  1. my understanding is that many of them are here as legal, legitimate traders mostly in clothing ?

Now these Africans really are sounding like the Indians in Pattaya. my guess is the Thai government has the same agreement with the Africans that they have with the Pattaya Indians. you never see an Indian having to do a visa run.

  2. well integrated into their surroundings

    working girls or katoeys?

Yes I did see a couple of black working girls but that is not what I meant with well integrated. Although no doubt integrating well between the sheets the well integrated ones I saw were sitting in the the reception areas of bottom end accommodation around the Baiyoke area, also saw many carrying goods for sale.... shoes clothing ect :)

  3. First off not being a politically correct person I am not sure of the correct word to use at the moment for a black person so I am simply going to use the word black. Having not been in Bangkok for a long time I was amazed the other day while up there at the amount of black people around. especially around the Nana area.

I'm not talking about the few on holiday I'm talking about the ones well integrated into their surroundings, I don't remember it being like this a few years ago, is the Nana area being taken over by blacks the same way Pattaya has been taken over with Russians ?

  4. So it was all because you gave him the bird, but then you go on to say "i have tinted windows so how could he have know that i wasnt thai and maybe a soldier or cop on his way home. he didnt seem to care either way."

How could he see one without the other?

    Same thought I had

Its obvious. as often on the forum were not getting the whole story. :)

  5. Unless you have a specific connection at gatwick you would be better off going to Heathrow.

Having said that Emirates are not the only carrier to Gatwick either ??

    ..........................................................

I have a specific connection at Gatwick. As far as I have been told at every travel agent and also looking myself Qatar no longer fly to Gatwick. Emirates is the only airline that provides a service from Bangkok to Gatwick, all others fly to Heathrow. :)

  6. I remember the days when booking your flight in Thailand was much cheaper than booking it in the UK. I used to get a one way ticket out here so I could buy the cheaper flight back.

Then I went the next stage and booked my return ticket from here saving hundreds of pounds, maybe some of you remember doing the same ?

So whats happened ? I need to book a return flight for 3 people to London Gatwick. I know people will say go to Heathrow its much cheaper but in my case it has to be Gatwick. from Bangkok the only flight going to Gatwick is Emirates. the return price quoted is 47,000 baht for one person, 3,000 pounds Sterling for the 3 people.

The point I'm making is 47,000 baht or 1,000 pounds is the same price I'm being quoted in the UK ? whats happened to Thailand being cheaper ?

As I said I am not interested in going to Heathrow but I have checked the cost of flights there and again the Thai price is the same price as booking the flight in the UK ? Has the airlines changed their policy on tax making the cost of all flights no matter where booked the same price ?

  7. Good that the cause of death has been discovered and the family has closure ..... R.I.P.

I'm not wishing to mud sling but I would have thought that other corroboration of her handwriting should have been checked, it is conceivable that her son could write a letter and say it was his mothers.

    .....................

Thats the big let down for me in this case, it should have been checked as it was him who found the suicide note under a computer monitor in the bedroom. a suicide note is left to be found not hidden under a monitor ?

  8. I will be making a rare trip into Bangkok with the view to looking for a second hand car, I am wondering if there are certain well known areas of Bangkok where I would find the most second hand car dealers ?

Any advice , comment's , or directions most welcome , thanks

  9. Yes It's possible, I've just bought it 10 mins ago on the last day of my original 1 year warranty!

    ................................

Thanks for that , can you please tell me how you did it , did you have to go back to the shop where you

    bought your iphone from.

  10. I am looking at buying an iphone 4 from Dtac or True , is it possible once you have bought the iphone

to purchase an apple care package , which then gives you an extra longer warranty period . Has any one done

    this ? :)

  11. I will be driving from Korat to Loei and looking at the map there are two routes that can be taken, one using the 2 motorway to Khon Kaen or take the 205 then onto the 201 through Chaiyaphum. has anyone any experience of either of these routes ? Thanks for any input.

  12. Thais won't sell at a loss.

They prefer to just leave the house to rot .........

So no cheap houses, but plenty of abandoned houses.

    Same with the rental market

My landlady just informed us she is putting our rent up from 7,000bht a month to 8,000bht a month. So we move somewhere else and she has an empty house with no income and little hope of renting. She rents out 2 houses .... same for the other tenants, they are leaving too. The whole mooban is littered with abandoned houses, and houses for rent with no tenants. Thailand is a crazy place ... but sort of fun.

    .................................

Point taken sarahsbloke about Thais won't sell at a loss. but I would have thought in this present financial situation they would be FORCED to sell at a loss and are in no position to just sit and let the house or condo rot ?

  13. Lately I have been going to estate agents with my friend who is in the position of both selling a condo and looking for a house to buy. if we ask the agent about selling his condo we are told ... the market has taken a very big dive and the price of all property in Thailand is now very low, if we then say ... ok forget trying to sell my condo can you show me some of this very low priced property you have for sale he is unable to do so.

The property seems to be practically the same price as it ever was ? if the property market has crashed like they say it has we should be seeing property prices at much reduced prices like we are seeing in the USA but were not. why ?

  14. Looking at the comments so far it would seem I am by no means alone in my thinking. I can't see any justification in 120 baht entrance charge.

Somebody spoke about the The Pattaya City Expats club. How much is the door charge there ? and are you forced to have the breakfast ? :)
