  1. seems like putting the sign in russian "for russians only" would be a recipe for business disaster.

russians would logically be the main customers, would eat russian food anyway, and of course would drink vodka.

put the sign in english/thai and get non russians to try russian food and wash it down with some free shots of cold vodka. make the russians pay for theirs.

  2. Just found a photo of what I'm after - stovetop type.

    Anyone seen one around??

    R

Have not seen one on the left in years!

It's almost cheaper to got to Starbucks or other coffee shop and just bye ready made coffee or a a year, just not convenient!

My Electrolux coffee maker is a pain in the neck it not set exactly right .... it all spills over the counter... :annoyed: Only thing I could find when I was looking 2 -3 years ago!

Perhaps Joe could bring back a boot / trunk full on next trip to Malaysia ;) (Using UK and North American term there!)

i've always got some extra space but my markup is outrageous :D

  3. hey rob i only use a french press because i've found that no matter when and if makro or tesco has a new shipment of coffee makers in, there are never any replacement parts for when someone drops the pot and i also don't think boiling water belongs anywhere near my coffee grounds. i'm quite familiar with percolators however i've never seen any on samui yet they are available nationwide in robinsons dept. store.

my annual trek to penang almost invariably includes a stop at robinsons in hat yai to buy another french press, last year i was lucky and it was a 2 for 1 sale.

  4. For us uninitiated, what is TCP ?

and here i thought i was the only one left out. i used to use a product called TCP back in the states to clean grime and dirt off of the paneling on the sides of my house. i don't suppose there's any need for that here and the only thing you'd need at the pharmacy related to TCP was in the event you inhaled it or didn't wear gloves.

  5. did he lift his chin up and to his left while telling you "one month" as if he were in a meditative thoughtful dream state or was he looking directly into your eyes and say "one (more) month"?

i think the general consensus is that anything 3g related in thailand is to be filed under "believe it when you see it" but as an iphone user i'm obviously looking forward to this now outdated technology.

  6. yes, what happened to personal responsibility? in a country that considers it a national sport to shirk responsibility and lower the bar for moral turpitude, it's a sign of good character that we honor the arrangements that others so casually dismiss. i don't care so much about the 500 baht overstay, if my mom found out i overstayed she'd hit me with a guilt trip so bad i'd happily pay 500 baht to make it go away.

  7. "from feedback i got from a few bikers they wont be coming back, unless samui sorts the roads out, as alot of these big sport bikes couldnt handle samui dodgy roads and 34,978 pot holes ( the road outside chaweng lake was a mess , and still is)"

so, there is some good to be found in having the worst roads in the kingdom.

bike week is about as welcome as a fart in a crowded elevator imo. any chance they can host the samui bike week in pattaya next year? :D

  8. chinese and thai engineers and labor. i don't foresee any problems there whatsoever.

i can envision a time 40 years from now when this project is complete, looking up at the information board to buy a ticket...

    1) arrive at a destination safely...XXXX baht

    2) arrive at a destination quickly...XXX baht

    3) arrive at the correct destination...XXXXX baht

    4) surcharge for any combination of above items...XXXXXXXXXX baht
