So its safe to assume your living in a tourist ghetto ? in the suburbs in most cities in thailand you would be hard pressed to smell anything other than rubbish ,fish sauce or diesel fumes
I've not heard Hat Yai referred to as tourist ghetto before! Indeed I'm blessed with wonderful air here in the south, which makes the stench of ganja even more pronounced whenever I visit Bangkok. I don't mind if people want to smoke the stuff, but please do it in private or designated 'coffee shops' as they do in Amsterdam. Please, not out on the street and in public spaces.

The quandary was more what's it doing in the Southern Thailand forum rather than the Central Thailand forum - it's worth noting the forum blurb for Central Forum does include "Phetchaburi". Snoop1130 does have a history of being geographically challenged.

I thought the PM had said this was all fair goes, and Thai traders just needed to up their game?
QuotePrime Minister Srettha Thavisin said that the dumping of cheap Chinese-made elephant pants in the Thai market is a normal and opportunistic trade practice that should serve a lesson for Thai businesses to work faster to protect their interests.

Why transfer or open a new account?
I have a Krungsri account in Bangkok I use for my marriage extension (don't ask it's complicated) I just go to a Krungsri branch here in Hat Yai for my letter to immigration and bank statements, no real drama takes about 20 minutes. That's about the only time I have dealings face to face, everything else is via the app. New ATM cards, passbooks, update passport info all can be done at a local branch; you don't need to open a new local account.

Gday
Why would I do a non-o multiple entry at savannakhet when having 400 k in a Thai bank acc. does not make sense to me. 12 months extension of stay plus multiple re-entry is cheaper and more efficient.

Depends on your circumstances.
When I was working contracts in Indonesia a multi-Non-O was better, as working two on two off, I couldn't afford the time out for the under consideration period. The cost of the visa is roughly the same as an extension plus a multi re-entry permit. Now that I'm semi-retired I find the 1 year marriage extension suites me better.

Fortunately, providence intervened in the form of a vacationing Canadian doctor, who administered vital first aid, pulling Mooney from the brink of death.
The Israeli guy ought to be giving this Canadian doctor a chunk of change too, saved him from a murder charge.

I've used the Embassy in Jakarta for marriage non-O multi pre Covid, just looking at their website that's still seems to be the case with the addition of proof of 400k. The consulates in Medan, Surabaya and Denpasar Bali do issue tourist visas, but not sure they do non-Os as well. Might be worth seeing if you get a response to an email.

Some nationalities can only apply if the hold a KITAS (residence permit) for Indonesia, but it didn't apply to most European countries, you'd need to check that's still the case.

But Jews, in London, Europe and elsewhere are being targeted with hate and violence stemming from such protests and sentiments. Antisemitic incidents are on the rise. And even the reports on them protest usually include clear instances of such. Same can be seen on these topics, where labels are often used without care (or worse, intentionally).
Which is wrong.

It is in case you’ve forgotten. It’s worth remembering that Jews residing in foreign countries outside of Israel that have no affiliation with the Israeli government are being criticized, insulted and attacked just for being Jewish in the last few months, most of which is coming from the misled so-called peace loving leftist who in fact have always been on the wrong side of history, time and time again.
No I haven't forgotten, my comment is exactly about what you are highlighting, criticism for what is going on in Gaza attaches to the state of Israel and supporters of Netanyahu's government, and not for example to someone living in London who happens to be Jewish.

Not exactly sure what you mean, my response was to the OP's question, not to any of "them topics".

It isn't (or at least shouldn't be) "criticize Jews", the criticism is of the Israeli government and its actions in Gaza. It's worth remembering that not all Jews are Israelis, neither are all Israelis Jews.

It's never that much drama at Hat Yai Immigration, sure they want to dot the i's and cross the t's, and occasionally the other way around, but it's only once a year.

Hello dear members,
I would be happy to get some ideas and inputs from old-timers in Thailand :)
A bit about my situation:
I moved to Isaan around a year and a half ago and built a cheap house to see if I want to settle down here and experience life firsthand. The house was a valuable learning experience, allowing me to observe its construction from scratch. Overall, I have enjoyed my time here and am now planning the next steps, which involves building a "proper" house.Initially, I planned to build a decent-sized ~600-800 sqm house, but lately, I have been considering something bigger.
My wife comes from a very poor farming family and she has created a mental barrier for herself convincing that she's not "good enough" to have something luxurious. Last time we went to iconsiam, i had to convince her to go there with me, because she thought it's not for people of her "status". She has done well in life, relying on no one, got educated enough with free goverment education. Got a decent job and attended university while working. When i met her in bangkok, she had a "good" office job by thai standards, but in my view she was basically a slave working 12h per day, 6 days a week, living in a small one-room <deleted>hole with a pay that is laughable by western standards.
My wife already considers me rich for being able to live without working and for being able to build a 1-million baht house. I've been living quite humbly and only hinted her that i had some extra money, but she has no idea how much.
Life in isaan can be boring sometimes, so why not have some fun? I have some "<deleted> you" money and slowly planning to build a huge mansion in middle of rice fields. I already know that i have 0 need for house that big, it's mainly to heal my wives mindset of her inferiority complex planted by thai society. Your wealth and power should not limit and define you as a person. I know there's better ways to do it, but why not? I'm also not investing on someting i can't afford to lose.
My question is regarding the downsides of owning a big mansion in middle of nowhere. Is it worth the effort?
Here's some i thought so far:
- I have to hire staff to keep it clean.
- More people will annoy us when wealth is obvious. It's been quiet so far. Only had some people asking for money when we first moved to the village. (I like to keep to myself mostly)
- Visible jealousy- Unwanted attention. Potential thieves and people with bad intentions.
- I have seen how power and money can change character. Might happen to my wife.
Picture of the house i currently plan to buildThe electric bill

I don't disagree with you, but Thailand's military still pull the strings of government, for helicopter money, fighter plane money, submarine money, submarine engine money, landing craft money.........................
For what? Who are Thailand ever going to go to war with?
