Employers didn't tolerate tattoos back in the day. You wouldn't get hired.

2009 is still a fairly long time ago. Not sure exactly when they started becoming in fashion.

Now employers tolerate them. So because people are allowed tattoos in the workplace, they have them.

My IT guy at the last place I worked had a bunch of tattoos.

    So your theory is outdated.

You people are dinosaurs who have not adapted your beliefs to the changes in society.

SOME people with tattoos are low-lifes yet. You need to pick up the vibe from the person, not the tattoos.

Please stop judging all people with tattoos.

I'd say the general observation still holds true. I work in the mining industry, on several projects globally, and my observation is that the number of tattoos correlates with education level; the fewer the greater the chance the person holds at least one degree. Yes there are exceptions, so it's not a matter of discrimination, rather that better educated generally people don't get tattooed or have very few.

What are you talking about? Seriously stop making up nonsense.
Your Thai wife is still YOUR wife. Perhaps you might have to jump through a few more hoops to prove that but she still remains YOUR wife so if you want to go back to the UK, there’s nothing they can do to stop you. You’re just making up nonsense or you are literally daft enough to believe the cr@p people are feeding you. You don’t need this imaginary 65k you keep cr@pping on about. It’s all in your head and if I may be so bold, you should perhaps have it looked at.

“No, a British citizen does not need £65,000 to sponsor their Thai wife for a UK Spouse Visa. The minimum income requirement is £29,000 per year, or £88,500 in cash savings held for at least 6 months.”

    ok?

Thanks for the update, it was 65k prior to this years increase, it has never been imaginary as your prior post stated, nor do you have any right to bring a foreign wife to the UK, they can indeed stop you.

What part are we not getting? Yes you have to prove that you can sustain you and your wife and that you are not going to be a burden to the state (because she is Thai after all) but if you can’t do that then you personally can still go back.
Obviously no government is going to let a penniless national rock up with a bint from Nana and expect to pay for her but the requirements are reasonable and achievable.

I'm perfectly aware of the requirements to take a foreign spouse to the UK, so there's nothing I'm 'not getting'. However, the bit I don't get is your sudden change of tune from the post I responded to which said 65k savings was imaginary, it isn't.

    Sorry but you're wrong there.

If I wanted to move back to the UK and take my Thai wife with for longer than 180 days per year she needs to apply for a Spouse Visa. Currently the requirements are either I have a job with an income of at least £29,000 per annum (can be combined income if wife had employment too), or savings of at least £65,000. The financial requirements were brought in in 2012 by the Conservative-Liberal Democrat coalition.

It’s ruining their lives, their relationships, and what remains of their mental health.

I thought the US was supposedly the Land of the Free, if 4% of Americans wish to still wear a mask then that's their choice and none of your business. Given the cost of medical care in the US if your health is at all fragile a simple mask is probably a good investment.

I wonder how much of this is related to the unrest in the South and how much is just the random violence that happens everywhere?

When I worked in Songkhla, I talked to a lot of the locals about the situation, and it seems a lot more complicated than I realized.  Largely related to land grabs.

I'll leave my statement at that.  It's complicated.

    That it is.

The southern border is lucrative territory, as most borders are. There's plenty of money to be made in smuggling, whether cigarettes & alcohol, drugs & people or anything else there's a market for. Gangs kill to control the best routes and maintain monopolies, and the southern insurgency provides a handy cover. Those 'gangs' include local mafia, various Muslim separatist groups, as well as corrupt officials, police, army and defence volunteers.

There are real missionaries in Thailand. I've seen them in Chiang Mai. How these people are allowed to enter any countries is a mystery to me.

Yes, we had a spell, prior to COVID, of Mormon missionaries canvassing our neighbourhood looking for converts. The ones doing the talking were Korean women, with a couple of young American men loitered around giving orders, the Koreans could speak Thai. Thankfully not seen them since COVID.

Got it. So its not the policy thats bad, its the fact that non Thai folks hate Anutin

Anutin is well remembered for his rant about foreigners not wearing masks during the pandemic, I have no idea if he genuinely dislikes foreigners but he carries that tag. Importantly Anutin is rich, the family owns Sino-Thai Engineering and Construction to which he is the heir, and he's ambitious, he wants to be prime minister.

Sounds like a good idea if I am reading it correctly. It seems like they are creating am Immigration Department within the Ministry of the Interior? If so it could be more efficient.

Its tough for me to comment in an educated fashion since, unlike you expert commentators above, I dont speak Thai and am not familiar with the intricacies of the Thai Ministry of the Interior so I wouldnt even be able to read a flow chart of the various responsibilities like you guys.

How are the Immigration matters assigned or controlled now? How will the reorganization plan affect day to day operations?

You experts on the Thai government should know.

If done properly it probably is a good idea.

Currently the Immigration Bureau is one of the many arms of the Royal Thai Police, and reports to the Office of The Prime Minister, not to the Minister of The Interior which would be more usual and logical set up. However, given the current incumbent is one Anutin Charnvirakul, this could simply be empire building rather streamlining of government.

In the West for instance, you almost never see those.

Your eyes must be painted on. Just back from a trip to the UK and the place is awash with ink, airport departure lounge ink everywhere. Here in Hat Yai I see far fewer people with tattoos, particularly large ones. Personally I find tattoos, especially the large ones, ugly and disfiguring, but understand that that is increasingly a minority view.
