  1. many people have TB from sharing tiny living area with 5 people

Yes. I think theres a lot more TB around than people know of. I know of two Thais myself with TB, but there are other symptoms with it like night sweats ect.

I think the dry cough we hear everywhere in Pattaya is something to do with air quality ?

  2. For a few years now I have noticed that half the people in Pattaya seem to have a dry cough, Ive heard it refered to as.. The Pattaya cough.

For those who haven't noticed just take note next time your in public it's everywhere.

Is it air quality or what ?

  3. Queen Sirikit already has a dual pricing system in place for OPD.

30 baht for Thai and 200 baht for farangs as written on a sign on the walls

Maybe this new system will be across the board for all services and meds.

Yes. I can confirm this as I was there yesterday. they are now asking 500 bht for an EKG.  I told them it is only 450 bht at Bangkok Pattaya. then the price came down to 300 bht.

Another thing I noticed was no matter how early you get there the farang folder is always on the bottom of the pile.

  4. I have a friend who is a doctor there and he just told me there is discussion about a two-tier pricing scheme, one price for Thai and another for farang. He thinks this will eventually happen but needs to be approved at various levels of military and government which will take time.

    ........................................

Well no surprise to hear that. it would seem that is their answer to not wanting us there ?

  5. Thanks everybody for the very very good advice, Tammi thanks for the offer and yes I am doing all this alone (not easy as I get the impression some of the staff in that hospital are not too happy about falang being there

The above quote is from a 2007 post about the Queen sirikit military hospital Sattahip

My experience was the same back then that they did not want farang in there. does anybody know if the situation has changed since then ?   :)

  6. I see today that the boss of Seaside 2 restauraunt has died. The restauraunt is closed till further notice.

He was one of the first Thais I got to know when I came here years ago. I think he will be missed by many farang.

condolences to his wife and family.

  7. Yes robblok I have a G5. As for your question about how loud it is ? I have found it to be fine in that department. also there is the loud speaker option if you want that.

As for the signal strength I cant help you there. I have only used the phone in Pattaya and Korat :)

The only downside that I can say with the G5 is the instruction book is all in Thai. I have looked everywhere for an English one on the internet but have found nothing. the G5 can do many things, even has sound effects on your phone calls if you want them, you can make people think your standing on a pavement or riding a motorbike, it's a great phone but the lack of an English instruction book is a problem.

  8. I have a G-Net G5. My wife has an iphone 3G. Being in the position to use both phones a comment I would make is that the feature of two sims on the G5 is very useful. one for friends and family, the other number can be given to sales reps ect, you can dispose of the second number and replace it if the reps become a problem. :D

Also the G5 has a flash, a point worth concidering as photos with the G5 can be taken in darkness :)

Also I find sending a text or email faster with the G5 as you can use a stylus or pen / pencil on the screen. that will not work on the iphone screen you have to use your finger, ok if your nine years old with a finger as thin as a pencil but as a big guy with large hands it can be very fiddly.

Im not saying that the G5 is a better phone than the iphone, but what I am saying is dont be too quick to write it off as rubbish, also not forgetting it's 20,000 baht cheaper too.

  9. If you want to do you friend a favour, I suggest you don't publicise this too much.

You'd be surprised who reads this forum, and you may give them ideas to start checking on those who didn't renew their visas.

If "the authorities" are doing their jobs correctly (which I doubt), they will not need to waste their personal time reading the stuff on this forum.

Errr??? Any idea how many crimes are solved by following leads and information from the Internet???? I know it might sound stupid but most people are truly the victims of their own demise.....and the Internet is a perfect to begins ones descent.

    .....................

If your right then everybody on beach road without a visa will be arrested. lets see what happens :)

  10. I was surprised to hear from a friend the other day that his visa had ran out and he was not going to bother to renew it as he was no longer in the financial position to do so.

