  1. Given anyone of a dozen or more countries around the world, Trump would have ended up as a harsh and uncompromising dictator.

Indeed. He can't help himself. He's just an undiplomatic, crass, uncouth, bully.

Sounds like that other clown, Bush the second. He got elected twice.

Of all the people in the US you would think they could come up with someone better than this and Bush got in twice!!!

  2. I fell into the same pattern about 10 years ago, drinking a lot, not doing much, eating the wrong foods. I started jogging, bought a bicycle to ride around the parks near my apt, but then decided to ride it everywhere, cut out the drinking and bad food. Took about 6 months to get into shape. Lost a lot of weight.

Yeah that's kind of the advice I gave myself. Cut the drinking and be more active. Sounds so easy...

No,it's not easy.It requires disipline to go to the gym and to change your diet.Go to a doctor first and get a full health check, diabetes, ect.

  3. Great, travel to the other side of the world to seek a hotel next to a hospital.

He said they were elderly , not on deaths door step.

Careful what you say ..... your years are adding up also.... and before you know it......?????

Spot on Gonzo! Well said. Some people often mock the things they are to be.

I find so many malcontents posting here and wonder why the hell they live or visit Thailand in the first place. To them everything is wrong or bad or evil. That includes the people, the food, the government, the police, the laws, the traffic, the drivers,etc.. Nothing ever lives up to their standards or expectations. If that is the case, get the freak out of Thailand. Go home or to another place you can bitch about.

These are people who refuse to adapt or are incapable of adapting. This isn't their home. This is the Thai people's home. They manage. I happen to enjoy it here. I enjoyed living in Japan. Hell, I even enjoyed living in Southern Illinois. Yet in each of those places there were people who never stopped bitching day in and day out how bad it was. Just leave. And do let the door hit you on the ass on the way out.

    You are exactly right.

    Yes, go home complaining misfits.

It's the obvious solution to the plight of the unhappy camper... strike the tent.

It immediately solves their own problem, as well as the problems they create for Thais, whose unwelcome guests they are.

Above all, the speedy and unceremonious departure of malcontent farangs is a boon for those of us who have made Thailand our home, raise families here and try to live in harmony - insofar as possible - with the people and their culture.

Obnoxious, arrogant farangs spoil the scene wherever they are. There seem to be more of them nowadays. Look at how negativity has come to dominate the ThaiVisa forums.

These are mostly the johnny cum lately's who left it too late in life and will have problems adjusting.

  4. If anyone should have the ordasity to suggest to me that I am too old and infirm to do so...............I would be absolutely livid. They may be Senior Citizens, but would be surprised, at 70+, they are as decrepit as you are suggesting,

I don't know any male foreigners living in Thailand, over 70, who aren't nearly dead (most are dead).

    I only know one woman.

How long do you think you have left?

    Without serious medical issues?

    Audacity? ..........

You should get out more,as i know plenty of well over 70,approaching 80,and still riding bikes and motor bikes, drinking piss and horizontal folk dancing on occasions.

  5. I think your friends should reconsider and perhaps choose another country. To spend the last measure of their physical strength and hard earned moneys to visit a country that has so little to offer beyond cheap whores, food and booze that can be had elsewhere. Where they will be scammed and fleeced from the first taxi from the airport to dirty waterfalls Charging 10x local price to enter. Where they can be injured/killed on the roads with no accountibility, with bent Cops, and Hospitals that will not treat the injured until funds are deposited in advance.

Perhaps if they were from China or Japan, eager to spend on expensive Golf Courses or private Sky-Lantern shows for 10000 baht per person. If they must come by all means OK, but Thailand has made it clear they are not wanted or needed anymore.

I guess you don't live in Thailand then.

  6. In the condominium we manage all foreign owners have internet banking, none have a work permit or company. I have internet banking with BKK bank, and also for my company, pretty disappointing service. I would recommend K Bank, BAYor SCB. As ever, things very from one branch to another, but I KNOW you can open an account without a work permit.

What's disappointing about BB.Easy to get around the site and has never let me down, what more do you want.

  7. Oh please. I am retired and have been in Thailand almost 15 years. I do not work. I got an internet account access years ago. When I asked about it all they asked me was what kind of visa I had. At the time it was a one year non-O multi entry. No problem. Fill out a form and was signed up immediately.

I would suggest trying at a different branch. By the way, I am on a Thai Elite visa now. Still evalua

He would probably be told to go back to his original bank'as if they're not the same company.

  8. Unless the rules have changed the OP is getting the run around. I've had BKK I-Banking for several years. Bit of a hassle as I cannot have my wife on the account but I get around that by transferring from the i-bank account into a joint account... which by the way on the joint account we can not have internet access... go figure.

