  1. A short review from my visit last night....

We started at mt Thai buddies place on Soi 71 at a little before 5pm and had traffic all the way.....

the road the main road the train market is on at Soi 51 was backed up from about Soi 21.....again 5pm traffic

Once we got there parking was 40 baht...

it is a big place , the area farthest away from the parking lot is a classic car show area with a band which had not started yet,

there are 3-4 rows of buildings with a marked off sales are in front of these buildings...

The buildings are full of shops with "antiques" and collectables , mostly from the USA and Europe , a little Japan with some Thai stuff too.....

the was very few of the marked off spots between the buildings with sellers.

I liked the stuff they had for sale / display .....they had a good eye for picking things with style , but I am not sure if all of it was for sale,

plus most of the Thais there were young and not customers for this stuff , so if you wanted to open a shop to show off this is the place , but from what I saw it was not a selling place for that stuff......

then there were rows and rows of clothes for sale , some new vintage style stuff , vintage style T shirts etc and many places selling used USA clothes and purses / bags

also like any Thai market many trendy food places , plus the normal Thai food....

and then the covered buildings nearest the street had mostly new clothes ,

There were 1000s of people and swarms more coming in at 8pm when we left , I only saw a handful of tourists, this place is so far off the grid that most tourists would never know about it , it is not JJ market ,it is for the locals....

So maybe 20% cool stuff, the rest clothes , food etc

Would I go again , YES , but I like the collectible stuff , I own that kind of stuff and would buy more......this was just a short trip with my friend to check it out , I will be back next trip,,,,,

I hoped that helped , go out there , have fun and buy a few things !

  2. Most Post Offices in Bangkok have shipping boxes available in various sizes, cost from Baht 9 to Baht 36 if I recall correctly.

I am surprised Nana does not have them however!

    Patrick

Nana does have boxes , but this is a special marked box "EMS World shipping" I assume.

the "box" guy at Nana was the one who told me about it.....

to find the rate , go to the Thai Post website , rates , put in USA and 20000 grams and it shows you the prices, the last one has this EMS World shipping rate , but really no details

It would be nice to see what countries it can be shipped to as Belgium does not seem to be one,

Also if there are many fixed rate boxes sizes like the USA has.

The Fed Ex, UPS boxes are much more expensive , about 7000 Baht for 25kg but it goes Air and arrives within a week ,

  3. Hi

the NaNa post office does not have these boxes , are there many sizes ?

I could not find a web page , but 20kg is only 1400 baht to USA , I think you would have to send metal blocks to get 20KG in the box ,

But it might be interesting for some people ,

surface mail for 20kg is 3200 baht

anyone use use it before ?

  4. I assume this is a trial balloon for the HH area only now , but if they went to all this trouble to make a public event out of it , then there must be a bigger plan,

carrying an ID card is pretty normal all over the world ,

I do agree that knowing where you are at all times works well to keep the tourist numbers up to date ,

see how good it has worked in North Korea !

  5. Hi    ....  anyone know the Print Business and what the best result I can get.....

I would like to reprint a catalog , its mostly black and white with a simple 3 color cover.( red, blue and black) and it is not glossy

it was done 25 years ago , offset printed and there are many photos but the original photos and artwork has been  lost ,

So what is my best plan ?

Right now I am thinking a  High resolution scan of the original  which will just detail the offset dots better, is there a "magic" resolution that works best ?

and then is it  best to print the catalog with regular printing plates or is digital still going to get me the "vintage" look

it is 20 pages plus the cover which is 3 color on the outside and  B&W on the inside
size is 11 x 8.5 inches , standard USA paper size

I would like to do 100 copies , I can do more or less if need be....

Any ideas ?  and a place in BKK that can do it ?

    thanks for the help

  6. Hi...went to MBK and found the shop, but they were not interested in helping me order "blanks"

maybe I got the wrong sales girl !

anyway its on the 3rd floor , car park side and most of the way down before you get into the "maze" of all the small rows of shops.....

    ,

so I am still looking for the shop that makes them .......

but thanks for the lead they had many more designs I had never seen before....

I am sure there are more shops that sell them and one main shop that makes them

    cheers

  7. I suggest going to Baiyoke Tower 2 (the really tall one that can be seen from all over Bangkok). There are a number of fashion wholesalers there on the first 4 floors. I was there yesterday and saw quite a few retro clothes and accessories shops on the 3rd and 4th floors.

Thanks for your reply , I have been there a few months ago and walked all the floors , but half were closed or not in business, I also did the same thing at the Bo bae "tower"

there was a lot of neat T shirt ideas etc but I did not see these bags....

I know I can have them made but they want 100 - 200 pieces , so if I can find who made the ones are for sale already maybe I can buy some "blanks" and screen the name myself

    Cheers

  8. Went to Pantip and stumbled around for an hour or so , it seems there are 2 types of bluetooth remote shutters , a 2 button and a 4 button. , these are the same sold on Amazon by 10 sellers

i bought a 2 button one for 200 baht , the 4 button were 300 baht , the extra 2 buttons are supposed to be for Zoom in and out ....

But I also looked at some of the security cameras that are Wifi , and could be made to be battery powered......

so the latest greatest idea is to use an HD WiFi webcam that has tilt and pan , mount the webcam on a monopod with Android smart phone / tablet etc mounted at the base,

The android phone will be a monitor and the trigger , plus it can be used to aim the Webcam.......

on question, , since they are so cheap , can you use a USB power block to power the webcam ? the Webcam I looked at needed 6v DC

  9. I often use my camera on a monopod with its tilting screen to film video cips over the heads of people, or get an interesting high angle....and also with stills using the 2 or 10 second timer.

Samsung smartphones can be set to use voice to take a photo or start a video.

With 4k resolution video on the top models a video can produce great still captures too.

    Hi....which camera has a tilting screen ?

not sure if voice commands would work well in a crowd ,

Are there any battery powered small WiFi cameras that would transmit a signal to a smart phone that you could use as a monitor / recorder ?

the idea would be to stick the Wifi camera on a monopod and record the input on the smart phone

I am not sure if you would need to record the stream and edit later or if you could record "stills" only ?

    Thanks for the ideas

  10. Hi

I am looking for a shop that sells or better yet makes the Vintage style retro Airline bags like Pan An etc used in the 1960s-70s

I want to have some made with an old company logo ,

I looked around BoBae and did not see any but have seen a few Thais carrying then on the BTS

any ideas where else to look ?

there are too many malls to look at all of them myself smile.png

    thanks for your help

  11. put it on 10 second timer and hold it up

I know that will work but I would like the option of taking more pictures if needed , without taking it down and resetting the phone / camera

and in a pinch I guess I could just set it on video and edit a long video later,

and then you have the problem of aiming it to your subject when you do not have a display !

I guess another new product idea will be a WEBCAM stick with a small screen on the handle and maybe a trackball to aim the webcam and also set the focus too .....

is there a webcam that you can use with an android phone ? or tether by cable to an android phone ?

    .....yeah too many ideas ......facepalm.giftongue.pngbiggrin.pngsmile.pngw00t.gif
