Integrated 10/100 BASE-T Ethernet LAN
10/100 you usually find only in the museum......
My laptop....don't know how old but newest driver are from 2009 (so it is for sure 6-8 years old) has a 10/100/1000 LAN
If I get this laptop, is there a way to change the ethernet?
I am not a techie, how will this affect my internet?
Thanks
No effect on the internet, unless you have a connection faster than 100 Mbit (which is extreme unlikely).
Just if you connect it to the office network and move large amount of data.
Like I move my huge email mailbox and complete office data on the laptop if I travel and when I come back I move it back to my other computer.
So I guess for most people it isn't a problem....Just I ask myself why they would put something so outdated in it and what other strange components it may has.
I would recommend before you buy it, look at Amazon.com for the same laptop and read the reviews (there are always some negative, but there easy to see what is real and what are just troublemaker).
That way you also see if it is a "normal" laptop or some Thailand only thing.
This is just a Thailand only thing and just came out so no reviews of any kind.
Thanks for your reply and advice

I just put a deposit on an HP Pavilion 15-ab213tx. The link is below. The price is 27,900 baht.
I had a budget of 25,000 baht or less, but I thought it was worth the extra 3,000 baht for a 6th gen i7 chip and a 1920x1080 screen.
What are your thoughts? I can always cancel my order.
I am not going to be doing heavy gaming.
Thanks

Have not owned any products from either HP or Acer but this site would suggest that HP is better:
http://www.laptopmag.com/articles/laptop-brand-ratings
However, many people would say that it depends on the model more than the brand.
but be aware that some/most HP laptops have a 10/100 Mbit LAN connection only in case you want to connect to the office LAN this should be in a museum....
I just checked and the ethernet connection is 10/100 NIC
How will that affect internet speed and connection?
Thanks again

Will I have trouble connecting to wi fi?
Will it mean my internet speed will suffer?
Please explain.

Thanks for all the replies.
I will go to the stores this weekend and hopefully view both screens turned on for comparison.
I also hope there will be a clear cut winner.

Does anybody have any experience using the shopat7 website for electronics?
They have some really good prices and will deliver to a 7/11 for pickup.

Thank you for all your help and advice.
I will hopefully check both screens at the store although I see many times that the store does not turn on the computers for you to see a live screen.
That would make it very difficult to compare.
I guess it's also time to decide if it's an Acer or HP-any thoughts?
-
You didn't say anything about a possible price difference?
Generally a higher resolution is never wrong if the HW (graphic card) can handle it.
Try to find out the details of the graphics HW and compare it.
But honestly: on a 15.6 inch display you will have a hard time to see much of a difference.
I assume both laptops come with an HDMI port?
Do you have a reasonably big LCD TV (32 inch or better 40 inch up) with HDMI port?
That would make sense: viewing full HD (1920*1080) on such a screen.
Assuming your videos have this quality (which is still not the rule)!
Its then even possible to do dual monitor operation.
Viewing a video/movie on the LCD TV in full HD while surf/email/write on TVF on the laptop.
I disagree that surfing the net has use for full HD.
Watching videos/movies and gaming are THE use for full HD.
The difference in price for the 1920x1080 is about 3,000 baht more.
Both have the Geforce 940M graphics card
Thanks for your help

I am looking to buy a mid range laptop with a 15'6 screen.
I will be using it simply for surfing the net, watching videos, listening to music and mild gaming.
Which screen resolution is better for me- 1920x1080 or 1366x768?
Leaning towards an HP Pavilion or an Acer
Thanks for your help

If you can travel south, Moo Tex Mex in Nai Harn will have her annual Thanksgiving buffet.
Usually Lots of turkey, potatoes, stuffing, cranberry and good gravey. Cannot remember if there is ham. Even some ribs and some Thai food. Desserts as well.
Beverages not included.Been there three years and well worth the cost, but price probably up from last year.
Some years she has a Christmas buffet, but not always.
Thanks, but a little too far for me.

Any particular part of the island racyrick?
I live in Chengtalay, so hopefully close to here. Thanks

Does anybody know who will be having a Thanksgiving dinner buffet this year?

The MI4c is impressive .
Well worth the wait.
You can preorder (for 28th Sep) both models here from https://www.ibuygou.com/
I like one too
It might be smarter to wait for the international version which they will sell in HK/Singapore etc., because as I understand it, the MIUI 7 OS will not have google play store installed, and it is some pain to get it manually on there.
I agree this phone will be the hottest setup for the money, but best to wait for an international version.
Sorry for the dumb question, but why is it a pain to install google play store on this phone?

