  1. The non immigrant visa is normally only issued in single or multi entry versions (although a few Consulates will issue a two entry at double the price of single). Not good value for most at 4k baht because a multi valid for a year and usable for stay of almost 15 months is 5k baht. I would highly advise using Perth/Brisbane to obtain the multi entry - that allows unlimited entries of up to 90 days for one year from date of issue.

Thanks for that I will stop off in Perth on my next trip its a pity Melbourne wouldn't issue the same.

  2. A Multi Entry Non Immigrant Visa valid for 12 months. Reason to Visit friends. Do the last border run just before it expires and you get another 90 days making a total of 15 months. The Consulate in Perth seems to be the favourite place to apply. You would not get another one with the immediate area so you would have to go back to Australia to get another one when it expires.

There is no guarantee this would be possible indefinitely as things can and do change.

With an online business you would legally need a Work Permit that is problematic to get.

You would not find it easy to get a part time job that gives you a work permit. There are not many jobs that are open to non Thai,s.

I get a multi entry but it is only a double entry 6 months where i do a border run on the first entry and back to Aus on my second.

The Thai embassy in Melbourne wont issue a 4 entry , are you sure that four entry is available ?

  3. I am looking for a ride departing central Bangkok on Fri. July 3. I would want to meet from 4:00 - 5:00 p.m., depending on our meeting point, with the objective of arriving in South Pattaya at 7:00 p.m. I am willing to share the gasoline cost. Please send me a Private Mail, with details as to how I can contact you.

You might be better off trying to find someone who wishes to share a taxi (and the fare). You're unlikely to find a car owner willing to arrange to meet you and run you to Pattaya for a contribution towards the petrol money

any chance you can post that again

  4. As far as I understand there are now factory unlocked not jailbroken iphone 3GS in MBK but the price for a 32gb is 42000 baht

Not that I am particularly doubting you cos at that price they should be but 1) where did they come from 2) what makes you feel they are fully unlocked and 3) which shop if you happen to remember (simply on the basis that I would believe various and not others).

Its not unusual for MBK to have factory unlocked iphones they are grey market , If you walk around MBK where all the phones are and the opposite end to power mall you will see some shops showing the 3Gs I asked a couple and was told they were available but i did not go any further after they told me the price.

Each time I asked the shop owners got on there cell phone to check somewhere I am sorry I dont remember the shops name but also a lot of shops never had them.

As I said earlier a unlocked 3GS in Australia is 27500 baht from vodaphone I will wait till i get one from there and save 15000 baht

  5. As far as I know the jailbreak for the 3GS isn't out yet. The dev team is evidently not releasing it yet for reasons stated at their blog....

    http://blog.iphone-dev.org/

So you could be in for a wait unless there is some other source for a jailbreak that I am unaware of.

Yes thanks... that would certainly seem to be correct from a quick search of the internet. Does anyone know if the ones being sold in MBK are being sold unlocked and jailbroken or simply unlocked? Jailbroken means with Cydia and Cydia Apps.

BTW is the Bt35,000 starting price for the 16GB or the 32GB? And are they available in 32GB?

As far as I understand there are now factory unlocked not jailbroken iphone 3GS in MBK but the price for a 32gb is 42000 baht

  6. Ya it has always been like that here. They buy the Iphone for the price you listed (27k) then sell it to make a profit so jack the price way up. They are not buying it for cheaper and able to sell for 27k. They buy it like any customer. Once it is officially released by True the price will drop.

Well I think it's worth waiting a few weeks to get the true price .

  7. People are confusing the Iphone 3Gs with the plural of the Iphone 3G (3G's). 3Gs is the new tech and much more expensive than the 3G.

Not right , I am talking about 3GS newest iphone that was realaesed this month

A 32gig in australia unlocked is 27500 baht

MBK Quotes have been given of 55000 49000 and the lowest I got was 42000 a huge difference from 27000 for the same item.

  8. Okay here is more info for you from Hong kong

    http://www.iphonealley.com/news/apple-sell...gs-in-hong-kong

I was getting excited there for a moment, but the article is actually from 2008, and they are talking about the iPhone 3G in the plural, which they call "iPhone 3Gs". It's not the iPhone 3GS.

Somebody said in another thread that Vodafone Australia is offering the 3GS unlocked. Wouldn't be surprised if they make it over here rather soon.... then again 3GS stock is said to be limited, they are selling too many and making too few...

    http://hongkongphooey.wordpress.com/2009/0...d-in-hong-kong/

[updated: 24 June 2009] Two days, what a difference it made. With the influx of imported iPhone 3GS, the prices dropped drastically today. The 16GB version of iPhone 3GS is faring HK$5,500 (US$705) whilst the 32GB at HK$6,800 (US872).

    iPhone 3Gs available in MBK

Thats right people, the iPhone 3G has made its way to MBK, its the hong kong version but still needs to be unlocked. The price for the 16gb iPhone ranges between 35,000 to 55,000 baht. Both white and black versions are available, no 8gigers yet. They have a yessim unlock, this means that they will work even after a firmware update. Not many shops have them yet, you may have to do some digging around to get your hand on them.

