Foreigner Stumbles, Hand Impaled by Wire Rope in Pattaya
BigStar replied to snoop1130's topic in Pattaya News
They shouldn't--but they do. You can be right, but your own preservation should rule. I recall a member whinging about hitting his head on the overhanging signs on Beach Rd. and arguing he shouldn't have to duck. That's cause he never needed to duck when walking down Oxford Street. Again, Thailand should be like the UK. After some discussion, he revealed the fact of his refusal to duck, 'cause he shouldn't have to. If you see an old farang walking on the Promenade with a perpetually bloodied forehead, that's him. -

You might consider getting the gold standard glucose tolerance test. FBS and HbA1c aren't perfectly reliable.

You may hope to emulate the European who fell over dead while eating noodles in Jomtien a few years ago. Not sure if it was face first into the bowl or not. Can't find the article now.

What Movies or TV shows are you watching (2023)
BigStar replied to CharlieH's topic in Entertainment
Thanks for mentioning them. Neither seems compelling. In the first, the production values seem OK, but the plotline, from what I can tell, seems stereotypical, just replacing humans with monkeys. Even the voiceover in the Terminator is amateurish. Looks like a pile of effects. I think it's another flop. If you fans of the original Terminator haven't seen the series Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, it's pretty good, 1st season the best of the two. Some amusing dialog and situations. Summer Glau's always nice to look at. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0851851/ -
Preemptive. It's just a fact that our average poster does think foreign crimes should be ignored until all Thai crime has been eliminated or all the Thai crims immediately caught and punished--with the same penalties we imagine will be awarded the foreign crims. Furthermore, the Red Bull heir must be first caught. It's all part of the usual whataboutism. You've never noticed?

Might not have. I'm suggesting minimizing the probability within reason. -
Yeah, just one of "our lads," no biggie. Yet we all know UK drivers all drive perfectly, being educated, highly trained, and sporting higher IQs and bigger penises than Thais. Hence all our Driving Instructors to comment when a Thai has an accident. WOT happened? But drinking & driving impaired, as he obviously was, is more than just "naughty." "Evil foreigners" further attempt to diminish his personal fault by deflecting to Thais--as usual. Where's the Red Bull heir?

Foreigner Stumbles, Hand Impaled by Wire Rope in Pattaya

Tourists are likely unprepared for the challenge of Third World sidewalks. I first encountered it in Mexico. Expats have less excuse. Avoiding falls is in general esp important for seniors. To battle with Pattaya's sidewalks, you need to have good balance, for one thing. That means exercise and keeping your weight down. Obviously, you need to look where you're going. One old Brit didn't recently and stumbled and fell over a road stud. And you don't go "native," as one poster recently put it, in shower shoes. Go armored. I regard sandals, so beloved, as insufficient. Better: trainers. Me, I wear light trekking shoes. They grip superbly and fend off all the usual sidewalk attacks. -
And have already thrown it away. If so, they've shown they don't have enough sense to be admitted to Thailand. They should be refused entry and provided a free phone call to alert their caregivers to pick them back up at home.

Left off the polite "krub," so unwelcome familiarity. Possibly mangled pronunciation as well. She immediately had you pegged as a phony trying a distraction from possible paperwork issues. But given what they have to deal with day in and day out, I don't see how any IOs would be happy and pleasant. I wouldn't, in their jobs. That said, they've always been sufficiently pleasant with me. I don't at all mind a businesslike attitude; it IS business. Let's get it over with quickly. Cut 'em some slack.

There's nothing to get. Claiming there is won't help you. But it is OK.

As you know, I go along with TQ opening in 1978, long after the war, and have sneered at Dan's version of history. Now you're simply lying. Why all the desperation? Memory issue again. TQ rightfully claims to be the oldest bar in existence obviously. If you think Charlie's Hideaway is the oldest bar in Pattaya, then I'd like to go check it out. Where is it?

He didn't say only soldiers and navy men. And he was talking about during the war, not after. And then fell into a lot of anachronism. Meanwhile @roo860said nothing about being a soldier or navy man and referred to 1980 in his twenties. Other people simply ignored your nonsensical question, there was nothing to "get."

It would be lots better if he got everything right. The truth is better than the fiction. Fiction also annoys people who know better. Young Russians? I agree with you about the "good cheap hub," but we had a wannabe digital nomad here who hated Pattaya and couldn't wait to get back to the workspaces, food, and bike riding in Chiang Mai. No reasoning with him. He's since disappeared. Seems he'd be enjoying chortling from Chiang Mai and continuing to bash Pattaya, as bashers often do from afar. But good; and good luck to him.

I'll tell you what I regard as the only tragedy owing to the fire. (Thank god for such little damage otherwise, and no injuries.) The go-go stage wooden flooring had to be replaced. Now think how historic those old boards were, the thousands of girls that had danced and performed on them--including some not only hot but excellent dancers as well. (Believe it or not--over 40 years or so, ha ha). Now that was a loss. I wish they'd have salvaged at least some of those old boards and offered them for sale, would make for a unique souvenir.

