  1. And therein, for all to see, lies the problem.
  2. In your, it's difficult to know exactly how long as your story changes from time to time but less say, 5 years on and off in Isaan you have clearly know learned anything about local culture. Let the attitude go and try to indulge.
  3. I totally agree. What's wrong with eating cats?
  4. Not so. Not quite sure what you mean as "semi private" but private schools will generally accept students who can pay. Entrance tests for good government schools are tougher. Students who fail government school tests generally will end up at a private school, where money talks.
  5. You said " it happens ALL the time". If that's not making it look commonplace, what is it suggesting?
  6. This topic is applying for a UK passport. Not US. Your post was all three.
  7. I would try the bars/restaurants/cafes in the areas around the University. Thai students tend to love their football. Should be many places with the football on.
  8. Happens all the time? That (one) video? I for 1, another one, have never seen it happen either.
  9. That is a word lost in translation. A word often used in company names of bus companies plying regular routes. The article even says it was a bus on a route from Ubon to Bangkok. The companybrun several routes. Including Phayakaphum Phisai to Bangkok. Check the company website. It's all on there to see.
  10. So, your post was off topic, misleading and unhelpful.
  11. He's talking about a very small part of the town. Udorn is actually quite large, one of the largest in Isaan. Lots to do if you can be bothered to find it. The surrounding areas are very nice too.
  12. Not so easy for non native English speakers.
  13. Neither my wife nor I attended VFS when we applied for our daughter's UK passport. We did it via an agent so we didn't need to make 2 x 750kms round trip. Thai passport is a different matter. Both parents require in attendance, up to the age of the applicant being, I think, 20
  14. It was acted upon quickly as she is one of the enemy. Starmer couldn't believe his luck. Had it been a member of the shadow cabinet things would likely have taken longer.
  15. With the amount of accidents in Thailand each day, with hundreds of injuries and many deaths, it is unlikely all would be covered in the media. Bad reporting anyway. The Bangkok to Ubon/Ubon to Bangkok bus doesn't go anywhere near Phayakaphum Phisai. It goes along Route 24.
  16. That's because if the driver stays, it's not headline news.
  17. Actually, "Ahan Jair" is extremely popular in Buriram. There are festivals every year and many stalls in the Walking Street market every night.
  18. When I first moved to Buriram choices were limited. I tried my own things to get a "taste of home". I remember making salted pork to replicate bacon. Most of it guess work as we didn't gave "Google" in those days. Since the birth of the internet I've become more adventurous. Making my own tomato sauce for pizza, buying a vacuum packer to pack and age beef, setting up a crude version of a smoker, making real bacon, sausages, Indian curries and tortilla.....the list goes on. It's great to be able to do this with "Google" as my friend.
  19. Fresh seafood is one advantage of being in Pattaya. Can't think of many others. ???????? Pizza? I make my own.
  20. Then I cordially invite you to Buriram. We'll go out for dinner every night to a different place. It's going to take a while. Hope you have time on your hands.
  21. 5555. That's funny and far from reality. I've lived in Isaan since 1998. Seen alot of changes. Food choices being one of them. Increase in locals having money another. The pork and chicken in the local wet markets is good quality and affordable to most. That's why I go shopping before 7 am. If much later all sold out. Admittedly, there is an initial shock to the system. I put it down to the fact the pork is so fresh the blood content is high. In UK pigs will be hung for a week. In Thailand they are on the slab within hours. Doesn't take long to toughen your stomach up.
  22. Sakon Nakhon is hardly the heart of Isaan. It's right up in the North East of the region. Isaan food is great. You didn't say what food you are looking for. I guess Western Food. In which case you can add Surin, Sissaket, Nong Khai, Ubon, Buriram, Roiet, Kalasin, Mukdahan to your list.
  23. Then Isaan is for you. A plethora of food choices available. A lot cheaper than the tourist spots and, in most cases, better.