Thank you everybody for the thoughtful replies and advice.
Yes, I will look around first for a school and try to live close by.
Varee may be an option BUT, nobody has yet to tell me where a good Thai public school that has an English program is located.
Does anybody know of one?
I would be moving to Chiang Mai because of work, not cause I want to.Not that it is a bad place to live.
I am not happy to hear about the pollution or immigration issues, but I would have no choice if I must work in Chiang Mai.
Thanks again

Unfortunately, the prices are way too high for me to send him to a private school.
I will need a Thai public school that has an English program. Not happy at all to do that, but no choice for me.
-
Do you mean that you want a school that teaches the British curriculum or a Thai school that has an English language program?
I am looking for a Thai school that has an English program as I am not sure I can afford to send him to a private school.
Any idea of the average price for a decent private school that teaches both Thai and English?
Not top of the line, but a good school.
Thanks

Sorry, I should have also said that we would prefer the house to be furnished and new or fairly new.
Thanks again

After living in Phuket for the past 7 years, we may be moving to Chaing Mai for various reasons.
My wife is Thai and we have a 10 year old son that is going to a public school with an English program and is in P4
Can you please tell me what is a good area that has an English program public school and what is the average rent for a house.
We would like a house with 3 bedrooms, city water,a/c and western bathrooms in a good/decent neighborhood.
Thank you for your help!

I really like michelin pilot sport 3 for wet weather and have them on both of my cars. They have very deep and wide grooving. They are stable at freeway speeds in heavy rain, provided deep puddles are not on the road. I wouldn't skimp on tires, especially in the wet conditions we get here. I wouldn't call the michelin ps3 a budget tire though. They would be about 3500 each for the vios, at a guess.
Again, Michelin is not a budget tire.
That's true, but nobody should skimp on the only thing connecting one to the road. Especially in Thailand with all the idiots on the roads here. Aside from thunderer, Maxxis is another brand to look at that is a bit cheaper. Tyreplus have them.
Davis but skimping on price does not necessarily mean skimping on safety, that's the age old sales pitch they want you to buy into and so many do. I can and have personally vouched for the quality of the Thunderer brand as have a couple of other posters recently. As an example when Kumho first came to the state side market they too were thought of the same way you do by many and then they began competing on them and now they have a much higher quality point of view but are still a reasonably priced tire. Still that does not belie the fact that the OP is about "budget tires", it's the OP's choice in the end, not for us to criticize his reasoning. Maxxis is also a good alternative and yes OP it would be much easier if we had an idea of size?
Buying tires for my GTI recently (autobahn speed engineered car) and they call for Z rated tires when one will never see anything higher then an "S" rated tire speeds (not legally at least) and even that's extreme but they won't sell or mount them (lower then OEM rating, using the excuse of liability when the real truth is they want to sell you the most expensive and have an excuse to try to do so) because it deviates from the OEM, which is way over-rated for our speed limits as is even the S rated tire. There is also little to NO chance that if you exceed the max rating of a given tire, that the tire is instantly going to de-laminate or some other auto destruct mode instance either.
Thanks for your reply. I agree with your opinion as well.
I did post my tire size above. 185/60R15
Bottom line as you have already figured out, I am just looking for the best value tire that is good on wet roads

We changed from the stock Bridgestones to Yokohama "Earth" on our VIOS. It changed the whole personality of the car. These tires inspire confidence in any weather.
Pretty sure the OP said "budget", nothing with the name Yokohama on it is "budget". OP check out these, good wet grip and cheap.
http://www.b-quik.com/en/tyre_search.php
Put in your tire size and have a look, the one I recommend if it is made in your size is Thunderer, but it may not be as it is a reasonable cost performance tire, but have a look anyway.
Thanks for the reply, but they are not available in my size.
What size do you want? This company stocks cheaper tires: http://www.sportmag100.com/sportmag/. 15 inch are considerably cheaper than 16/17inch.
Another option is to buy nearly new tires that have been traded in. You could probably but a new/nearly new set with alloys for 10000 baht.
My size is 185/60 R15
I don't find any Thunderer tires in this size

Can you please tell me some places that sell Yokoham tyres for passenger cars at a reasonable price here in Phuket.
Preferably in Phuket town or the north end of the island.
Thank you in advance.

Thank you for the comments.
I guess the main question overall is if this is a good laptop for me based on price and usage.
I only plan to use this for pretty much basic things like surfing the net, watching movies, listening to music and mild gaming.
Based on that, is this a good computer and value or do you recommend another brand and/or model.
