Probably family of the gf. But you are right, why not get a Tak taxi to drive you and if he is tired on the way back then at least you are not in the cab.
If I was the farang I would have insisted on a local taxi. That's the problem when you let the tgf make all the arrangements.I had to drive a taxi once because the driver was pissed. He directed me out of Bangkok and then went to sleep.

I was contemplating driving from Koh Samui to Kukhan in november. I have never driven this far in Thailand before. But after reading some of these posts i am beginning to fear the journey. Would it be safer to drive at night or during the day.
Day for sure and break the trip up.

I have driven long distances in Thailand and its worth the price of a small can of coffee, or one of those caffeine based sport drinks to stay awake. 10 or 12 baht can safe your life and others. Always works for me. I recommend one every 4 hours and a 30 minute break.
It's a cheap life saver. R_d B_ll , M_50 etc not sure were allowed to name them, but I'm sure you know which one's I mean. You only get one life buy the taxi driver one, it might save yours.
I get the 7/11 coffee without the ice plus a can of coffee, keeps me ticking over.

Good idea, love it.We can disband the Royal Toy Police, with immediate effect. And at the same time we can ask all the criminals to not commit any crimes while we do it. I'm with you! when can we start?
What are you going to do about thousands of angry men with guns and no money, probably in debt.Easy to say,a lot harder to implement.

Just look for a long queue of whining farangs.Very early in the morning is the best time,i have been told.

I have a car and 2 scooters and needed the certificate each time to put them in my name.
So far Ive paid , 300 , nothing and 1000 for it.
The 'nothing' was when there was a big outcry and the boss of Phuket immigration came out and said it should be free and policed that.
1000 was after he was transferred.
I believe its 500 at Patong and perhaps free at Phuket Town at present.
Suggesting another branch to the OP is good advice.
The only short coming with a far off 'branch' I have found , is when I need a letter to extend my Retirement Visa , and the letter from the Bank about having deposited 800,000 baht has to be acquired from that Branch only.
Heaven help anyone who banks with K-Bank and transfers across the country without closing their bank account before moving.
My K-Bank refuses to close any account without me physically present at the accounts Branch to do so.
As usual things vary between officers.I can get my letter from my local bank or the one opposite Immigration.

Just saw on Bangkok Post that this taxi driver had served a prison term for rape and was recently released.
Dear me,that's not good.People that let him drive a taxi should be held responsible as well,or is that asking too much.I presume convicted rapists are banned from some jobs where they could come into contact with women on a one on one basis.

The authorities said they were going to do something to protect
passengers in taxis,I suggested every cab should have a taser in
the back (jokingly),i think they were going to make cabs install
a panic button, either way, they need to do something quick and
take control of these taxi drivers.Thailand always worried about
its reputation, these are the first people tourists meet when they
leave the airports, not all are bad, just get rid of the bad ones.

Trouble is,you don't know the bad ones until they go rogue.Women get a hard life,i'm glad i was born a bloke.

Once again, Thailand very publicly states their totally misplaced priorities. The fact that there is a human victim here doesn't even get acknowledged. How about, "The crime he committed was an appalling and violent attack on a young woman, a disgusting violation of a guest who was visiting our country."
Just shows their priorities, tourism 1st,countries reputation 2nd and victim a sad 3rd,maybe equal with taxi driver cos he was drunk. The police really need a western media man to vet their statements, they get it wrong so many times or is this just a reporters slant on it.Most people on this forum could word their statements in a bettef way, even if they don't mean it.Note to self, job opportunity.

Are you sure i always was taught that people from the UK were true gentleman.. one on one ...and marquis de queens-berry rules.
Though I have also heard that the Brits were the worst hooligans on the planet.. so should I say all Brits are.... kinda like all Thai males are...
Dutch smoke a lot of pot.. so all Dutch are potheads (i have smoked it).. its so easy to label people..
Americans have so many gun murders and guns that its easy to all label them
Its just so easy to bash Thais based on news articles because all the negative things come out, combine that with our resentment of immigration rules and cultural shock.. and maybe not happy in other ways.. and bashing Thais is an easy thing to do..
I just wonder if people are so unhappy why they don't leave.
The are stuck here.Sold up everything to go live the dream. Now they are assett rich but cash poor due to exchange rate. Can't sell the house/condo for what they paid for it and council flat is all that awaits them back home.Cant eat Tbai food so food is expensive.Depressed so self medication with excess beer drinking which makes the situation worse.Spouse not exactly as she seemed in the dating years.

1. I have lived in Lincoln. An autumn leaf falling is loud there.
2. A party in Hua Hin! Wow. Something to wake the dead - count me in.
On a serious note though, if these are more than twice a year I have sympathy for your problem. I endured three years of parties with duff duff music two or three times every week. I eventually got my big Bose speakers outside and had the massed pipe bands playing full blast . Apparently they could be heard two kilometres away. Did the trick though and they would turn it down later at night at least.
3 years!!!!I would have ACDC pumping the 2nd night. Then when it's time for bed, lock the door, and go sleep in a hotel.

I would be using Thai tactics to fix this problem.

You do not have any income from England?? If you have, you can get a letter of confirmation of income from your embassy,, and as you are having 400k in the bank already,, you need another 400k (33.500 baht/month) in income to cover the whole extension of stay based on Retirement.
So if you can´t present an own bank-account with 800.000K,, or you do not have any income,,, I guess you have to buy a new Non immigrfant O-VISA in England. Prepare a bank-account in Thailand in your name with 800.000 baht in it,,, and during the last 30 days of your entry in that Non Immigrant O-VISA,,, you go to immigration and apply for a new extension of stay...
Glegolo
Or you could just fly in and start the whole process here, making sure you have the required amount seasoned.First of all, have a chat with your Immi officer, they have been known to bend the rules,at least you will know where you stand.

An extension of your permission to stay in the Kingdom on the grounds of marriage to a
Thai national. More commonly referred to as a marriage extension and easier to remember......
The other common one is an extension of your permission to stay in the Kingdom on the
grounds of retirement, more commonly referred to as a retirement extension.
Sadly to my constant dismay both terms are often misused and ignored to the point of
causing utter chaos to people trying to glean info here on TV.
I thank you for trying to get it right, cheers.
Fair enough, but when Immigration officers call the 2 extentions of stay Married and Retirement visa, where does that leave us.Common usage has taken over from the correct terms.Immigration has found it easier to refer to the extentions as Married and Retirement, easier for us and them.

I used to live on Soi Nana in the old days and walk up to Suk for a taxi, pre skytrain.Thousands of taxis,1st was a check the price,2nd was check the price a bit more and usually took the 3rd.They used to line at my temporary taxi stop.Hardened my haggling skills for the rest of the day. Then one year i came in and started the haggle and he just pointed at meter.Took me a while to get used to it but more relaxed these days.
