Disagree on what? That there would be a lot of children (and adults and pets) alive today if sensors or reverse cameras were fitted to all vehicles? Are you really going to argue the point that a pickup and probably SUV's as well have limited rear visibility? Perhaps the rest of the world doesn't have the skills and awareness that you profess to have and we actually find these aids useful. BTW, putting sensors on the corners of the bumper may well be useful, but that's not where I seem to have lack of coverage, it's in the centre.

I'm sure Warpy is only speaking from his own experience in saloons and hatchbacks. If driving a pickup or SUV, the level of 'awareness' you'd need would be on a psychic level tongue.png

^So not true, have driven my own race transports forever and still do, never had a back up cam or sensors and never backed into anything. I guess I'm just lucky towing a 45 ft trailer with a 15 foot professionally converted box truck. Have a lifted V8 Dodge Ram 1500 sport pick up in my drive right now, not a sensor or cam on it and still amazingly I manage not to back into anything and though it's a smallish pick up for the states, it's still twice the size of anything available in Thailand, so I guess you're right, only saloons and hatchbacks rolleyes.gifcoffee1.gif .. FYI my line of business also required driving pickups and various other large trucks for the last, oh, 35 years but other then that have never driven a pick up before coffee1.gif.. Silly me.. BTW did I mention having a 27 year safe driving record? BTW nice that I can try to diplomatically walk away from an argument and still get poked at until I have no choice but to respond in kind..

  2. Yes they are, actually same drive train and chassis package as most VW Polo's with Spanish accents and styling at lower cost. Often overlooked even by me, I was not familiar with the brand being in Thailand since we don't have them in the states. It took me a while to discover them, I wanted a VW Golf but all of the available packages were quite expensive and near on impossible to find one with a manual, these cars have virtually the same drive train but on a slightly smaller & lighter chassis.

  3. Just did this yesterday in Korat. Seller, Farang, had to have immigration resident letter. Having said that, must also say that seller signed a "power of attorney", and did not show up in person. Last year I bought a motorcycle in Nong Khai. Seller Farang went with me to office and did not need letter, only passport. I needed letter from immigration.

I know of two "farangs" who have Thai citizenship and do not need any such letter to sell their vehicles

Seems like you and the op are full of bs. Perhaps you mean "non-Thai nationals need the letter???

A Farang with Thai citizenship is an exception not the norm, typically it is considered the Farang does not have citizenship so pull your head in and stop being an A-Hole.

but if you want to play the pedant game Farangs who have work permits also are not required to have a residence letter in their possession.

Wow! You forced me to give you a thumbs up, usually you're the one making comments like that. coffee1.gif

  4. Giddyup, as promised here are some pics of my sensor and camera setup.

The 2 sensors that you have already, I find that they are sensitive enough to

pickup any obstacle in between them because of the fan shape coverage of the sensor.

The 2 outside sensors are great for ie..gate posts or any obstacle to the side/rear of the truck.

As you probably have, there is a bleep and coloured bar indicator that sits on the dash board next to the A post.

    attachicon.gifP1000624.JPG attachicon.gifP1000631.JPG

The camera is the best addition as you get a better perspective of what behind you, and obviously make a better

judgement of the distance to the obstacle behind you.

When I got my Triton I drove straight away to the car accessory shop and had both fitted for I think under 2,000 Baht.

I also had them fit a car cam that I had bought myself a couple of weeks before and day running lights to the front grille.

    attachicon.gifP1000634.JPG

If you get a camera, don’t let them fit it on the tail gate like the new model Triton…

I think it looks bloody awful and will eventually get damaged..just my opinion.

    Good Luck.

PS. Looking at the pics I think it’s a trip to car care today for a spring clean.

And that's not half a bra across the number plate, its a face mask....5555

    Have a Nice Day.

Yes and not surprisingly the added 2 sensors are where I suggested they should go coffee1.gif ..

