  1. in the early days of aviation passengers were weighed..then as aircraft became less weight critical an average weight figure of 75kgs for males, 65 kgs, females, 40kgs for kids under 12 and 10kgs under 2 years old.

there is talk of weighing punters being reintroduced as average weight figures have increased..perhaps they should measure, as well...have standard aircraft seats fitted on weighing scales at check-in to see if punters can be shoe horned into them..maybe using 'speak your weight.' E.G. Lady sits on scale and weighing scale voice says: "would one of you , please get off!" ...should be good for customer relations.

  2. train is cheap, can't remember 3rd class fare but probably 50 Baht..

make sure you go 3rd class, the second and first classes, if available, have the aircon on full blast and you will galloping pneumonia by the time you get to Cha Am

3rd class has fans, windows open and once out of Bangkok the countryside views are stunning, moreover, Thai people are a joy to travel with.

there will be plenty of food/drink vendors on board

Disadvantage, if you think it so, is that it takes about 4 hours++

while Victory Monument 'white knuckler' mini-bus is about 2 hours+++

  3. use it all the time now..sometimes it crashes if I have a lot of sites open, but, it stores the crashed sites and they are easily restarted..

stopped using IE, Firefox etc sometime back..

like the way Chrome has visual display of of most used web sites and downloads are quick

  4. various upgrade strategies.

Get to know the check-in clerks and drop them a few quid and/or give them a present, deliver things to their friends at your destination

get to know the foreign station managers e.g. Lufthansa/BA/QA etc guy/girl at Bangkok, Thai guy in London etc etc..

if you are a frequent traveller on same route, marry one of them

Get to know the hostesses on board if you are a regular

get a travel agency business card/plastic ID, show it at check-in and ask for an upgrade-travel agencies get freebies, 50% discounted positive tickets, offers, upgrades etc etc

    get a courier seat

    join an airline

very few people you see going into first class or Business have paid the full whack and a number have paid nothing.

if you think the advice is too boring, or, too expensive, or, you couldn't be bothered, sit down the back, take a sleeping pill, or, get pissed!

Moreover, sometimes the upgrade is more trouble than its worth, the last time I was upgraded some oik sitting next to me spent the early part of the flight jumping over me to get to the aisle and eventually after the meal service, started playing with himself.

    Good luck!!!!!!!!

  5. Have a couple of gorgeous Goldens..boy and girl (not related)..boy pumpummed girl

therefore girl is pregnant and is expecting at January.

if you are still looking then, post again

will only sell to cradle to the grave dog lovers

As it seems coming April he will have 3 litters: http://lannagolds.any.co.th/litters.html

He hasn't updated his website in a while now, I think that's from a couple years back. I have just been round to visit his kennel. He has a litter coming in December. Pups will be 10000~50000 baht and up. Beautiful dogs tho!!

Oops you're right. I only looked at the month and not the year, which is 2551 (2009).

His price for a non-show dog is between 10,000 and 15,000 baht, alright. But at least you know that you get a physical and mental sound bred dog. And that's what I like about Lanna Goldens.

I do think that he is over-vaccinating, though, which can cause mobility problems to the pup among many other problems.

  6. agree, train is better, (Kanchanaburi/bangkok road traffic terribe) if times suit .. cost negligible.

Take the train. There is a tourist train that stops at the cementary, temple and goes across the bridge. It is good fun as far as a tourist activity goes, only down side is that it leaves early 6'ish and you return in the same train around 8 pm. Full day tour.

    Take the weekend train....

    Train Timetable

train03.gif By Rail : Ordinary trains leave Bangkok's Thon Buri Railway Station (Bangkok Noi Station) every day at 7.35 a.m. and 1.45 p.m. for approximately 3 hour journey to Kanchanaburi. Call Thon Buri Railway Station at tel: 0-2411-3102 or Kanchanaburi Railway Station at tel: 0-3456-1052 or visit www.srt.motc.go.th.

The weekend special train leaves Bangkok Railway Station (Hualamphong) at 6.30 a.m. on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. For more information, call : 1690, 0-2223-7010, 0-2223-7020.

  7. try the Banyan Tree roof top restaurant..must be at least 20 stories high..tallest outdoor roof top bar in the world, perhaps.

