  1. Today I thought I would go down to the Pattaya Expats Club. I rarely go these days as I felt the 60 baht entrance fee was a bit steep as I never bothered with the breakfast.

When I walked up to the girl on the door I was told... Life member, that's 120 baht sir :shock1:

Now even with the breakfast I personally think that is way too expensive as most of the people on stage are up there trying to sell you something. Is it that they have got it the wrong way round and it is them who should be paying us something to sit there listening to the adverts. :D

Having said that there must be those who feel they are getting value for money at the meetings ?

  2. Still just as confusing at the moment. I know we are drifting away to vit C here and I have heard about the high dosage some people are now taking but as for a general vitamin supplement for someone who may not be getting all he needs through diet is taking a general multi vitamin pill every day better than taking nothing ?

  3. I have recently been looking at multi vitamins :)

I have found it to be very confusing. Can someone clarify this point. If a multi vitamin pill like Centrum can cover all the vitamins you need why is there dozens of bottles with all the separate ingredients in ?

  4. Having mistakenly first posted this on the Chang Mai forum I better now re post it here where it belongs :jap: The Chang Mai forum was talking about obtaining the yellow book. ( the house book that shows the farang name ) Has anybody managed to get a yellow book in the Pattaya Banglamung area ?

Things always seem to be that much harder round here due to there being so many more farang.

  5. Good point... cracks me up when you have these tin roofed shacks charging upwards from 65 baht.. fair enough if they have a shophouse and a proper toilet.

Cheapest place is "Beer and Coffee" in Soi Khao Noi.....drinks are even cheaper than you pay in the 7-11 but the place always seems busy..

    .........................................................

Last night while around the Soi Khao Noi area I checked out Beer and Coffee. real good value. this is just the sort of place to go on a value for money bar list. :)

  6. cross the tracks coming from Patts..about 100 yards up on your right...open double guesthouse with a large sitting area outside... can't miss it as it really catches your eye..

    .................

Thanks William Osborne this is the kind of info we need.

I look at it like this... A saving of 20 baht on a beer after 6 beers is 120 baht, If you go out three nights a week that's 360 baht a week or 1,440 baht a month, 17,280 a year :)

I take your point Mobi about the ambiance and quality of the ladies and agree with you on that and would willingly pay the extra price for the pleasure of good company but what I have found is the ladies of the cheap price beer bars are just as good as the ladies of the expensive drinks bars, Nois bar next to Nong Yai underpass is a good example, some beautiful young girls in there, nice seating, good pool table, friendly staff and beer at 45 baht ;)

Never heard of this Noi's bar but wouldn't mind checking it out - can you explain a little more about it's location? Where is the Nong Yai underpass?

    Tom.

    ..................................

    No problem Tom.

I call it the underpass but it's just one of a few out there now so the easy way to find the bar is to go from the crocodile farm. If you come out the crocodile farm car-park and turn right heading to the overpass then it is the first bar you come to on the right. just a stone throw away from the overpass so you can't miss it :)

ps... Don't be surprised if you find out the bar is called Nongs bar. Thinking about it now it could be either name :whistling:

  8. As I do not live in central Pattaya I spend my nights out on the dark side.

It has long been apparent to me that you certainly do not get what you pay for in terms of the price you pay for your drink and the quality of surroundings.

Im not too sure if we can name any bars here so I won't but an example would be a very rickety dusty corrugated tin roof bar not too far away from a river charges 65 baht for a Singa beer while a very nicely decorated bar not far away from the new Nong Yai underpass charges 45 baht for the same beer.

The problem is you never know if your walking into a 45 Baht or a 65+ baht bar till you get the bill :(

Does anyone know if anyone has ever put together a list of the cheaper bars on the dark side ? with as much as a 20 baht saving on every drink I think in these times there would be an interest in one :whistling:

  9. I'm leaving this open to comments as I really don't know what to say ?

I have a condo that I have advertised to rent. so far I have had three people phone about it all three sounded very genuine on the phone. So after talking about it we arranged to see it the next day. I go to the condo the next day at the time we agreed on and nobody turns up. I phone them back after waiting half an hour only to be told.... oh I forgot about it mate, maybe give you a ring next week.... Im watching television at the moment I'll phone you back some time.... I found a condo last night mate....

Not one person said sorry for wasting your time. not one person phoned to cancel the appointment, not one text message to say don't bother waiting for me.