  5. It may be the same bumper, still unusual.. Ok so whatever, I personally dislike sensors terribly and have no issues with my vehicle parameters without them so can't relate. I feel the sensors make people too reliant on them like some other vehicle technologies so people tend to become complacent and lose their own natural skills and the sensors are far from perfect as you've apparently found out.. Maybe a camera is the ultimate solution in your case.

The sensors are near enough perfect and reliable if they are installed correctly, as they were on my Isuzu D Max. When It's nigh impossible to see close to the rear of a pickup or a SUV for that matter, no matter how good your "skills" are sensors or a reverse camera are invaluable, nothing to do with being complacent. I drove sedans most of my life and never thought about reverse sensors, pickups are a different story.

All my cars have both sensors and cameras. I'd be at least 3 dogs down now without both systems.

There would be a lot of small children alive today if all cars, SUV's and pickups had them installed.

Uhuh.... Sorry were going to have agree to disagree on this one, I figured it'd be taken out of context and unnecessarily defensively but fact of the matter it does have to do with skills and awareness. No need to be defensive though that is a product of age for many.

Where's the down side? There's too many stray dogs in Thailand anyway.. coffee1.gif

  8. My SEAT Cordoba had over 300,000Km on it with Lp (don't know how long the lp was on it before I got it and I owned for 2 years) and ran perfectly, had the usual upkeep of timing belts etc. but nothing serious and to my knowledge it is still running strong at least 2 years and 2 owners since selling it.

  9. Giddy Up I'm not getting it? Can you post a full pic of the rear bumper? I can't see why it isn't possible to install more then 2 and only where those 2 are located? BTW someone laid a towel over your tag too, better take that off before you have to pay some tea money whistling.gif ..

You can see where the bumper protrudes with the two bumps that it's really the only place to install the sensors.

Ok so while that's a very unusual style bumper, I can't see why they can't install additional sensors? On the corners for example, did they give a realistic reason other then the usual? I.E. it is an operational issue or ? Just because they aren't the furthest point from the truck doesn't mean they can't be installed and then you can approximate according to sound your distance from a given object. It would be something you'd have to adjust to but not so difficult or different then any other driving adjustments you may make on a given day or with a given vehicle.

  10. If there is that much additional heat then the cooling system is below par.

I drove a V6 Ford Granada for around 250,000 miles for work, during it's life I had the cast iron heads skimmed once cos gasket failure on one bank, and replaced one head cos of crack between valves.

Crappy company you worked for - I've never had a company car go past 60,000 KM's on the clock before getting a new one tongue.png

  11. Don ..may I suggest that you visit and stay in another forum as it is obvious you know little or even <deleted> all about the subjects discussed here. That is not a problem in itself... it you want to learn then please read and try and comprehend and ask if you can't.

    Please don't make statments/comments that are incorrect/worthless.

Some make very valid observations here ... lets keep this forum trol less enjoy the rest of your day.

    Well stated JAS....

  12. Bullshit. Whilst LPG cars do have a slightly higher CHT it is nothing near what would be required to warp the head.

So if you're so smart why ask the question? I said nothing about it being hot enough to warp the head so I guess the problem is more with your comprehension Megadon, so you're the one talking BS as per usual.. You're clueless about why LP would be a problem and now suddenly you know everything? rolleyes.gifcoffee1.gif So typical.. Hmm, I see now why you were unable to understand as you think only in absolute terms, there are different grades of warping you know? Call them distortions if that suits your intellect better? The entire head can warp at higher temps as happens when running dry but even still those temps are not really any hotter then the head can get at contact points within the combustion chamber where the head and block meet and yet the head warps even with it being heavily torqued down.

So how does the genius who never answers with comprehensive explanations only rudely strikes down and challenges others factual explanations think that a head can warp at temps actually in most cases lower then is seen in the combustion chamber in smaller areas like the thin spaces between combustion and water chambers? We anxiously await your explanation to us lower life forms, oh wise one!