Must be aimed at the ignorant unwashed back in the UK to garner sympathy. In Thailand Brits are in love with bum guns and regularly praise them with the usual scatological relish, enjoying relating details about applying the guns to their bums. The morning dump becomes a sensual event to be anticipated with pleasure, one of the highlights of the day. The first use leads to an epiphany: "Butt" bum guns are simply outstanding. Smearing feces with toilet paper on my back side is wholly repugnant to me. I do like a decent water pressure. --I used a bum gun for the first time. We had The Ultimate Bum Gun Thread back in 2015, but it's been lost in all the reindexing the forum's done for "improvements." But we have several yearly, such as in April. Ah, Thailand.

Yes, but the nonsensical question was whether in 1980 you were on R&R from the war, VN war being under discussion. It was over in 73. I took 70 as a reasonable year. You said 20s. I could take 20. So for R&R during the war, you would have been 10. Mid twenties would put you at 15. It was @Goatwho asked the question and got quite a few other things wrong. He may believe the VN war was still going on in 1980, to fit the narrative. So the dementia question was directed at him, seriously. As for you, you seem doing well. :)

I'm never bored in Pattaya, always have more to do than I can possibly get around to doing. I like to know everything, so I surf around a lot. I don't do facebook, don't have any fave youtube channels, prefer music to podcasts. Just as a general tip, I suggest getting into both Twitter (X) and reddit. I'm always learning from those two outlets. Most people who have anything worth saying have a Twitter feed that may be interesting for their latest thoughts and news. Lot of unknown gurus in your areas of interest to run across. I follow about 10 feeds regularly and have a list of about 20 to glance at sometimes. Reddit has specialty forums in whatever you're interested in with a lot of knowledgeable people posting. Discussions tend to be a lot more intelligent, on topic, and civilized than you find here. I look at 6 reddit forums daily, post on fitness, game, and computer-related topics, and have another 10 I keep around for an occasional dive.

When he was 10 years old? Dates, ages . . . they're just an ongoing problem, no? Fictional this and that. A bit of dementia?

So you don't know of any older bar. "In existence" is obvious and an unneeded qualifier for those with common sense. Are you Dan's alias? It did not burn down. The sections damaged were rebuilt. Even the music collection remained intact. It was closed a couple of weeks, maybe. Incredibly fast repairs, for Thailand. Totally irrelevant. It was open when the law allowed bars to open. Nothing changed. Oh, same bars, LOL. Still look same, outside & in? Same style of music? Name change = different bar under new management differentiating from the old bar. A building may be used for many different bars over time. TQ doesn't claim that it's the oldest building in Pattaya. If it did, you could happily squawk about that. Served alcohol. And did that stay the same bar throughout the 70s, 80s, 90s, and 2000s? Yawn. What a silly post to try to avoid admitting that, no, you don't know of any bar in Pattaya older than the TQ. Now if you did, I wouldn't care. But I figured you were just blowing hot air, and indeed you were.

But I didn't say that it is "simply" high carb, so a straw man argument. It IS high carb. The Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommend that carbohydrates make up 45% to 65% of total daily calories. --https://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/nutrition-and-healthy-eating/in-depth/carbohydrates/art-20045705 But This review defines low-carbo diets as follows: Very low-carbohydrate (<10% carbohydrates) or 20 to 50 g/d Low-carbohydrate (<26% carbohydrates) or less than 130 g/d Moderate-carbohydrate (26%-44%) High-carbohydrate (45% or greater) --https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK537084/ So, as I said, it's high carb by definition. And when high carb was officially endorsed, the obesity epidemic began. https://www.westonaprice.org/health-topics/dietary-guidelines-from-the-usda/the-usdas-pyramid-scheme/

I think we're just wasting our time here, and it's time to stop doing so. I said long ago that whatever works for you is fine with me, now didn't I? I've corrected a sufficient number of your false statements, so be happy with the attention and let's give other posters a chance as well. @scubascuba3's not done yet. :)

We're talking about dieting according to a diet plan, however. The whole foods diet described in John Mackay’s book The Whole Foods Diet: The Lifesaving Plan for Health and Longevity (2020) is a low fat, plant-based diet in which 90% or more of calories come from plants. Formal diet plans based using the phrase “whole foods diet” seem, at a glance, no older than about 5 years. At a glance; our historians may correct this impression. Low carb as a formal diet plan has in any case a far longer history than the formal whole foods diet plan. In fact, if there’s a fad diet here, whole foods is far more qualified to fit the description. Yet no one DARES call whole foods a fad diet. Why’s that? ;) Always possible of course, but less likely than just eating the high carb SAD (Standard American Diet). Anyway, low carb diets tend to emphasize protein and add in fat as well. And low carb dieting does work well. You don't seem to know what it is yet. But ignorance never deters an ANF Forum Poster. Rabid vegans don't like the idea of eating animals. Low carb can of course be vegan. In fact, so can keto. Those facts aren't widely known.
