  1. which is against the PEA regulations and imho not the best advice ...
  2. maybe it's similar to a car loan in thailand: they tell you the interest rate is 4%, but you have to pay this 4% on the original loan amount from the first to the last installment. in reality, the effective interest rate is closer to 8%. most people don't realize this, and think 4% is a good deal ... !
  3. a loan of 600,000 thb with 71 installments of 16,000 thb results in an annual rate of 24.28% interest! (total 1'136'000 thb)
  4. agree, speculation and scaremongering does not help! some people prefer to be proactive and prepare for what might happen, while others prefer to do nothing, believing (or hoping) that nothing will happen at all.
  5. "Seal won't start!! Battery dead (small battery), what should I do?" sorry, the video is in thai, but i'm sure you'll get the picture ...
  6. no ... but there a few others think about (starting out of the blue) "gifting" they wife's and so on. just remember, the TRD makes the decisions and calls ... i wouldn't choose to be the one who's testing it ...
  7. sure, i refer to a "stunt" as something risky where the outcome can go in any direction! (i think you know, english isn't my first language)
  8. i will fill out the tax return, as i have for the past 10+ years. by the way, i'm not working and i hope to receive a nice pension in nine years ... what i recommend to my friends is: - to wait end of february 2025 before taking any action. this gives you still time to get a TIN number and complete the tax return. - only transfer this year (2024) as much money to thailand to avoid paying taxes. the exact amount depends on many factors. - if possible, avoid any 'stunts' with gifts, savings, or things that aren't 100% cleared by TDA.
  9. how about this? i think it's better not to point fingers at others for "twisting the facts" ... https://www.expattaxthailand.com/your-questions-answered/
  10. how can we have a clear understanding when most of the provincial tax office staff probably don't have a clue either? the whole thing is much more complicated and may end in chaos. specially when it comes to interpreting the TDA, gains on stock shares, house sales, savings etc.
  11. it depends. if the tax in thailand is higher than in your home country, you have to pay the difference to the TRD ...
  12. i think the majority of foreigners haven't been aware of it; in the past many transferred earnings in the same year to thailand and committed technical tax evasion. for this year, the rules are clear about who should file a tax return: https://www.expattaxthailand.com/your-questions-answered/
  13. no one knows if anything will happen or what will happen with the new tax law. bringing money into thailand for buying a new car (house, etc.) will be tricky, but burying your head in the sand and pretending to be oblivious isn't what i would personally do.
  14. no ESS? or would you use your car battery as ESS?
  15. a 24 year old beautiful thai girl who never ask for any money ... most likely doesn't exist! how much money do you give her every month?
  16. i completely agree with you on this ... however, i think the TRD will respond, address questions, and clarify things after you submit the tax refund for 2024. for the moment, the basics for filing the tax return seem to be clear, but beyond that, there is a lot of uncertainty and speculation ... in the end, the TRD will make the final decision, whether we like it or not ... therefore, my advice is to keep it simple and play it safe for this year, like transferring only so much assessable income so you don't have to pay any tax for 2024 ...
  17. that is a good one ... 5555
  18. to be more precise... if you are a married tax resident and transfer under 220,000k (assessable income) in the tax year into thailand, you do not need to file a tax return ... if you are a single tax resident and transfer under 120,000k (assessable income) in the tax year into thailand, you do not need to file a tax return ... https://www.expattaxthailand.com/your-questions-answered/
  19. you are trolling, aren't you?
  20. there is no global income tax for thai residents, and hopefully, there never will be. as a thai tax resident, money transferred after january 1, 2024, will be subject to taxation. transferring savings accumulated before december 31, 2023, will not be taxed. you can find some helpful information here: https://www.expattaxthailand.com/your-questions-answered/
  21. fair enough, but how many times have i heard this in the last 20 years because of some law or regulation changes? yes, i am sure there are people leaving, but also new arrivals ... if i were wealthy and worried about the new tax law, i would check the LTR visa...
  22. i think i read it somewhere, but i can't find it anymore ... according to an article in the bangkok post from the end of 2023, thailand has 11.8 million registered passenger cars (maximum 7 passengers). does anyone know how many battery electric vehicles (bev) passenger cars (excluding phev/hybrid) are registered in total, including 2024? thanks, motdaeng
  23. never mind, i have nothing to hide and there is nothing to get from me. i understand your point, but i gave up a few years ago on trying to be "invisible". if you use the internet or cellphone, sooner or later they will have your data.
  24. that might be a good thing ... i wouldn't miss a certain low-life foreigner group who think it's their right to behave like monkeys ... they know they can get away with everything.
