get insurance if he used Bangkok Hospital Samui. If he used other hospitals here - no problem.

Moving and storage services? Failed marriage
Tropicalevo replied to notrub's topic in Marriage and Divorce
It depends on where you are and where do you want to be. There are storage and move facilities here on Samui. Just a thought. I rent a small Thai place (I call them pig sty design). A row of single bedroom 'chalet's' in a terrace with a living area, kitchen and toilet. 2.000 THB a month. Electricity/water minimal. Samui is probably an expensive area compared to many places. We store stuff for guests/friends who come every year. Now and again, new staff will doss down there whilst they sort their lives out. -
I agree. My experience at BHP has also been very good. I had cataracts and needed replacement lenses in my eyes. When I looked around, I found that BHP was able to provide tri focal lenses at their Bright View department. It is one of the most professional and pleasant departments that I have come across anywhere in Thailand (and I have have been to a few over the last thirty years). Doctor Captain was excellent in his explanations and just gave one confidence. The nurses and other staff were just as professional in their attitude and work. The new 'eyes' are great. I do not need to wear glasses any more. Well done BHP and thank you.

What other emoji do you suggest instead of when someone dies? I refuse to use the others. Why can I not use 'confused' when I do not understand the comment or if I think that it is stupid. -
Sorry to sound dumb, but if Firefox is working fine, why does one need a backup? I have been using Firefox since it first came out. No problems. I have Adblockplus and use DuckDuckGo for searches. I never see pop ups or adverts. All trouble free browsing. I typically have 10+ tabs on the go. (I also use Foxit PDF reader - again, it does all that I want.)

Quitting Google anything... fed up for constant changes
Tropicalevo replied to GypsyT's topic in IT and Computers
I use Proton - I think that it was the minimum paid service. No problems at all. A few web sites make using a VPN a bit clunky but it sorts itself out when I switch to another location -
I agree. Some folk think that all of Thailand is like Bangkok. Mind you, I used to live near the Khlong Toei slums. Not 'plenty of food' there either. How the heck the pensioners live on 600 baht a month I will never know.
