Every time I access my bank account (daily cos it is also access to stock market), I always make sure my VPN is on. Just in case. You never know. In particular, if you were ever accessing sensitive information in a public place such as a mall or coffee shop, a VPN would protect you from snooping by curious by-standers.

Americans’ top 3 festive escapes: Italy, Japan, and Thailand take the lead

Not the Thailand I know, but I suppose if you are prepared to travel around a bit you will find some "beautiful beaches". But dragging oneself around a temple does not in my book count as "cultural richness". -

the list of ok reasons to visit Cuba are so wide and various that no American should ever worry about visiting or returning from Cuba. If by any chance your reason for going is not covered in the ok list, you can always go to Mexico or Canada and slip in that way....!! -

It's all about inflation. The rate of inflation growth has come down considerably since the almost double digits of 2022. But inflation itself continues to grow at an unacceptable pace worldwide. Ask anyone who goes shopping for food. Ergo, the disposable income of all those missing tourists is just not available to sustain the Thai economy at the level it once enjoyed.

Sad to see that nobody on here (the thread is about Christmas music) has so much as mentioned Handel's Messiah, perhaps the most wonderful piece of music ever written.

Any Leicester City fans on here will be glad to read that King Power will not be negatively affected. -
As a Canuck with a Thai wife, if you don't already know Thailand, I'd advise you to do exactly what you seem to be doing (and which others have advised you on) - namely, two or three months to see how things go. Travel around a lot. Compare this and that. Be extremely careful as a pedestrian in Thailand. Medical insurance. Be aware (as I'm sure you are) that provincial medical coverage expires in six or seven months in all provinces of Canada when you leave the country. You can of course re-join, but there will be a three-month wait. My province (BC - and I am sure all the rest) will reimburse your medical costs incurred abroad, but they will not cover deliberate medical tourism. If you are going to Malaysia, I can certainly recommend Penang. As far as I can tell, you can no longer get a visa mailed to you from the Vancouver consulate or Ottawa embassy. Everything is now done on line.

That's why we come to Thailand! I like the attitude here re trannies (or lady boys as the case may be). Nobody bats an eye if you want to become a girlie. Certainly, as far as I know from asking my wife, no lady boys' grouping goes around demanding special treatment and mixed toilets and all the $hit we have to put up with all day long in the West. Especially UK, Canada and US.

Much as I despise Trudeau for his hypocrisy and general dumb-a$$ed arrogance, I have to question your assertions there. The newly introduced free dental care will, when it eventually comes into being, be available only for those aged 87 or more!! (And it's only for things like check-ups and cleaning.) Mortgage bailouts? Haven't heard of this one. Was this some temporary help during Covid? Legal pot? Mixed reactions. The pot industry in Canada is a stock market failure. Most smokers can get cheaper weed from their former illegal suppliers, and prefer to stick with them! (So, not many votes there.) All in all, Canada is a failed state, well on the way to 3rd world status. No wonder 3rd world recent immigrants are getting out asap when they find out what it costs to buy even a shack or when they look for a non-existent doctor or that even bananas are expensive in a banana republic.

There's only one small glimmer of hope amidst all this supreme bo££ocks: eventually an election will have to be held and Canadians (over many decades) have a habit of violently voting an unpopular government OUT, reducing the governing party to as few as 2 seats. It's happened too many times, both federally and provincially, to list here. The polls suggest that the much-loathed Trudeau, if he doesn't step down before the election, will be dumped mercilessly. In the meantime, a Canadian university proclaims its shameless virtue signalling while advertising a tenure-track job where skin-colour counts for more than merit (surely a world first) : In accordance with the University’s Equity Plan and pursuant to Section 42 of the BC Human Rights code, the selection will be limited to members of the following designated group: Black people. Our search committee will review the pool of applications from those who self-identify with this designated group. Candidates from this group must self-identify in their cover letter to be considered for this position. Of course, like Senator Pochahontas Warren, one could always "self-identity" as genetically black.
