BigStar replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
One reason I love living in Thailand is the experience of these priceless and often touching situations, characters, and stories. -

Sadly. Poor lady. -
The intro to the list gives the selection criteria. Many on the list aren't known to the masses. Each inclusion is given a little blurb. Obviously. But the committee members selecting for the list could do so. But that would take only one omission or one disagreement with the ranking. Ah HAH. X isn't on there. Any list, including one compiled from posts here, will provoke disagreement, especially among those at least somewhat knowledgeable. Reddit has nearly 500 comments on the Rolling Stones list. So other guitarists would have the most. As with lawyers, good alternate, convincing cases can of course be made. Here's one discussion: Nonetheless, we often rely on lists found on the internet in absence of other sources of information. They have their place. If I were looking only to appreciate guitarists, I'd check out this list and also look around on reddit. I probably wouldn't come here, as my taste seems to differ from that of most forum members, based on what I've encountered in the music threads. That said, I'm pretty well satisfied listening to those guitarists I know already playing the kind of music I like. There's already so much of that I haven't yet heard that I may not get through it all in my lifetime. Still, youtube algorithms keep suggesting similar stuff that a sample. But then it also distracts me too often with hot women who have their own list and millions of followers, ha ha. Suddenly my free time for youtube is just all used up! I'll close with respect for the long tradition of praise for unrealized, unrecognized greatness: Full many a gem of purest ray serene The dark unfathom'd caves of ocean bear: Full many a flower is born to blush unseen, And waste its sweetness on the desert air. Some village Hampden, that, with dauntless breast, The little tyrant of his fields withstood, Some mute inglorious Milton here may rest, Some Cromwell guiltless of his country's blood. --Thomas Gray, Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard

I applaud those who don't fit that mold, as this one did. :) -

Don't insult wealth. The man just recently congratulated himself on his cash and how well he's done. -

The uniform is always a sure giveaway. Somehow the arrogance comes through, but I'm not sure how. An instinct, I guess, from my having lived in Pattaya so long. -

You're trying hard to get off the topic of your curiosity about their possible sexual escapades. Does this mean you took my suggestion for getting over it, or just trying to distract yourself? -

No, I'm laughing at you. Funny the unconsciousness. -
I do, and he's got a lot of recommendations here over the years. Now if you need beauty, sweetness, fawning, talking, and modern plasticity, he's not your man.

Some folks just aren't compatible with Thailand and should leave as quickly as possible, definitely. And then leave the forum behind as well rather than hang around bashing from afar.

No, Thais are usually very kind to foreigners who've had accidents. If they can help, like helping him/her off the street to safety, picking up the bike, moving it etc. If possible; sometimes calling police and an ambulance is about all to be done. -

That shrewd, "insider" knowledge right on cue. In fact the whole story is fake, now isn't it? -

WOT??? Do no tourists posting about their trips on Trip Advisor read the forum and realize their holiday in Pattaya was utterly miserable? Where are our DOOM predictions of yesteryear? Wasn't COVID the last nail in the coffin? -

A competent translator. But was the Brit a tax dodger? Could have been his last fling before moving to Cambodia. -

Not really; I've been cut off by Brits on bikes, how 'bout you. And locals were not driving in this case. Just the inevitable attempt to divert attention to Thais and away from one of our own good lads from whom we expect better. Just a momentary, understandable little lapse that we've all had. Not drunk or senile or inept or anything. -
Yup. Happens here more than people like to admit, I think. Last year I was taking one of my fast walks on the beach when a Russian hottie in a thong totally distracted me. My head was revolving around watching her instead of my path and of course that was precisely the moment a tree root shot up from the ground. And I fell right over it. Got up and cleared outta there.

Yes, we're pointing around everywhere. Hanging wires, uneven pavement, hazardous roads, low toilet doors, missing manhole covers, carelessness about traffic laws/rule (only Thais), obstacles on the ground. Turned into a kind of delicious pointing fest, in fact, sticking it to the Thais, heh. And, yes, we've inevitably pointed overseas to the paradise of the UK to show how things should be done.

Sadly, lists and the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame ain't what they used to be. The woke regard the BS as positive, however. Kind of a religious fanaticism. We do have some here on the forum making regular appearances. Fortunately you got 250 to choose from. The best of the greats are most likely in there.

Not at all. If you are informed, then this book should be the more valuable, as you can appreciate that he does know what he's talking about. He makes a point of answering objections or potential counterarguments as he goes along, and explains where he differs from other scholars' positions.

In your own mind. Your naive, false conclusions are merely based on your "statistics" selectively derived from your Eyeballs At Random Intervals to reinforce a preconceived bigoted narrative. It's part of your fundamental belief that Only Farang Have Money you've never been able to get over. We've discussed this again not long ago, and I showed you the before and after pictures of Pattaya's far superior development under international tourism, after the Golden Egg Layers ran out of golden eggs. The Eyeballs evidence underpins most of the laughable economics on the forum: the shopping bag count, the lights on at night count, the red license tags count, the lines at the banks count, etc. Never see any actual numbers even with the supposed "counts," however. :) Nor have you looked at any actual balance sheets. It turns out that my Eyeballs see a lot more than yours, sorry. That's cause they aren't selectively biased and have frequently been in various high end shops and not so high end, such as mere Levis, where our Economists would never go. But I also have common sense and more knowledge about the market in general. No, merely shows I adjudged aright your mentality and its provenance. Mentally, you're still in K-Mart looking for those Blue Light Specials and imagine others are as well, at all times. You need a lot of updating, but even when you're shown the evidence, you ignore it and go right back to sit in your old bathwater.

I can't be bothered and am not going to argue any points with the uninformed on the forum. However, you can check the reviews and probably read an excerpt on Amazon, maybe also in Google books/reads. There's quite a lot in the book, it's pretty dense, though not as dense as his other book from which this derives. Better read it and get the whole context. Highly recommended.

By writing, in his book. Probably used Microsoft Word originally, but I dunno.
