  1. Took the family down there for an 'up-market' holiday - never again. Dreadful place with both foreigners and Thais having a very poor attitude - heck I would even prefer Pattaya !

  2. I think, you should buy cheques American Express. And when you arrive in Thailand, you will decide which a bank is good for you. Maybe you change your mind of buying condo.

really bad advise, you need to transfer the money from your USA bank (or on my case UK bank) in your own currency and change the money into Baht, you will need a letter from the Thai Bank saying you did this or you will not be able to put the condo into your own name.

I have bought a condo, and I used HSBC Thailand (in BKK). They gave me an English speaking personal manager to handle all dealings with the developer and give me the required paperwork. I have an HSBC premier account in UK which helped.

The only disadvantage was they only have one branch in BKK.

    cheers

Not very useful as the as the Poster does not have an HSBC Premier account !

  3. Take the green book and insurance to any Mityon shop and they'll do it for 200 bt,just done mine, couldn't be easier.

Have to wait a couple of weeks for it to come back to the shop but they give you a receipt to show the police if you're stopped.

Save money - AA Insurance Brokers (by Big C south Pattaya) will do it for 100 Baht :)

  4. I used to like their flight to Hiroshima, Japan, too bad it appears permanently discontinued. I cannot understand Bangkok Airways, their prices are just as high as the big full service airlines. Last time I flew to Singapore, they were something like 4 times as high as Asia Air, and just as much as Singapore and Thai Airways.

Errr maybe that's because they are a 'full service' airline - and from a lounge (for the cattle class) viewpoint they are better than any of your so called 'full service' airlines

  5. cheers; I'm on an aircard and too slow to make AA bookings that way so will head to an internet place 4km away - worth the trip I came back from Penang yesterday on cheap fares I bought last year, in May we head to Phnom Penh at the crazy cheap fare of 290b each way.

Hmmmmm and the full story, how much are the taxes :whistling:

  6. I've been there twice and found it deadly boring. Spent three days there each time. I live 20 km from Pattaya, about 20 minutes from the centre. I wouldn't want to live in Pattaya, it's too sleazey but if you want to go to the cinema, have a nice meal, do your shopping etc etc, it's all there. No, I can't see me moving to Chiang Mai.

Not sure which Chiang Mai you visited but I can tell you there are 2 multiplex cinemas (I like the Airport Plaza one), restaurants which are every bit as good as anything ytou could find in Pattaya and enough shopping opportunities that you could never exhaust in a life time !

Oh, and I live in Pattaya :D

  7. Surely if the ride is insured '' any driver '' then, any driver, regardless of nationality as long as they have a Thai licence can drive. Wouldn't have thought it mattered about the owner not having a license as long as they don't drive it.

Go get the owners name changed to you, easy. ( But she might not like that ) :D

Yes the insurance sticker is on the windshield (or windscreen for you lot across the pond) not tatoo'd on the drivers forehead  ...

Alas the "insurance sticker" is no more - that stopped some time ago. The only sticker on the windscreen now is for the Road Tax.

  8. MRO, can you make a "good translation" of the specs for the new jazz? I take it that the manual version will now have twin airbags and other goodies but not too sure. The orange looks cool, but a pity we don't get the 6speed that Japan has.

Well I can read Thai, but not Thaiglish that's been translated by Google :D

These are the changes I can recall off the top of my head for the Jazz minor change however:

    • All models now come with dual front airbags and ABS brakes as standard.
    • New orange paint color.
    • Small styling updates (new bumpers, new wheel designs)
    • New seat colors.
    • New badges are:
      • S (5MT 590K, 5AT 630K)
      • V (5AT 660K) - adds 15" alloys, steering wheel audio controls and central lock.
      • SV (5AT 715K) - adds 16" alloys, different body kit, foglamps, and folding side mirrors.

Engines, tramission and base platform remain the same (it's a minor change only).

Cool, at least now it has full safety features in the base model, for those who like to shift by themselves. There is an article on the headlightmag.com website about it but its all in Thai.

Just ordered the 'new' Jazz and no 'free' insurance anymore :crying:

  9. Why was I charged 600 Baht by the dealer for "road tax" but only receipted 100 Baht in the log book by the Land Transport Dept?

What is the correct annual road tax for a CBR 150 R?

Perhaps you can look in your log books and see how much you were receipted for for bikes over 125 cc.

Maybe because they took you for a ride (sorry about the pun) as they certainly did for the compulsory insurance - it is not and never has been 550 Baht

  10. Go to the Suzuki dealer right there on Sukhumvit. A little bit south of Index on the other side.

You usually do the road tax and the insurance all in one swoop.

It was 1000 baht the last 2 times. You bring your green book and they foto copy

the page that shows you're the owner and then take the book for one month. And

give you the photo copy to hang on to. (And of course your passport)

You come back and get the book back after 1 mo and the new sticker to display and a

ticker tape looking thing with the insurance policy that's real easy to destroy the ink on so

don't carry it for a whole year scrunched in your wallet. When

your bike is 5 years old you have to bring the bike there and they mechanically inspect it as well

as determine the authenticity of the numbers etched in the case.

What I want to know is

if you go to a completely different city outside of Chonburi province

do you have to start all over with a fresh proof of residence from the immigration

    for that city?

Was 800 Baht on corner of Lengkee and 2nd road last time I did it Same -Same

Not a good idea- all you will get is the rubbish insurance not worth the paper its written on. As for going to a bike dealer haha what do they know about insurance - go to AA as someone else said - they understand insurance as that is their job !

  11. 3rd class is what you describe, 3rd party medical and cars/bikes, bailbond

I think you are right about it being called 3rd class & apparently its the only option for scooter sized bikes under a certain amount of CC's, ie: Im pretty sure they wont do a 1st class policy on a fino. BUT the way I see it, is if everyone else is covered & ur just up for a fino replacement, then sobeit & at least thats a start.

There are limits on the policy like 200,000 baht per person injured up to 10 million baht, bail bond I think was 200,000. Driver on the insured bike also gets some basic coverage, it wasnt all that flash but certainly better than nothing.

    NeverDie,

Could you please tell me where you get this insurance for a 125 scooter type machine as at present I only have the compulsory 3rd party junk. Even at 2000 baht it seems worth it to me.

    Many thanks,

    Mak

Very simple go HERE and you can buy on-line

Sorry, but the online quotations are are big Joke.

After 6 days got those Prices for a 1 Year old PCX today

    Wolfgang

1st Class is 9,008 Baht and 3rd Class is 3,446 Baht.

    Best Regards

    Peter
