Giant Canal Hole Causes Chaos in Whitchurch
But still, that canal has been in use for 200 years. I used to live close to this area, and as far as I know there has only ever been one other collapse of an embankment in all that time.

Thailand Faces 40 Road Deaths Daily as Drunk Driving Persists
It's noticeable that cops in most (if not all) Western countries are paid a half-decent salary, which, combined with stringent traffic laws, removes, more or less totally, the temptation to accept bribes in the area of road offences. Especially if you can be prosecuted for attempting to offer a bribe!!

Canada's Carney Under Fire for British Spelling in Docs
Being confused about your national spelling (Carney) is not half as bad as visiting another country dressed as a citizen of that country (Trudeau). Talking of that thicko of a Prime Minister, there were only three words that he seemed certain about: diversity, equity, and inclusivity. Big words that Trudeau probably never actually learned to spell.

Most Thais Unaware of Alcohol’s Role in Cancer Surge
An unfortunate name to be preaching the dangers of a product that has been consumed for thousands of years with no apparent ill-effects when taken in moderation, which is the case for the vast majority of the world's population.

UK: 1-in-3 children do not speak English as a first language
I know this is a normal English joke, but, seriously, every time I hear on tv a football side-kick of obvious Scottish extraction (at least once a week), I wonder how many people there are like me who don't understand a blind word he's saying.

Thousands Rally Against Barracks Asylum Plan in East Sussex
Actually, if we're looking for a culprit for all this nomadic nonsense, look no further than Berlin, 2015, when Mutti Angela let in 1 million. And to think that Brexit was supposed to protect us from all that damage to the social and medical systems that had been working more or less ok. But not just Merkel: all the Tory Prime Ministers failed to push through a "proper" Brexit. Above all, they failed to yank us out of the European Human Rights bal£ocks - to this very day.

Thousands Rally Against Barracks Asylum Plan in East Sussex
I'm guessing, but I rather doubt that there are many Labour voters in Crowborough.

What Movies or TV shows are you watching (2025)
It's not about "different tastes and opinions" - we can all take that for granted. But one good function of having a site like this is to gather some information about what kind of movie/series it is....give me just a sentence telling me what the main theme or action is about will be sufficient to let me know whether it's worth "looking for" myself.

What Movies or TV shows are you watching (2025)
Going back a few years, but I remember really enjoying the first three seasons, but had to stop in season 4 when Danes's character became (for me) unbearably irritating. Everything began to be focused on her, so that even a dog barking might be the occasion for the camera to zero in on her face to see her bulging eyes as she went into panic mode.

National Guard member Sarah Beckstrom dies after DC shooting
How is it that the bilge and utter tripe that he spills out with monotonous frequency can be characterized as being indicative of a "great reputation" . Only people unable to think clearly and rationally could see his illiterate spasms as being worthy of a "great reputation".

What Movies or TV shows are you watching (2025)
But WHY is it "pretty good"??????? I don't know about others on this thread, but if I am to pay attention to your opinion, I need to know why you have that opinion! Don't want to be "picky", but if this thread is to be useful, it needs to have opinions backed up by specific reasons.

National Guard member Sarah Beckstrom dies after DC shooting
This guy Tug should be on everyone's ignore list, if only because he is so illiterate. Illiteracy, ipso facto, disqualifies a person from being taken seriously in a discussion thread like this.

Trump Calls Mamdani “Great Mayor” in Amicable White House Meet
Nice way of splitting the Democratic Party as ZM will get all the attention that people like Newsome and AOC can only dream about, and Dem voters will wonder who in fact now leads the Party. Divide and rule. Well done, Trump.

What Movies or TV shows are you watching (2025)
Good, thank you. You're quite right: since tastes vary widely, it's really handy if people would at the very least mention a genre; that would reduce a lot of scrabbling around!
