So true When they start to stalk me even if I am interested in something I just walk away and leave the area

Stalking turns me right off I dont want to ask any question because I feel I am committed to buying it

This should not be the case and as far as knowledge is concerned I wanted to buy a microwave and started to look at the different ones

GUess what They know nothing about them other then turn on and off  I speak Thai and asked about the power rating on one of them

    They did not know

If you are going to have sales people train them to know the produces

You are only hurting yourself. Why would you do that?

Up here in M.Buriram, we have IQ, Thai Watsadu, Global, Home Pro, Homemaker, and many others that I cannot remember. Too many stores all flogging the same stuff. How the hell any of them make a profit is unknown. At most of them, the sales stalkers outnumber the customers by a long way.

Anyway ..... we also have one very large independently owned non aligned hardware store that totally outshines all the biggies. To compete with the bigger franchise opposition, this store has several fantastic aces up their sleeve.

1 - The owner is very hands on in the store. He has endless product promotions with scantily clad lasses, workshop demos,  free car washes, family days etc etc, all very well advertised in the community. These events are a lot of fun and draw big crowds of locals and expats.

2 - He's also a very savvy owner. To tap into the large expat English speaking customer base, he has permanently employed an American as a floor walker. All legit. As soon as a farang walks through the door, the American guy magically appears and offers his assistance. His product knowledge is superb, and you never leave the store without your intended purchase. It's brilliant in every way. Only store I've ever experienced this.

For many of us farangs in Buriram, this independent store is our first and only stop when sourcing anything hardware related.

Many stores have the dedicated English speaker who is reasonably knowledgable.I usually buy them coffee and have a chat.Gives them a break.Just tell the boss we were talking shop.

The problem with most of these buffoons working as sales in Thailand  is that they have no product knowledge of the products they are selling. Ask them questions and they do not know! I speak fluent thai when asking them mind you and not even English! Normally I when they cannot answer, I will rudely tell them to bugger off and go read the product manuals of the items they are trying to sell. Worst are the sales girls at  dept stores....do you ahve this size....no have(they did not even check!)

They don't have to check, they know already.Hours upon hours staring at the product, you don't think they know what they have. They don't get paid enough to learn anything. And wouldn't get more if they did.

I understand your reasoning but at what point do people take the responsibility for their own actions?  Do you think it is OK for people to come here and expect free medical care when Thailand hasn't the infrastructure of countries like England or Australis etc.  The first thing you have to show to get into Aus is that you will not be a burden on the free medical system.  NONE of these people have or will pay tax here!  My medical insurance costs me $500US a month, and that is my choice, and it doesn't cover me for pre existing conditions either...

Not quite true. They ask you on the visa application form are you going to visit an Aust.hospital, but there is no requirement on getting insurance, medical or otherwise.

Why even talk about settlement?  If you really value someone's life why not talk to lawyers on how justice can be served in order to prevent the same negligence over and over.   You may be helping many other lives from ending so sadly in doing so or at least if your daughter/wife is looking down at you, she will be at peace that you loved her enough not to let greed overcome what is the right thing to do.

Thais do not look at it this way. They see somebody go to jail but no compensation goes to them, maybe even cost money to lawyer up.I like the USA model.Jail and then go for cival action, could be millions of dollars.Ask OJ.Yes money should go to hubby but unlikely.TIT.If i was hubby i would be asking what she was doing at foam party in the 1st place.

Really sorry that your shipment came by DHL. We do a lot of small shipments of electronics from USA and UK, but mostly from USA. From my experience over the past couple of years, I can tell you that DHL is almost always a complete and total pain the backside when it comes to their clearance procedures.

Just last week, I ordered something from USA, for our business and to our business address. I ended up paying the all-in charge for shipping and clearance services, including duties. This is the Global Shipping Service that Suradit mentioned above. Unfortunately, some shippers require this, but I didn't find it to be much more expensive that shipping + duties and VAT.

After arriving at BKK, we had to send two different stacks of paperwork over to DHL and they even wanted my original passport, which of course I refused to send to them as they said they needed it for two days! They also mentioned additional fees, although I had a receipt from the vendor and the global shipping service clearly stating that all fees were prepaid. One week and about fifty pieces of signed paper later, they delivered.  This is not the first time we have had major bureaucratic delays with DHL.

With Fedex for exactly the same type and value of product, we receive a notification by email, sign one piece of paper and email it back and our package is delivered the next day. That also states the amount of duty and VAT. If we need to pay those, their delivery person collects it we have our package.

Maybe I have just had bad luck with DHL, but I always avoid them if at all possible.

I admit i don't know much about this but can you inform your suppliers that if DHL are used you will not accept the goods.Get DHL on some sort of blacklist.

Customs has been scrutinizing every package lately.

HiMedia sent me a Q10 for evaluation via DHL. DHL called me and said they wanted 3000 baht. They said customs valued the TV Box at 6000 THB and charged 1000B penalty for undervaluing the item.

I told DHL that there is no duty on a TV box  and I did not value the item, the sender did.

I was told they still wanted 2000 THB for customs and VAT + the 1000 THB penalty.

I told them to send the item back to the sender.

I contacted HiMedia and they sent another Q10 via the post. Customs charged me 580 THB for the second unit.

I was sent a Zidoo X9S which is cheaper than the Q10. It was sent via the post and was charged 728 THB

I received 2 Minix wireless keyboards they went right through. No duty no VAT.

I have a Z28 in route. This is a 2000 THB unit that should arrive tomorrow.  I am waiting to see what customs will do with this one.

Bottomline, I think customs is looking at every package that has a falang name on it.

Your last sentence coukd be an urban myth, but we will never know. That's why the missus name goes on it,no probs so far.

That is correct... go home get an OA non immigrant visa... multi entry..  at the end of first year do a border run before the visa runs out and get another year (no entries.. you have to buy one if you want to make a trip in the 2nd year)..  I have been doing this for years... no money in Thailand..  or.. you can get an extension if your income (pension) is at least 60,000 Bt.... 40,0000 if you are married..

You don't have to get a multi when you get the OA.Just a single before you go out.

It's the damn city slickers. They want to live at one with nature in the bucolic countryside, but only after nature is denatured, sanitized, rendered sterile or eradicated. Throwing a hissy fit over a couple of chickens is ridiculous.

Maybe best to just pave it all with green colored concrete and stick in some plastic flora and fauna.

It would be easier to clean up after them.

A real good one. In a country where people need a calculator to subtract 20 baht from 100 baht, it's almost impossible that a Thai gf who went through such a great education be successful in running such a business.

Even the noodle soup vendors have no idea if they make plus, or lose money until it's too late.

I'd even raise your number from 99 % to 99.9%.

I know an educated tech go bankraupt, owing 2  million baht, because he never did the paperwork.
