I renewed my both DL at the PTO about 2 weeks ago.

Went there at 09:00 with the following documents :

Copies passport (Name page, Visa extension page, Entry stamp page and TM 6 card )

    Copies of the old DL

2 Proof of Residence papers from immigration.

3 people in line and after checking the documents went straight to the color and reaction test. (done in 10 Mins as i had 2 people in front of me)

Watched the movie at 10:00 ( they started the movie at 09:50 and finished it before the end at 10:50)

Down to pay the bill (waited for about 10 mins)

Took the picture for the new DL with again waiting about 5 mins as i had a few people in front of me.

So in the end it took me from 09:00 till 11:30 without any issues or problems.

All the staff where very friendly with reasonable good English.

    Thank you so much. Perfect!

The latter part of the previous post is correct.

The first 21 lines are not, as indicated in the text " People applying for a new licence to drive a car or motorbike ", this is only aplicable to new aplicants.

So for the OP: required are, besides the usual passport copies and CoR/WP/yellow book: medical certificate, copies of old license(s) and tests will be done: reaction, colour, depth perception and peripheral vision.

Thanks. I thought the previous post wan't correct. I also thought for the 5 year renewal you do not need a medical certificate.

This you ned to  renew your 5 year car drivers license in Phuket:

Phuket Rajabhat University is now providing viewing sessions of the compulsory road-safety video in order to reduce the time it takes to get a driver’s licence in Phuket.
People applying for a new licence to drive a car or motorbike must endure a five-hour video session as part of their compulsory road-safety training in order to be issued a licence.

Those applying to renew their existing licence must complete viewing a one-hour “training” video session.

The training video sessions at the PRU campus in Rassada are provided under a joint project between the Provincial Land Transport Office (PLTO) and Rajabhat University, an official from the PLTO confirmed today (June 16).

The video sessions are being offered due to the PLTO being busy daily, and will be offered until September until further notice, the PLTO official told The Phuket News.

“People still have to go to the PLTO to take the eyesight and other tests to be issued a licence. We do not offer these,” said Dr Sumran Chaisawas, of the Political and Administrative Science Faculty, who is heading the project at PRU.

Participants will be issued a certificate to present to the PLTO when applying for their licences.

“Training days are every Thursday and Sunday. For those without an initial licence, the training starts at 8:30am and finishes at 2:30pm with a lunch break from midday to 1pm,” he explained.

“Those renewing their licence are only required to view the training video for one hour, but are welcome to stay for longer to view the rest of the video.”

“The video sessions are held in Room 756, on the fifth floor of Building 7 (Law Building),” Dr Sumran added.

Viewing the five-hour video session costs B500. Viewing the one-hour video session costs B200.

“The video sessions will be provided until September for now. If we have enough customers, it may be extended,” said Dr Sumran.

To register, visit the PRU Office 8:30am to 4:30pm, Monday to Friday, or call Dr Sumran at 093-6592591.

Thais must bring a signed copy of their ID card.

Foreigners must bring with them their passports, plus signed copies of the photo, visa and permit-to-stay pages; their work permits if they have one, plus signed copies of the relevant pages; and a letter from Immigration confirming the foreigner’s address.

On successful completion of watching the relevant training video sessions,

For more information call Dr Sumran or contact the PLTO at 076-220791.

I am a bit confused, Do you have to take the 1 hour video at Rajabhat or can you still watch the video at the Land Transport office. It looks to me this is an option to reduce the load, but the Land Transport still offers the video. Am I wrong?

Also, the video is offered free at the Land Transport office, so it does not make sense to force people to watch the video elsewhere and pay for it.

  4. I have to renew my 5 year car drivers license in 2 weeks.

Has anybody done theirs recently and can give me advice as to what I need to bring and what time I need to be there in the morning?

    Thanks in advance.

I know there are older threads on this subject, but just want to know the latest info.

I am not too sure on your actual question, but when I move things from China to Thailand or vice versa, I always get stung when using DHL or FedEx. Try looking at a courier company called SF, a Chinese company with operations also in Thailand.they are much more efficient and cheaper.

    Thanks for the reply.

