Interesting. Half the population dont even have a licence to start with. For a points system to work it would mean the cops would actually have to police traffic, which I dont see happening anytime soon, given their total inability to date in doing so.
Plus the points being discussed here are laughably low. Drunk driving should be a ban. here at three points a time you can do it four times before you reach 12 points. How does that improve safety?
You're thinking logically. How do you propose passing that on to any Thai person?

I agree to a point that stupidity is a big factor, but as the OP states, the real problem is lack of education. Down to the government, which in fact doesn't give a rats arse.

Perhaps a leaflet should be given to all arriving to Thailand, stating, "There are road rules, but Thai's have no idea what they are. If you should be involved in an accident with a Thai driver, you will be deemed to hace caused said accident. Be warned, the roads and footpaths are a killing ground".?

Some one is avin larf. Any Thai would have the shirt off your back given only half a chance. Then try to sell it back to you at twice what its worth.

All this time spent of catching strays, checking them for rabies and vaccinating them BUT no one thought about sterilization?
I mean, they went through the trouble of catching them, might as well perform a quick snip-snip. That would reduce the spread of strays and cost less in the long run in feeding them/taking care of them.
When did logic move to Thailand?

I can't talk about the specific case at Chonburi immigration, but from what i got in other offices i assume that the copies that you get this way were never in the hand of the owner. Probably these copies were produced when they copied the wrong document, made too many copies of a document, or what ever. So no chance to sign it
If you want to protect yourself from this you have to make copies by yourself, sign them, write the purpose and date on it as you suggested, and make sure your passport never leaves your sight when you show it to anybody.
Not so easy to ensure your passport never leaves your sight when renewing the extension. It is usually taken to the Captain for verification of being correctly completed, who sits behind a closed screen, at the I.O I go to.

Have you checked the exchange rate used for conversion to Baht? Have you accounted for the .25% fee at the Thai end? You might want to take a closer look. Do you get the same amount into your Thai account that you would with transferwise?
The exchange rate is the same as is posted on the KTB currency exchange rate web page on the day. I inform WesternUnion of the transfer, they inform me of the amount I will have deposited in my KTB A/C. It usually arrives within 12 to 14 hours. And NO. KTB do not make a charge of .25% , and never have done. I cannot speak for others, I only know what I get is always the KTB quoted exchange rate on that day. WesternUnion only charge £2.90 for the transfer, up to a total of £4000 max.

If you have a Thai bank account you should use Transferwise. The baht rate is the same as you see in the newspaper if not slighly better. It costs me 6.95 quid to transfer1000GBP to my Thai bank in total
£6.95 to transfer £1000 via Trasferwise? I transfer the same amount and sometime more for £2.95 per transfer, using my Debit Card with Western Union, to my Thai bank.

As you say, if they had a brain, they would be dangerous. They are dangerous without one, just think how much more dangerous they could be, with one?

Everybody knows that as long as the law is not enforced and the police don't do their job that nothing is going to change. About time the government get's a wakeup call.
They do get a wakeup call, buts only that pesky alarm clock again.

I think it would be of interest to read the, ' double tax treaty', between the UK and Thailand.

If you marry in Thailand there is no need to register it in the UK, the marriage is perfectly legal, however, as the certificate is in Thai, then you would need to have the properly translated for use in the UK.
https://www.gov.uk/marriage-abroad
As far as I understand, Thailand recognizes a foreign marriage between a Thai & a foreigner, or even two Thai's, the need to actually register it comes only if you want it to be legal in Thailand.
As per @rockin robin this is covered under the Civil & Commercial Code Section 1459:
"A marriage in foreign country between Thai people or between a Thai people and a foreigner may be effected according to the form prescribed by Thai law or by the law of the country where it takes place.
If the spouses desire to have the marriage registered according to Thai law, the registration shall be effected by a Thai Diplomatic or Consular Officer."
If already in Thailand, then as per other posters, it can be registered at the Amphur office covering where the spouse is registered.
Sorry this is late. Not wishing to contradict, Mattd. Last year I was asked by the DWP to confirm my marriage position. When I pointed out the cirtificate was in Thai, I was told they wanted the original, not a translated copy. I sent just the original. It was returned with a note of thanks, so I assume they had it translated.

Build a 15 bedroom guesthouse to UK building regs standard. A bar and pool woukd be a must. Staff it with the 5 family members, then take my wife on a slow round the world trip for maybe a year. I wouldn't gave to worry abbut the family ever again, and if they cock things up, its their fault.

My wife works but I'm not sure how much she earns. About 1000 per day when schools are open, I think. However, I give her a set amount each month for household bills and general items. I pay for running the car, outings such a dinner once a week, visits and holidays. We have separate bank accounts, I don't know what she has and she doesn't know what I have. She does know I have made ample provision for her when I depart this cruel world and we are both happy with the situation as it stands.

I’m very surprised the junta have got away with so little in their four years, after all, they appear to be unable to organise a good visit to the toilet for a person with diarrhoea.