Just make your wife a 3rd party payee and transfer to her normal account, easy peasy.

  9. They were probably tipped off by the same smugglers, they catch one all attention is diverted to him, big collar, smiles all around, meanwhile another few mules make it through. You see a lot of people committing drug crime to get the money to stay in Thailand. If your only option of getting the money to stay in Thailand is by way of crime. Then at least have the sense to do it in a country with low jail time. That's why so many Eastern Europeans come to the UK.

This guy's life is now totally <deleted>, and he only has himself to blame, but he wasn't the first, and he certainly wont be the last.

    And do a crime,with a lot less consequences,eg,skim scam.

  10. He looks like he has some serious miles on the clock for 46. And he is going to have some seriously harrowing years ahead of him now.

I think the scandinavians have a transfer agreement that allows them to do 10 years here then the remainder at home. I hope in his case thats true. 10 years here inside would equate to a lifetime elsewhere

The UK has such an deal, none of the UK prisoners apply for it.

They get pardoned by the King after 8-12 years here.

If they go back to the UK they need to serve the sentence that they were given in Thailand - 99 years for many.

It is not the same with most countries, where upon repatriation the sentence is reviewed and they are resentenced in guideline with the home nation.

I would not want to be this lad. A hell not worth imagining awaits.

Very few take the not guilty 99 year road. When reality sets in,they plead guilty and max is 33 years, with hope for King's pardon. No pardon if you plead not guilty.

  11. As a goodwill gesture fines for minor traffic offenses have been reduced to 100 baht over the holiday period .Good luck

In most of Australia both fines and demerit points are doubled for all holiday periods and some long weekends. It's a good deterrent.

I'm in Oz now,and all i do is look at the speedo when i'm cruzing around.I have noticed that the traffic is a lot slower,so heavy fines are working.Govt will have to come up with other ideas to gouge.

  12. I made an illegal U-turn, was stopped for it. I refused to pay the bribe, asked the nice policeman if he wanted to see my license. He reluctantly ticketed me. The wife went with me to the police station, said "you wait here", went in and asked for a discount. The officer at the desk said that they couldn't give a discount on that ticket but they could tear it up and issue a ticket for not having the proper documents in the car. My wife agreed to that, paid 200 baht and returned my license to me. Pragmatism defeats idealism once again.

Did it? You paid the same amount - 200 thb. But since you "refused to pay the bribe" you ended up spending more time and effort to pay that exact same amount. Doesn't really sound all that pragmatic.

The ticket was 400 baht, I was guilty, but because I abhor corruption I wasn't willing to pay half that amount to the cop. My wife, on the other hand, being a realist decided that paying less was smarter, that's pragmatic.

What a joke.So who do you rekon the cop out on the road reports to at the end of the day, back at the police station. You rekon their boss is missing out on their cut.No wonder Thais think farangs are dumb.So you just handed the 'bribe" straight to the bagman and wasted your time doing it.Oh you got a receipt,i can here the cop laughing from here.

  13. Thanks all for the advice.

He did not ask for the blue book at all, I did have it in the car, but that's what's written on the ticket.

How do I get my drivers license back then? He took it at the stop. Will they send it back in the mail, or will it be at the traffic police station?

They'll have your driver's license there and they'll give it back to you when you've satisfied their needs.

Now, given you say you had your blue book with you and your mom was in the car with you, I might suggest you take your bluebook in with you, explain that it was in the car but the officer never asked for it, and maybe your mom can provide some approving backup. Be nice, smile, look innocent (hehe), and maybe (I doubt it, but it's worth a try) they'll give you a break.

Correction: Noticed I said the train station was west of there....nope, it's east (I knew better and screwed that up).

But is ol mum going to mention she wasn't wearing a seatbelt.

  14. Thanks all for the advice.

I bet you pay the 200 baht next time. How do you know where that 200 baht goes,if your wrong, cough up.

  15. Just think! Who likes you, falls in love with you because you're 'eldragon' as is? Not because of your position, work or status.

    Excuse me, we're in Thailand,

No love here, they just want money and an Iphone.

Not all that sure about any love in the west either,

They're just a bit more subtle about getting the money.

So you drop your high and mighty standards to get a leg over and then you pay a student for sex.Shallow as a petrie dish.

  16. Sounds more like an advertisement for Cambodia.. I never heard anything positive about living in Cambodia. I have found it to be a filthy country. In addition, if you are retired and have a government pension, will your country pay you your pension [direct deposit] while living in a communist country. Mine won't.

Cambodia is not a communist country. At least check Wikipedia before posting.

Excuse me, I should have said Socialist.. Any country where the leader is appointed is not Democratic.

You still haven't said what backward country wont send money to a Socialist country.Plenty of ways around that problem,if it exists.
