  1. China and regional stability... Is that an oxymoron?
  2. Microwave oven can do wonders to an obsolete SSD. Totally unrecoverable! Spinners are a different story. Some violence might be required if you don't own a powerful electromagnet.
  3. Re: my last append to this topic. I did finish my i9-13900 rig and currently running with Windows 10. If you replace the motherboard, your Windows activation automatically expires. I don't know how I did it, but managed to transfer my Windows activation with Microsoft phone support. All well there. However, the are a few snags! First is the Intel processor, I do a lot on video encoding, and that i9 hits 100 deg within seconds resulting in thermal throttling. I understand that is the same issue with i7-13700. It's basically the same die as i9 but with 8 E-cores disabled. I can remedy the temperature runaway slightly by reducing the processor VCORE by -105mV. The other issue is that the encoders I use (x265, AV1) will only use the E-cores. I have 18 of them running at 4200 MHz, but my last processor had 6/12 C/T clocked at 4300 MHz and was about the same performance, and that was Gen 5 with DDR4 memory. The story has it that Windows 10 doesn't know how to distribute the workload on the new Intel processors, but Windows 11 supposed to be the dogs <deleted> in this area. So, my plan is to image my current drive and upgrade to Windows 11, we'll see how it goes. If I don't like it much in daily use can always restore the Win 10 image. Why did that stupid filter just delete "b o l l o c k s"? It's in the Cambridge Dictionary <deleted>!.
  4. Yes, and just like Kuwait and Palestine, British Colonial Power had a lot of saying in this.
  5. You just made me puke all over the floor....
  6. I would suggest you open a Fixed Account. I did that when I changed from Family to Retirement. Put 1 mill in the account and just leaving it there, puny 0.5% interest, but have 200K THB for emergencies too. Imm seems to like that and you just need a normal statement letter from the bank. No need to deposit and withdraw on the day of application. Just update the passbook. Copy of bankbook still needed, but since there are no transactions only Bring Forward (B/F) if you update you book.
  7. Actually it's 76 virgins and 24 adolescent boys. But you'll have to die a martyr and blow yourself and some others to pieces first.....
  8. "...Labour, he said, accounts for 17.4% of production costs in the agricultural sector, while other costs are incurred by fertilizers and pesticides, adding that some farmers have turned to machinery to reduce the labour cost..." About bloody time Thailand joined the 21st century.
  9. Yes, I remember the fancy pictures from that election. Commie red north and blue central and south. PT only won because the north is the most populous, and because of the populist policies they were shouting out. I suppose 500 baht per vote helped some too. It's easy to appease a poor man, stick a note in his hand and he will suck on anything. Including torching Bangkok for the sake of their version of Democracy!!!! Thaksin also famously said that only those that voted for his party would benefit from his policies. What a leader for a county! And let's not forget that he only got something like 35% of the eligible votes. Hardly a majority.
  10. If was in his position I would do exactly the same. What do you do to a bunch of terrorists that threaten to torch BKK. Red democracy shows how to govern. We didn't win so we will burn you.... You have to admit that he had more balls than any politico, and resigned his post when the Democrat party decided to support the junta, after saying they would not. In fact, he's probably the only one educated in political sciences in Thailand, unlike the rest of bafoons that can only count brown envelopes.
  11. True words are spoken! Been there done that, lost money.....
  12. I've been running Windows 11 in virtual machine for some time now, and so far don't like it much. Why do they insist to change things that work well, interface wise? And there are now rumors that Win11 will have adverts in the next update. However, I'm going to build a new rig this week based on i9-13900, and some sources say that Microsoft has collaborated with Intel and Win11 is tailored to take advantage of the new Intel processor architecture. It's supposed to adjust the workload more efficiently between the P-cores and E-cores. Will have to investigate more, and maybe run some benchmarks before I commit. This is what Intel says: "Intel® Thread Director sends the right workload to the right core at the right time. It helps prioritize and manage the distribution of workloads, sending tasks to the most optimized thread. This feature is on by default and works in tandem with the operating system for intelligent workload distribution. To get the full capabilities of Intel Thread Director, pair a select 13th Gen Intel® Core™ desktop processor with Windows 11."
  13. Hua Hin airport was originally meant for use by Royal Family. What's gonna happen when one Royal decides to visit the Hua Hin Palace? Will the airport close for other operations while the police, security and all the entourage arrive? Years ago, I was almost stuck there while precisely this happened. Fortunately, all passengers for my flight were checked in already, so we took off 30 minutes earlier.