Do you have a web address or phone for SF?

I heard DHL and Fed Ex was a problem, but any idea what I would pay for the above in taxes, duties and tariffs?

Rick your kind of in luck as I stumbled upon a place recently which advertises itself as a coffee shop but makes all types of home made grub that was very tasty. From memory they had:

    Lasagne - was very good

Home made pizzas - well tasty

    All kinds of burgers

All types of coffee including decaf.

Ok this is where some locals need to lend a hand:

In the centre there is a park. If your standing outside park looking over dual carriageway there'd a big make up shop??? Looks well girly. Big shop. Ok to the left of that on corner is this joint. Susu coffee maybe it's right on corner and next to a haberdashery shop. Lady running place is thai but has excellent english she sounds Canadian and she's a great cook.

Thank you so much for your help.

Hopefully someone can give me the address or location.

Do you happen to remember the name of the shop- is it Susu coffee?

    Thanks again

good luck on your search. Hope some locals will be able to help.

I am curious about decaf coffee though. Have you been able to source decaf coffee for home use? I haven't been able to find any...except starbucks and boncafe.

They are the only 2 places I have been able to find decaf as well for espresso.

For regular decaf, I found Moccona and Nescafe at Tesco and Big C.

  8. I am going to visit Khon Kaen for a few days starting Thursday to visit my wife's family.

We have not been there in 8 years.

Can you suggest a good place for the following-

    1) pizza

    2) hamburger-and not Mc Donalds

    3) decaf coffee-and not starbucks

    4) desserts

My 11 year old son is interested in 3 of the 4 above it's not the decaf coffee. lol

Unfortunately, the coffee is for me and for medical reasons, I can't have caffeine.

Thank you in advance for your help.

PS-We are staying in Amphur Muang, so the closer the better, but not very important

  9. Ask at the police station

What a waste of bandwidth. This forum used to be good without smartarse comments from people with nothing better to do. If ou don;t know shut your mouth.

The man asked a simple question that deserves an answer if anyone knows.

I have dealt with the Special Branch in Bangkok for becoming a Thai Citizen. Try phoning them to find out the location In Khon Kaen.

Sorry you are upset by my commentgigglem.gifgigglem.gifgigglem.gif

Like hell i am. It was in my opinion a very useful answer.

The officers at KK police station should be able to help, because they will know the answer.

Please lighten up and get a life.

As i final note. You are correct i do not have anything better to do.

As i am confined to my bed or wheelchair all day.

Thai visa is a lifeline to me it helps to keep me going, stops me thinking about ending my life due to me situation.

Hang in there and I wish you all the best!!

  10. You can NOT work more than 40 hours a week and get social security.

It does not matter how much you make when you work abroad. The only thing that matters is the amount of hours you work a month.

    Makes no sense to me.

If SSA finds out you are working more than 40 hours a month, they will suspend your benefits and deduct what you got from your future benefits

Flat wrong. Read the links instead of making stuff up.

    I don't think so.

Here is the link again which taxout also posted.

    https://www.ssa.gov/OP_Home%2Fhandbook/handbook.18/handbook-1823.html

The only thing I got wrong is the amount of hours you can work.

It is 45 hours and not 40 hours.

  11. No, please read the link above. Hours do not come into play for retirement benefits.

The link above refers to those who live in the United States.

When you work abroad and are under the full retirement age, you can't work more than 40 hours a month and get benefits.

Just call the Manila office as advised above. They are friendly and knowledgeable and will confirm what I said.

As for finding out if you work more than 40 hours, they do random update calls and yearly update forms are sent out.

Yes, it is the honor system and hard for them to find out, but do you want to take the chance?

  13. Thanks for the replies.

Tried to jog, but I get home from work late, rain, exhaust fumes, too close to cars and motorbikes etc.

No fitness place close to me.

No choice but go the treadmill route, but don't want to waste my money if it breaks and I can't repair.

  14. Does anybody know who repairs treadmills?

I want to buy one, but their is no local repair for all companies.

I would need to send machine back to Bangkok which is not feasible.

Whether it is the motor, belt or electronics.

    Thank you
