  1. How does a 12 year old 'volunteer' under that kind of social pressure? Disgraceful. Interesting is that the 'church' didn't apparently state what the tonsure is supposed to represent which at least would have made ecclesiastical sense of this idiocy. Perhaps it got lost in translation so we get the usual stock Buddhist phraseology of 'enriching the spiritual experience'.
  2. Yeah, such a shame Prayut is gone. None of that with him. Funny but I seem to recall it was a lot worse - except for the tax of course. And the manipulated baht so they could launder their loot in foreign real estate. Actually enforcing a tax code in a near bankrupt state where the fabulously rich do not even pay the police a living wage is not authoritarianism to anyone apart from Ayn Rand freaks.
  3. ... and the loser of the election gets named the winner LOL ...
  4. “Our priority is to establish rigorous guidelines to ensure visitor safety,” Which we then won't enforce for whatever reasons.
  5. Again, whilst I feel for your position and hope you find a solution, even as a lefty wokist I think a certain amount of due diligence can be expected from adults planning such drastic changes of circumstances. All the information is on the uk.gov website. I can't remember the headings or exactly what's written, but I read the whole lot as I also get my pension abroad. I am not condoning the policy by the way. I agree that those who have paid in all their lives should be able to cash in wherever they are. But that's not the reality and reality is what we as adults have to adapt to.
  6. Yes. Much as I can feel. for her, fact is this policy has been in place since well before her move. It should have been one of her considerations when making it. Sadly noone is perfect and can fall foul of themselves and their own careless or wishful thinking. It also highlights the "I'll self insure and make it back to Blighty for any serious ailments" fallacy. Sometimes you just can't fly. Especially where accidents are involved.
  7. I didn't think of that one. I'll try and remember it if I'm ever pictured by the cops or find myself being pointed at 🤣
  8. Thought there was a daily fee. Whatever.
  9. Shame we all aren't willing to join the race to the bottom in terms of wages and conditions, as well as welcome with open arms the social control, censorship, suppression of dissent and credit/debit accounts for behavior. Life would be so much better if we did. Not.
  10. Don't they charge for the IDC?
  11. The defense accepted the jury as seated without further demur. And the jury vote was unanimous. Stop trying to enable a fraudulent felon, grifter, sexual assaulter and out and out disgusting liar who would sell the US to Putin, Xi and Little Missile Man if the Price is Right. If you are successful don't think it won't affect you badly sooner or later. Discrimination and hatred and impunity know no bounds or exceptions once installed in power. And everyone suffers. Everyone. Even those who think they're safe.
  12. The convicted felon has never yet won. He was SE-lected in 2016 by the screwed up 'electoral college' rubbish, not E-lected. He won't win this time either - decent people are generally in the majority. But the actually rigged part of the system may yet again see the loser of the vote installed in the WH. Interesting days.
  13. It'll sound great on the Dem campaign trail 🤣
  14. This why the US (and potentially EU as well - although there are different considerations involved there) are considering tariffs on Chinese autos. They are dumping over production just like with steel ... China has some interesting economic conundrums to get to grips with.
  15. Petch need a good pat on the back here if not indeed a generous wage hike. How delightful to read an article that is a clearly written, easy to read, logically constructed, interesting narrative with fascinating details, which also introduces genuinely related news without actually stating 'related news'. 👍👍👍
  16. Have you any idea what went down during Mau Mau days? And that barely 10 years after the liberation of Europe.
  17. Do they have as many ships as the Americans yet?
  18. It was a political act - not only against the Pelosi's, it was an act of political terrorism against the state institution of Congress. Shouldn't be handled any different to nazi/islamist/leftist terrorism. Maximum sentences.
  19. Wonder what he'll be thinking aged 60 or 70 - that'll be a lot worse.
  20. This lot were experts and knew exactly how to fool the staff. Mistakes get made. It's part of doing business ... just like breakages and shrinkage. Obviously if a staffer is regularly screwing up then that raises other issues - especially if it's costing money. But for a one-off like that, taking 285 baht off a presumably minimum wage day's earnings is deplorable. Either that or the business is so badly run it can't afford 285 baht. Miserable feudal society practices.
  21. It's really disgusting and exploitative - especially given already exploitative wage levels and conditions. Jesus if you can't give your staff a 285 baht one-off break under those circumstances you are an utter scum-bag.
  22. Naah, when he does his visa exempt 30 day extension ;D