He went on to say he knew of 4 other farangs down pattaya beach road who also had not bothered to obtain a visa for the same financial reasons. looks like a sign of the times. :D

Clearly you must be mistaken, as it is not permitted to remain in the kingdom without a valid visa. Just as it is illegal to ride a motorcycle without a crash helmet or go through a red light. :D

Yes. Maybe I heard him wrong. :)

  11. Some very interesting points made here and Mobis comments were spot on.

But it does seem to me that all this.... Don't ever get cought without a visa or you'll be in big trouble is not quite true ? maybe it is if you have money but if you do not have anything :)

  12. Maybe you should go visit a Thai jail sometime and see if you still want to stay without a visa.

Im begining to doubt the ferocity of pattaya immigration against what could be called farang beggers on beach road.

A farang with no money is no good to a Thai. no backhander can be paid to anyone. he has no possessions of any value. no money for an air ticket.

To send him home will cost Thailand money. to keep him in jail will also cost money. I think thats why their just leaving them on beach road ?

Maybe with ever increasing numbers they will have to change their policy ?

As you make your bed you lay in it.

  15. He doesn't seem to be harming anyone and he's actively getting involved in community stuff instead of getting pissed in beer bars all day so fair play to him.

    :)

I agree with you but if he's been here 40 years why has he not been involved in community work untill recently :D

  16. Fruity is now stating... I now speak Thai fluently along with six dialects. Listening to him on TV and youtube it is quite clear this is compleat BS.

Apart from Frutin Travel has anybody got any FACTS that he had any influence or connections with these groups in the 60s ?

Try this link, hit Control-F and type in Martin Frutin

    http://www.rockingscots.co.uk/other.htmy

AT the end of his short biography you will see a picture of him with Frankie Miller taken in Thailand. Also alludes to his assistant John Reid, who eventually managed Elton John

I was around at that time and too much of what is written is true enough to shake off any doubts on my part. He is a bit of an eccentric, but then who isn't in Pattaya.

One thing though. Every TV set ever made has an On-Off function either on a remote or on the set itself. If you don't like the man, just press that button or change channels. I am sure he doesn't need pointless critiscm of his act, cos that is all it is. An act.

    .........................

That is the exact site I was looking at. it's all there is. there are no FACTS there as it is written by Fruity himself.

I have not stated anywhere I do not like the man. he's a character and amusement to many of us. all I am saying is he appears to be creating his past ?

Same as... Ive been in Thailand for 40 years. Where ? I have asked many expats like myself who have been here over 10 years and no one can recall ever hearing about him until recently ? and for sure such a flamboyant character would have been noticed. :)

  18. just play with the real thing first at one of the shops that have it. however... even if you've never used an iphone, I bet you can tell the chinese copies apart - they're really, really crappy past the home screen.

Well it looks like thats about the best I can do. seems crazy to me that all we can do is take a guess that it's a copy by some gut feeling that it is :)

  19. The 15k was quoted for an 8gb phone. I think the back was plastic ?

I understand what your saying about beyond the main screen things are different but unless your familiar with a genuine iphone you wont know any better.

There must be another way by access to data to tell if its genuine or not ? can't seem to find it on the internet anywhere tho :)

  20. I am thinking about getting an iphone. as the new price quoted me was 27.000B I am now thinking of second hand. looking around in Tuk com I have seen some very good copys. even with what I think is a fake serial number on the back. The second hand price is about 15.000B

How can you tell if you have a genuine iphone or a very good copy ? :)

  21. One thing Im thinking of here is ... If when wet the light is still lit but electricity is running to earth somehow, are you going to pay more on your electric bill for the electric running to earth ?

No because your ELCB will cut the power in the event of an earth fault :)

Of course, if you don't have an ELCB then you'll pay for all the power that passes through your meter.

    ....................................

If that's right Crossy just think of all the electric running to earth in Thailand in general from all the exposed overhead wires when it rains.... I have always been amazed that more people do not get a shock walking passed all these wires so close to the footpath :D
