  1. Your faith in "science" (which of course is always changing) is touching. The climate cultists are every bit as ready to eviscerate you for "wrong belief" as was the Spanish Inquisition. One religion is much the same as any other....it always involves believing that some other schmuck's religion should be swept from the face of the earth.
  2. So you believe in Hell, eh? Maybe, instead, you might want to join the Climate Cultists, because they keep telling us we are all going to be "frying" very soon if we don't do as they say....
  3. I laughed out loud (as they say) when I saw this one-liner. Yes, I'd have to admit that it is difficult to imagine some of the yobbos on here bending down reverently before sidling into the pew. But then on further thought, it has to be admitted that ignore it (wonderful pseudonym) and I both belong to all "this lot"......
  4. It is not going to end peacefully if the US sets the precedent that it is OK to steal another country's property. (As opposed, of course, to stealing it in warfare, of which history has millions of examples.) There are billions of dollarsworth of infrastructure which American businesses have had to abandon in Russia in the last two years. Stealing from the Russians will in effect forfeit all that infrastructure. Maybe you're ok with that....but you do see the ramifications, right?
  5. tch.com/investing/index/dxy That is a good graph to show (and I go there myself every day). However, if you look closely at the numbers (and the surrounding stories) you will see that there has been some weakening of the dollar. Not so many weeks ago the dollar index (versus gold) stood at about 102 (now it is 104, and so a strengthening of the dollar. But it is strengthening because of global expectation that US Treasuries will go up (see the story below the graph). If Treasuries go up, it is because the "market" expects further inflation and further rate increases. The rate increases will come because of the huge deficits being run by successive administrations. (That is why whoever wins the next general election is going to have to somehow solve this problem of deficits as far as the eye can see. But who has the balls to do what needs to be done??!!)
  6. I'm surprised that no one on this thread has mentioned the most obvious reason (among many) why gold has climbed so much in the last two years. It relates to the American imposition of sanctions on Russia at the beginning of the Ukraine business. When countries around the world with strong economies saw that the US was likely to suddenly freeze the assets of any country the US disapproved of, they began to organize against the same thing happening to them as happened to Russia. So, the BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China, & S. Africa) began the process of setting up a payments' system in opposition to the dollar system that has prevailed since the end of WW2. (The Brics countries have been joined, last year, officially by Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran and the UAE.) Russia of course got around American sanctions by trading oil for Indian rupees or for Chinese yuan etc. That was the beginning. It is already leading to a slight weakening of the dollar. Much more dangerous for world peace & stability is an idea originating in Washington that (in order for Congress to finance the carnage in Ukraine) the US should SEIZE (that is, steal) $300 billion in US Treasuries that belong to Russia. If that idea comes to fruition and the theft is committed, it will herald ...well, who knows what ...but the consequences could be extremely serious. Nothing written here is secret or conspiratorial. It's all easily available in numerous sources in financial and political journalism.
  7. He takes his orders from Brigitte. It is alleged by some that she is not even a "birthing person".
  8. Much ado about sweet FA. But normal non-story from GBNews. As long as the putative Brit boycotters don't turn up in LoS instead.....
  9. On narrow-guage all the speedy way from Bkk to Hua Hin and beyond? Clickety-click, clickety-clack???
  10. As I read this sentence, it means that Thai passport-holders already living in the UK will be allowed visa-free access when returning to the UK. If it meant "all Thai persons holding a passport" can now visit UK visa-free, that sentence should read "to the United Kingdom". Naturally, I could be wrong....
  11. Yes, immigrants who, for the most part, reached America legally. Whoever wrote the OP piece (ChatGPT?) is totally out of touch with reality. These illegals (I doubt anyone knows the exact number under this Biden regime, but certainly in the region of 8-10 million) are (if they ever find jobs) likely to depress the income of working-class Americans. But on the other hand, why work if you can turn up in NY and be handed credit cards with $10k to look after yourself after your long trek (and secret nighttime flight) from some terrorist-producing country in Central America or beyond.
  12. Any Tom, Dick or Harry from most areas of the world can enter Thailand visa exempt (and with Zero in the bank or pocket). Almost as "open" as the US southern border!!
  13. When Trump wins, THEN there will be a bloodbath. As in 2016, when the Dems did not accept the result (ever heard of the Russia hoax?), so this time too, they will not accept the result. Except that this time, they (or their proxies in BLM and antifa and their ilk) will resort to physical violence. Biden will have to call out the troops (well, at least till January 19, 2025)
  14. You're absolutely right. I almost feel sad for Chomper, now that he is indeed showing Bideresque signs of losing his touch.
  15. I asked myself that question and the answer came from the mirror: "you should not engage with people who manifestly have at least one screw loose."
  16. If you could learn to read, you might discover to your edification that I did not imply or state that you had said anything "inaccurate". What is the matter with you, man?
  17. Thank you SO much for that enlightening response. Your trenchant opinions (based 100% on fact, of course) raise the whole tone of this thread.
  18. I haven't seen anyone commenting on the actual style of the OP attack on Rowling (who is dismissed by trans luvvies as a TERF). The style of this article strongly suggests, for me, its origin in ChatGPT. Its blandness and sickening belief in its own correct view of the world have the hallmarks of so much now being manufactured as original essays or hack reporting by AI. It's easy to ignore this whiff of inauthenticity while concentrating on the allegations being thrown around. Bo££ocks, in short.
  19. Since 1945, most Asian nations have experienced some kind of "revolution" (whether in war or by throwing off an imperial yoke). But Thailand? Nada. Zero. Zilch. Nothing has happened to fundamentally change the way "business" is conducted in Thailand. Looking at all the other Asiatic experiences, I find it difficult to see why revolutionary tendencies (whenever and wherever they have arisen) should be so easily repulsed in this country.
  20. Clearly, the only way to solve these problems is for us all to cease travelling. Maybe stay home and watch Rick Steeves....
  21. Just reading all that exhausted me totally!
  22. I don't follow: why is using one's VPN likely to give better results? My VPN is on almost permanently, so I can't easily distinguish whether that is good or bad in the searches we are talking about here.
  23. Little boys do not pose a threat to the average Thai woman. Whereas, the average adult Thai male.........