MUST get there before sundown, sit at the outdoor roof top bar, have a couple of cocktails and watch the sunset with 360 degree view of Bangkok.

Then dine at an outside table.

Cost min Baht 5,000, maybe more, but worth it.

  8. We are now at a stage where piece and quiet need to be purchased at premium prices.

I moved out of town to live in the boons to get away from noise pollution.

However, the fields behind me were occupied and used by people who have no consideration for anybody:Guard dog tied-up in tropical heat barking incessantly 24 hours a day, wood saws going at Concorde decibel levels etc.

When I told my local Thai friends that I complained to the wealthy owner of the property they advised me to desist as a visit in the middle of the night by

people with automatic weapons would not be out of the question.

Recently, people working the place appeared with a digger and tore up my water main and almost tore down my electricity cables.

Fortunately, I spotted them before they did a runner and my wife and I stood there until they fixed it.

I asked my wife to ask a few discreet questions while they were pootering about and guess what? They were squatting on the land and had been for years fighting a rear guard action with the government (and everyone else) about possession. The government, chokedee mak mak, finally won the case and they are gone, but not before one of them took out a neighbouring farmer with a chopper as a parting gesture, necessitating 10 stitches to the head.

Bliss, quiet, peace and joy, Thank God

  9. answer is NO!

I too have lived here for three years, i interact with more Thai women than Farang ones so i guess its only natural to be more interested in them.
  10. legalised to sell crystal meth/yabba/crack etc etc to kids outside school and get them hooked into the bar girl, or, crime scene to maintain their habit so that fat cat scum bag can live the high life??

There has to be some control and will legalisation cut - out the illegal drug distributing entrepreneur who has no compunction about selling to kids, long distance lorry drivers. bus drivers, etc etc????????/

I know that the Swiss legalised and it has reduced heroin use as the kids don't want to be role modelled with the 40/50 year old deadbeats that they see going to government drug centres every week for their fix!!

The Thai government IS doing something about this. Every day I see traffic stopped and vehicle occupants being urine tested for drugs.

Manufacture, distribution and PROFITABILITY is too easy and the people involved, who destroy other people's lives for profit, are criminals, in my opinion and should be treated as such.

However, I do believe that use of drugs should be decriminalised: Just because a kid has been hooked on drugs by some sociopath doesn't make the kid a criminal.

I agree with any legislation that removes profit and opportunity for the criminal distributor. Therefore, at point of origin governments should allow the legal growing of cocaine and opium crop and compensate the grower accordingly i.e. the Third World farmer who relies on these crops just to make a living. However, the crop should be sold only to the pharma industry and not allowed into the hands of criminals.

We have to be careful and not end-up like Mexico, or, Columbia: two countries in almost a constant state of civil war due to the drug situation, where crime bosses are so rich and so deeply embedded in the social, political and business scene that they effectively, run the country.

illegal drugs wouldnt be a problem if they were legalised, just like alcohol and tobacco. In fact I have never seen someone affect by heroin or marijuana get agro, unlike people who are pissed.
  11. perhaps if you add a small carbon filter unit with a tap..that should take care of bacteria..the other elements in your unit should take care of the other nasties in the water before it hits the carbon filter..

incidentally, anybody recommend a retail outlet in Hua Hin where I can buy a small counter top distiller..tried a few places the other day and blank looks all around.

  12. there are a load of muppets with chain saws outside my window driving me absolutely nuts.

Would noise cancelling earphones cut the sound 100%?

What company/models would you recommend for home use.

Can you plug them into your PC like normal earphones, listen to Internet radio and use Skype to converse?

    Thanks in anticipation

  13. Does anybody know anything about noise cancelling earphones?

    1. Do they block out all noise?

    2. Would they E.G. block out power saw noise from neighbouring property 100%?

    3. Can one listen to music/chat from internet at the same time as the product blocks out unwanted noise?

    4. Where can one purchase in Hua Hin area?

    6. Who is best producer of earphones?

    7. Is the BOSE product any good, for example?

Moved to the country/beach to get away from city noise and what a laugh-noisier than in Sukhumvit Soi 4, police box!!!

    Thanks.