  14. You've gotta be kidding me! This is the most vile concoction ever made by man.... All with fermented fish and crab. I would rather have a McDonald..... Wife is a great fan of this, and sour curries with fermented fish stomach. And they say that Swedish surstömming is terrible.....
  15. Interesting article from CNBC. Germany has shut down its last three nuclear power plants, and some climate scientists are aghast https://www.cnbc.com/2023/04/18/germany-shuts-down-last-nuclear-power-plants-some-scientists-aghast.html
  16. Just two days after Germany shuts down its remaining 3 reactors, Finland brings online its latest nuclear power plant. At 1,600MWe it is Europe largest, and together with the other two plants will supply 40% of the countries electricity. Just when surrounding countries push for "renewables" and start discovering the reality, they will also start buying electricity from outside. Produced mostly by.... eh.... nuclear power. Seems you need to update your figures, placeholder.
  17. Government propaganda. Been there recently and general populace are very unhappy with the current energy situation. When peoples electric bill is higher than the rent, something is very wrong. Of course, the problem was created by the Green Party when they were part of the previous coalition government. Now that the damage is done, it will take long time, and be very expensive to rectify. The official propaganda will not tell you how much expensive electricity they have to import, just to cover the usage. And, like I said, they bring back mothballed reactors and planning for new ones. Please don't include hydro in your renewables. Hydro has been used by Sweden and Norway for decades now, before even the first ever PV panel was manufactured, and before the word "renewables" existed. The best thing about hydro is that it is part of Base energy supply, 24/7, always on, just like oil/gas/coal and nuclear. Unlike your other "renewables". Personally, I'm not against renewable energy sources, but I really hate the wind turbines. They are really fugly and destroy the landscape. Looks better on the sea. Solar is much better, but takes up a lot of space. While a SMR can be deployed on 4,000 square meters, the equivalent solar needs 100-200 times more space.
  18. Yeah, just ask the Swedes that cannot pay their electric bills what they think about your renewables... A very big chunk of the renewable energy in Sweden comes from hydro, which has been used for decades. Also, Sweden has decided to bring back online nuclear reactors that were previously shut down, and is planning to build more. You should get your facts from a more reliable source. Here's the chart for Sweden. Note the percentage of nuclear.
  19. You seem to forget that this is where the most technologically advanced countries are located. Those that actually develop your "green renewable" energy solutions. But, by all means, let's get rid of them and bring back the population of the planet to a more manageable 2 billion. Then we'll not need solar, wind turbines and even nuclear..... just use your wood powered stove to heat during winter.
  20. So actually less wind will generate more electricity... hmm. That would suggest that no wind will generate infinite electricity.... Just like dividing by zero, right.
  21. Perhaps the few million people that live in those regions. Basically anywhere above 60 deg North.
  22. Just to add. When the sun finally shines, it's very low on the horizon and with very low irradiation. Just acknowledge that your "renewable energy" is not a panacea for worlds energy supply. Additionally, with the global warming coming fast, we can expect a much more violent weather. Your turbines will have to be shut down, if they don't blow down. Then you will say, "Oh, I wish we had that Toshiba 4S reactor buried in the ground giving us electricity, drinking water, and hydrogen to power our vehicles."
  23. Hmm, batteries in minus 50 degrees Celsius that last for 6 months, and wind turbines when there is no wind blowing.... Yeah, sure... You're on!
  24. Oh, they would exist if it wasn't for the oil and coal lobbyists in the US. Toshiba 4S 30MWe SMR was ready to be deployed in Alaska several years ago, and then suddenly was stopped by the lobbyists. Then, there is, of course, Akademik Lomonosov. The Russian floating nuclear power station, delivering 35MWe just as I type this. It's deployed in the Arctic, where the sun don't shine for 6 months a year. Would like to see your solar and batteries work there. And more are under way. The problem is not with nuclear power, but the politicians and lobbyists serving their own interests. And the green zealots having their own agenda.
  25. The world of nuclear is changing very rapidly. New reactor technologies are coming online. SMR are the future of nuclear. I'm sure nobody wants to invest in multi TWt nuclear power plants with all the restrictions and regulations. In fact, the biggest showstopper for full deployments of SMR technology, are the government regulations which are focusing primarily on huge TWt NPPs. SMR's can be a size of a shipping container, are fully automated, have passive safety, and do not require onsite human operation. Re-fueling in 30-50 years.