Why do you think the prices are so high in mbk they are 14 to 20000 baht more

  9. Also happened me one night a couple of years ago three girls got on one a older lady one girl sat next to me and sat a bag over her leg and my leg I knew what she was up to and stared at her and while getting my phone to make a call they then got off.

It is very common there in Pattaya several groups doing it on a daily basis I pity the tourists It's a pity there is not anything in place like a brouchure advising people of theses scams but I think the brochure would need to be the size of a book.

  10. Being a competative type of person that I am and knowing that a few thai visa members have already taken the amazing and dangerous challenge of entering the central shopping complex on beach road I decided it was my turn to step up.

After taking into consideration all the risks associated with the building and that the chances of survival were not good according to many experts today with my hard hat in hand , survival pack and GPS I entered the building.

After being as cautious as possible I made it to swensons ice cream shop where I was rewarded with the special of the day the chocalate tremor.

The adrenillan rush that I had was unbelievable getting as far as this shop.

The last time I felt better than that was when I spent the night with Angelina Jolie

Anyway after finishing my Chocalate Tremor I made my way back through the building knowing that at any minute it may collapse and out the front door.

I am happy to anounce that I survived Central.

    Well done!

Now how about taking it to the next step?

A full dinner followed by some shopping or the movies. If you have a car or motorbike, be sure to park it in the basement so you can check out the added column/floor supports.

This should fire up the adrenaline and take your experience to a whole new level.

Yes i will take the next step but not until I undergo some intense training programme a trip to the basement takes this challange to a whole new level

  11. Saint,

Fair coment about the cage and balls ect, but sometimes the W/bearing surfaces of the CV joint will get rusted together on older cars, so a press is needed to push out the CV joint, and depending on what type of bearing is used, will very often push-out the center races of both bearings, hence the need to replace bearings.

Yes, we are talking Thai mechanics here, but really its the same all over the world, take your car to a Quik-Fit center for an exhaust box and suddenly it needs 4 new shockers and 2 tyres, and the gullible will agree and pay, Those of use blessed with mechanial knowledge can and will save ourselves a lot of money!!

    Lickey

I agree with you about bearings can rust on the shaft and then you need to replace them but it is a very low percentage no more than 2% would need the driveshaft and wheel bearings replacing at the same time

A driveshaft will only last as long as the rubber boot on it will last and many driveshafts fail in cars under 200,000 klm.

  13. The thread must be a little confusing to those with little mechanical knowledge!

Two areas are of concern, the first being the wheel bearing which supports the mass of the rotating components at the hub - the drive shaft, wheel and brake rotor. And the drive shaft itself which transmits torque from the gearbox/engine to move the vehicle.

It does not naturally follow that a wheel bearing is faulty if the driveshaft is faulty. And vis versa. But in this case it does as the OP said so.

Dattos pix is of a typical CV shaft with the one retaining clip. In most cases a good clean out, new balls, new grease and a new boot are all you need. The balls will always go before the housing which is super high tensile steel. So in the end we have a reco driveshaft as supplied.

I totally disagree with you about that by replacing the balls and boot and grease will fix it , the noise of a driveshaft is caused through the metal in the bearing cage being worn away and the noise is of the bearing running in and out of the worn area .

Ninety percent of driveshafts fail due to the rubber boot breaking and the grease drying up after that the bearing stuffs up due to running dry.

Also the bearing tracks in the housing are very prone to breaking through the hard casing which is irrepairable.

When a driveshaft is reconditioned the cage and bearings are always replaced with oversize pieces and if the outer housing has the hard casing broken inside it is a throw away and a new outer is replaced.

Also as I said in another post the shop charging him for wheel bearings does not sound right I doubt that they would have needed replacing wheel bearings and the driveshaft at the same time driveshafts outlast wheel bearings by years.

Putting just balls and grease back in to worn areas wont fix it .

TWO men have been found guilty of involvement in a sex slave scheme in Melbourne brothels.

The scheme saw Thai women providing sex for up 750 men in exchange for their passage to Australia.

One man, who could not be identified for legal reasons, was found guilty on five counts of possessing a slave and four counts of structuring cash transactions to avoid financial disclosure laws.

The Melbourne Supreme Court jury was unable to reach a verdict on two counts.

A second man was found guilty on four counts of possessing a slave and one count of structuring cash.

He was acquitted of four counts of using a slave and found not guilty of entering into a commercial transaction involving a slave.

Chee Fui Hoo, 42, was not guilty on one count of using a slave and there was no verdict on two other charges.

Slamet Edy Rahardjo, 53, was not guilty on one charge.