  13. Why would gas (I assume LPG or whatever the new flavour is) place any extra stress on an engine/head gasket..... not as though you have raised th compression ratio or anything.

LP runs hotter, more heat at the top end than regular gasoline (benzine or whatever the flavor of the day is)? Especially between head and combustion chamber can warp the head and burn away a conventional gasket just enough, not that there is any different gaskets made exclusively for LP applications necessarily though, some higher quality gaskets are less likely to be a problem and can withstand a bit more exposure if the head ever so slightly warps..

  14. Warpee ... reminding people of that fact is useful ... thanks ... but it's pretty standard practice to put an alloy head on a lapping plate every time the head is taken off .. they warp (no pun intended) pretty easy... well on an old motor anyway. It's been running really lovely for many hundred Kms now and not a drop of water used. And it's gassed, as the pic shows, so gets a few extra stresses!!

The car is a 1995 Mazda Lantis (1.8) and was gassed around 2007 ... valves and seats were fine surprisingly ..... they were just lapped ...was my wife's car from new and now step-daughter abuses it.

Yes ... replace the cap .............................................. before you look anywhere else!

I mostly agree, but we all know............At least those of us who are paying attention, that nothing is "standard practice" in Thailand, especially when it comes to auto's and maintenance of them and can't be taken for granted that they'll be repaired properly. I went to several machine shops for various work done and one in particular (near home as it turned out after I asked many locals of where to find one, but ended up locating it myself) was a large, well equipped shop and very busy. I asked them to clean and bead blast the head off of my Toyota Crown before rebuilding it and they said they had no boiling tank or bead blaster? I was astounded, as cleaning tanks and bead blasters are first priority in most top machines shops I know of. It's like doing surgery without sterilizing the patient or washing your hands first and you can not do a proper inspection on a head without first cleaning as well. While the work was done well outside of that, I took the filthy assembled head home, broke it down, used oven cleaner to clean it properly, took it to get it bead blasted, (found a place again not too far from my home, BTW found both of these places in the English version Thai yellow pages which you can request a copy of) brought it back and clear coated it then re-assembled a brand new looking head and valve cover. BTW The valve cover gasket could not be located anywhere, so I had to hand make a new one, fortunately the head gasket was located.

Besides age the main reason I had to redo the head was because the rear spark plug hole had been stripped out and was poorly repaired with a thread insert. The reason it got stripped out is because in a previous life, a clever Thai mechanic had dead ended a coolant hose on the back of head he figured wasn't necessary but it was a straight 6 so it turned out to be a return hose to the rad from the back of the head so the car was overheating the back of the head every time it ran and there was no way to know it, except the valves would start to tighten up and tap from overheating and that was my best indicator there was a problem. It had been getting so hot apparently it also distorted (warped, pun intended) the threads in that cylinder and that was what ruined them and how I found it, was I had misfire and was checking the plugs and half the thread insert came out bonded to the plug and the threads that held it place on the head were all buggered from heat. I was checking the plugs because the car had a misfire and nothing else was showing up as it turns out the misfire was actually compression loss from this cylinder leaking around the poorly repaired spark plug hole.

  15. So I left home looking for a used truck and discovered the prices on some low millage 2012 & 13 model Mazda, D Max & Vigo were more than half what a new truck cost. I was thinking I would finance but the dealer cut 25,000 of the price for cash sale. So I bought a 2014 Vigo in my name. No problems at all.

Thanks for all the advice. I'm happy with the purchase. I got a good deal but went to an after market stereo shop instead of paying 40,000 for the top end model from the dealer. I got the stereo I wanted with reverse camera and forward camera included with CD, DVD, Blue Tooth, and remote for 17,000.

Now, how do I jazz it up a bit so I can tell the difference in the parking lot?

Put a tennis ball or Buddha amulet on the antenna...................................................... Second thought maybe not the Buddha.....................A group of flowers instead maybe? Anyway congrats on your new Toy...