Is this normal now in this modern age or have I just been unlucky ?

Maybe I'm old school and feel that once you have made an appointment with somebody then that appointment stands unless you phone to cancel it.

Have I been left that far behind that in fact it is normal now to never honor anything you say ?

  10. Does anyone know how I can stop the constant unwanted messages from D-tac and one to call. it's just one advert after another, your just getting to sleep then there's another text advertising another load of rubbish.

I think there is a number you can call to stop the adverts ?

Any help would be much unappreciated. angry.gif

  11. Now you'v got me thinking, and that doesn't happen often.

The Airport, Why do l ALWAYS pick the wrong queue to check in, after carefully scanning what's going on l carefully pick a queue only to be nearly last seen too, and at immigration the same, always pick the wrong queue cos someone up front hasn't filled in an entry card. :D

Or in a supermarket there is a problem with their credit card

Just stay out of my queue and you'll be OK

    :D

I was in a super market last year in Auckland New Zealand in the 10 or less items and the woman in front of me had only 6.

Thats great I thought until she used five (yes 5) credit cards until there was one with enough credit.

The worst thing was that it was less than 400 baht or 25 NZD at that time.

My lips and tongue hurt for an hour after that as I bit them to stop screaming at her. :)

That small an amount and 5 credit cards? :D

Is there a smiley with steam coming out of its ears?

Yes. I think they should have a separate line for people who pay by card.

  12. Well it's nice to hear Im not alone on this. I know everybody at certain times experiences sods law but it does sound like a few others have more than their fair share of it too. :)

Like a while back when my TV broke down. I thought to myself never mind I will simply watch the other one till it comes back from the repair shop, no chance, the next day the other TV packed up too.

  13. Ive just been reading with interest a post on here about a cursed computer :)

Reading it made me think about my daily life in general. I have always been the sort of guy that if I go to buy something and there is only two left in the shop and I have to make a choice of which one to buy I will choose the one that has something missing in the box.

If I go to a restaurant the meal I want will be off the menu as they have just sold the last one to the guy sitting next to me.

If theres a choice of 10 wash hand basins then the one I walk up to will be the one that has no water. you know the kind of thing. we call it sods law or Murphys law. does anyone els get more than their fair share of this ?

  14. Anyone have a tax price on a 2009 Triton 4 door 4x4 auto 3.2 taxed on highway 36 next to regent school ?

A good friend of mine has just been complaining he paid 7,750 Baht :)

Wow, sounds like it's gone up. Was 6800bht in August.

    still 6.800

cheapest tax is for small cars, like yaris 6-800 baht. not sure if new ecocar class (less than 1200cc/120g/km CO2 will be cheaper

    .....................

I wonder if the extra 950 baht is to do with engine size ?

  15. My Thai wifes passport is due for renewal on the 15th Aug 2010.

We would like to travel to the UK in late April.  She thinks she remembers reading something about once receiving your new passport you have to wait 6 months before you can apply for a visa with it ?

I can't find anything on the passport web site about this so has anybody got any information on this matter  ?    :)

  16. A brand new standard "Hardley able to" is in fact a quiet bike, they have baffles same as real bikes.

The reason they are all so noisy is that noise is all they have.... baffles are removed on most while still in the showroom. :)

  17. All BS.....there is virus/chest infection going around...not TB.....know of 2 people who have just caught it on a visit to Singapore, and believe its doning the rounds in Malaysia as well

So seeing at Pattaya is full of tourists could we suggest the toursits have brought it in, instead of scaremongering about TB etc etc

This is not just a five minuet thing. this Pattaya cough has been around for a few years now. it's there off season too.

    As for TB...

    TB epidemic in Thailand

Thailand has the 17th highest incidence of tuberculosis in the world

Bangkok Metropolitan Administration Health Department deputy director Dr Chanchai Kumphong said 90,000 people were infected with tuberculosis every year. About 15,000, or 16.5 per cent, are in Bangkok. :)

Anyone who thinks this is BS just google TB Thailand.

Seems odd this TB thing in Thailand. As anyone who has taken their wives back to the UK know they have to have a Ministry certificate to say they are free of TB.

Whilst the Uk husband who has lived with them for years in Thailand does not need one. Strange logic. 50% of the

couple is clear of TB but the other 50% may not be.

    ...............................

    Sounds a crazy situation ?
