I'm a well established and very open member who's sharing my current experience and hopefully changing a few views in the process
Not Mine
Run whilst you still can.
I know you have not been here too long and appear to be without funds often but surely you have learnt something??

Just get the FREE 30 day on arrival visa at Bangkok airport as you are from UK. THen go to immigration wherever you are (here) and try for an extension.
TEFL AND a degree is ALMOST a must for teaching these days.
'backpack' style teaching is a possibility is a possibility but NOT with Thai law
there is a site all about teaching which i think is ajaarn.com (ajaarn is teacher in Thai).

not to be confused with Pizza Company and Burger King's ordering hotline, 112
No wonder you never get a pizza delivered if you dial that number
Try 1112

My wife is in her last 6 months of her 25 year contract, and guess what they have done now? They have increased her salary more than double with promises of more after the contact has finished.
I think this is to try and keep her in the job after all the training she has done. Hope she doesn't change her mind and stay there.
What rubbish you speak.
Why is the above unreasonable.
It is exactly the same as it would be anywhere in the world.
Of course the hospital want to keep such a valuable employee! It makes sense.
If you wife wants to do it then it is her choice and the hospital is offering an attraction to stay.
They provided the education for her and have expected and received their repayment.
All seems very fair???
It is just your opinion of a tried and tested system that is the problem not the system itself.
Put yourself in the shoe of the employer!

This is the most ridiculous law, i have just returned from my first trip to thailand, i was shocked to see a complete family on a little scooter, only the driver wearing a helmet, where is the sense in that. ok, i got done, twice for not wearing a helmet, but i did not know the law that the driver should wear the helmet, i was kind enough to let the lady wear the helmet when giving her a lift home in the morning!
The laws are often broken but if you are not sure of a law in any country why not just ask?
Ignorance of them is not a defence here or anywhere else.
Total disrespect of the law is a National pastime

do agree that DRUGS are a bad thing and should be avoid by all, but saying that pot
leads you to heavier drugs is plainly crap!
did someone once say that one drink leads to another?
All this machine does is catch people to fine, presumably someone has to pay for the buying of it!
What we NEED is education in schools and family homes to
AKE EVERYONE aware that all these bad things are NOT good things and the harm that they do to society.
As Ajarn said look what happened to his hometown as an example.
One drink leads to another and another and anothyer and..........

There are more computer shops in CM that customers at the moment.
Pantip Plaza have opened a branch which is filling up with stores . Located at the east end of the Night Bazaar on Chang Klan Road.
Airport Plaza on the South edge of the superhighway has a lot too.
There is also a few dozen in an older place called CM building which is on the North edge of the ring road just to the left of the traffic lights if you are heading to Maerim.
Pretty well everything is here and shopping around you fill find at least one place discounting what you need.
Two days in the shops near the North of the moat? Doing what??? Take food if you try that!

hi jfk here again,
if i get the irish passport sent to me from ireland, leave thailand after my 2 x 60 day visas are used up but take both passports with me when i leave. then enter thailand using my irish passport, get an entry stamp on it and i,m here for another while. then just rotate the passports every six months or so by sending one home and repeating as above.
i have a different address on each passport to avoid detection. what do you think ?
As long as the passport shows IN OUT IN IUT IN OUT no big deal.
Visas applied for whilst IN will catch up with you
Would not recommend doing it on a day trip either!

Just caught the Silly Fools live in BKK last week, excellent show!
Just a bit loud
Got a t-shirt personally autographed by the lead guy

If a visa is put into a passport for entry into Thailand and then there is NO entry stamp in that same passport you will end up in trouble if you try to leave.
-
I agree with you there, but either way it would kill the tourism economy, which aren't just hotels, if word spread around they were blocking people from entering.
You agree then make a mad statement too.
TOURISTS that spend money TOURING and staing in different countries on their annual holidays DO NOT go in and out of Thailand or anywhere else 6-10 times in a row. They work in real jobs back home to get money to go on holiday with!@!
Pretty well every country likes those guys.
What Thailand appears to be saying is TOURISTS will be granted visas on entry.
Perpetual tourists are NOT Tourists and should choose>>
A. Apply for the correct visa
B. Stay away.
Is that not correct
Rainman. Since you came here you face has changed a lot? Does the sun make it do that?

after which everything was ok again. But will i keep spending my money in the US? Not unless i have to ...and then they wondered why foreigners spending money in the US dropped so much. What if Thailand did that? I'm sure they know better than to block foreigners from spending money and boosting their economy.
Maybe it is not ALL about money

The German Brewery behind Carrefour if there's a good band on.
Fine Thanks in Nimanheman Road.
The Sayuri Coffee Shop,(Seriously no need to see the fish bowl) good show.
The Brasserie.
Mad Dogs if you just want a beer.
The Mai Ping beer garden.
Bars at the back of the Night Market. You can see who's going into the gay bar across the road
Lamphun
strange choices:-)
German Brewery has the SAME band every time but the beer is best in Thailand.
Fine THanks. Bangkok pricing but pleasant.
Sayuri. Show!!!!!!!
Brasserie after midnight if Took is on.
Mai Ping Beer Garden...Serious!!!
Thought the poster was after quiet:-)

maybe not all farangs in thailand are trash.
I am sure that is the case.
There are many 000's that are fine and a few bad but they are the ones that the newspaper write about
it is the same the world over?
-
Thanks for the recomendations.
Will try the two based in Chiang Mai. My wife is now complaining about me going to Thailand by myself to finalise this deal. She does not trust me alone. Do you think it wil be possible to do this deal via email and fax? I have already seen the land and the people we are buying from are family.
Chris
Think you would be well advised to be here.
Maybe be legally required but not 100% on that one.
If you wife does not trust you that is another issue

I would say that apart from a few bars around the night market and opoosite the MANGO TREE - plug the kind of bar described above is very hard to find. No tourist would just bump into Sayuri!! That guy was looking and happily found.
Try any one of the other 5000+ bars ranging from a roadside table to High Tech discos and EVERYTHING in between.
It is true to say that most visitors come to see the abundance of superb sites during the day but thaere are MANY 'normal' places to enjoy a drink in the evening. A few named here.
Start by going to the main area and picking up a few guide magazines. On the way to the advertisers you will finfd more and more.
Have fun

Hi
If you take the 10 bus it will go to that housing estate.
Take your swimming trunks and go for a swim at the end of the line?
Or come visit for a plate of noodles and tea. Mixed culture thing:-)
If you have the time it is worth staying on as you say only 10 bahts and you can see a little of outside CMai.
have fun

Certain perverted Thai logic here.
Now we all have to go shopping at the same time and get caught in the same traffic jam.
Well done, Thaksin
When do you go shopping at midnight?
Another silly post

made it that little bit harder for every other farang in Thailand.
You should be deported back to wherever you came from. Thailand already has enough problems of it's own. It doesn't need idiot outsiders coming and stirring the pot even more.
You don't deserve to be allowed into Thailand.
missed some of the quote i think by Samran.
This has to be the craziest post i have ever read on this forum and coming from a part Thai too.
In defense of any foreigner living in Thailand i do not think that they invented the 'rules' that Thai poloice applied just trying to blend in with the locals? as many Thais appreciate.
Riding my little Honda about towm with helmet and all the papers a HUGE bike ridden by a Thai pulled up along my side.
Looked about 100kph just sitting there. NO number plate so i asked the rider if this was not a problem and why he did not have any registration?
"Too expensive" were his words as he went off with one wheel in the air.
Rider was a Thai Man by the way
