  1. All this talk of Thai bashing is absolute category one garbage, anyone reaching for a keyboard to type that phrase in needs their head examined.

Carnage on the roads is not acceptable......deaths on the road are unavoidable........but carnage is something else altogether.

The way the Thai driving licences are issued starts the whole sorry process off on the wrong foot,,,,,,,,the way that they will transport people at high speed in the back of pick up trucks and songthaews then adds to the certainty of carnage following........the patchy enforcement of road safety and vehicle laws then adds a bit more.

I could go on......there are plenty of police and road check points throughout the country........Thailand could make a vast difference to road safety very quickly if it put it's mind to it.

    edit

    ps

How many passenger seats on aircraft could be filled by dead tourists every year in Thailand? People who left their home countries full of vigour and excitement, and going home dead?

How many times do we need to fight this stupid Thai bashing argument on Thaivisa?

You can lead a horticulture but you can't make her think.

Same as trying to make many, not all, Thais consider the consequences od their actions. Every Thai teenager should be made spend a few hours in a hospital A&E department --- see the consequences of bad motorbike riding and bad driving.

The government shoud make reduction of road deaths a priority and instruct the police accordingly. Sadly the police are more about helmets, t-money and nod road safety.

  2. Maybe this is why Thais let foreigners buy condos here. Does not sound like suicide to me. Where else do you hear of people falling from a condo to end it all. Something wrong but the police have their excuse not to bother to investigate I guess. All nice and cleanly wrapped up!!!!!!!

Seems the favourite hobby on TV is not balcony jumping but jumping to conclusions. If you dont know - dont guess.

  3. The paranoia surrounding pseudophedrine is as you say and is being driven by the America Drug Enforcement Agency which has its tentacles all over the place.

But, yet, pseudophedrine is widely available over the counter in the USA?

Widely available in the UK but try tp buy more than two boxes and you get the third degree.

  4. gout isn't necessarily due to alcohol intake. My Thai FIL does not drink alcohol at all, never has. Is in fact a teetotaller. But he has gout. He eats alot of seafood (not much meat really) and frankly, perspires more than most people. He works very hard doing physical work outside regularly and does not take in enough water. I suspect that is the true cause of both his kidney stones many years ago and now his gout.

My dad had gout many years ago and drank apple cider vinegar in hot water with some honey. He swears by cherries. Interestingly, it doesn't seem to be an old wives tale

    http://arthritis.web...-gout-flare-ups

Seafood especially mussles and prawns can be a nightmare for gout sufferers as can offal...........

  5. BTW, if they are about to get crowded based on this forum discussion, they don't know that yet. There is no way they are prepared for that. Should be interesting (but probably not in a good way). You've been warned.

Thanks for the updates on this place. May head down later today --- good chance for my wife to practise her Putonghua.... while I eat

  6. Friend ship sells it. Also there is a shop on 3Rd road between South pattaya Rd and soi lenke that sells it. Think its even printed on the sign.

The place on third road has a huge brown/white sign but reads PITA bread not naan If we are thinking about the same place.

  7. Are you named on the Birth Certificate?

It used to be the case that the children of an unmarried couple found it difficult(not impossible) to get British citizenship but this is a special case and I am sure the circumstances would be taken into consideration, after all you are now the child's legal guardian whether married or otherwise, aren't you?

I am on the Birth Certificate. I am not leaving my daughter. I don't know what process to follow though. Do I just straight apply for the passport. I have a letter from the mother requesting a British Passport. I am again reminded why I don't use these forums due to stupid comments from some individuals. Thanks for any comment that comes with serious care for the life of another.

If you are on the birth certificate first step in a notarised translated copy. Easy to do in BKK --- get the translation stamped at MOFA.

Now get yourself and all your documents along to the Embassy. Check exactly what you need online. First you must submit an application for citizenship for your daughter. IIRC this will take about one month. You can submit your passport application at the same time and request they process this when the citizenship document arrives.

    Good luck

  8. I'm on the case! cowboy.gif I am surprised to hear about goat on the menu though. Yes, I know the Chinese eat everything but first time I've heard of a Chinese goat dish. I've also never seen goat on ANY menu in Thailand. I like goat when cooked properly but it is a VERY strong meat that you can often taste the next day. Are you sure it was really goat or maybe a translation issue, like maybe it was mutton?

I'm not fully clear on where Soi Welcome is. I have found most of the restaurants around that general location to be dreary tourist traps. So is it at Soi 14 or is it at the same soi as the Welcome Beach Hotel?

Goat and mutton is often eaten in Western China due to the Muslim influence. Many Chinese muslim estuarants have popped up in cities populated by migrant workers. In fact I have seen the odd goat tethered outside restuarants in Southern China waiting to be ordered and dispatched accordingly.

Surprised to hear of it in Jomtien - perhaps JT can up date us if he tries the food.

  9. OP Android is very intuitive --- just play with your device and experiment. Think of one task at a time you would like to perform, google that task, learn the task from whatever source and move on. My son, 9, mastered it in about one week. Tuition not required just a basic ability to comprehend what you expect from the device ands an ability to use google.

  10. Bit late in posting but our experience renewing a passport was totally positive. Went to BKK with the wife and went to the Ministry. She took a number and I noticed a 'very large' number of people in front of her. Being the eternal pessimist I bought a newspaper, coffee and a snack before settling down for a long wait.

Wife was out with everything complete including submitting details to EMS ------ all IN LESS THAN 45 MINUTES. Very efficient.

    Passport duly delivered via EMS.

    Great service by any standard.

  11. I still need clarification of something some posters have claimed:

    - Is it impossible for a person not in the nation to file for divorce [in the UK]? Cannot use power of attorney?

Any person or entity, can instigate legal proceding within the UK provided they have a valid address in the UK to which documents etc can be served. As for the divorce in Scotland all that is required is for either party directly involved to simply go to Scotcourts website and look for simplified divorce procedure forms, download the form, complete the required documentation and arrange for it to be submitted with the appropriate fee, only one party in the procedings must have resided, or presently be residing, in Scotland, provided the grounds for a divorce are met the courts will commence procedings as appropriate.

Thank you very much for this explanation.

So is it correct, according to my understanding, that the divorce would be able to be filed and proceed even if she isn't in the country?

What is she likely to directly gain from being on location?

Divorce proceedings could be filed and executed WITHOUT her being in the Scotland - that is 100percent correct.

She gains publicity in the UK and access to UK FREE legal aid from a law firm prepared to take the case on a contingency basis........ where the lawyer takes a substantial chunk of any award.

  12. Typical TV post - someone wants quality food but does not want to spend money. Think what you can make fpr 50-100 baht and that is the quality of food you should be expecting. Nothing wrong with eationg cheap but dont expect Gordon Ramsay to be doing the cooking.

Typical snobbish TV post, only comprehending what he expects to read.

I'm just looking for the best items on the menu, not looking for perfection for under 100 baht

Then visit regular and try all items. Only you can decide what is best for you and to your taste.

  13. #1 go to the VFS website section feedback and complaints ---- list your complaint in detail.

#2 CRITICAL -- write a strongly wordedletter to the Consular Section of the Embassy again detailing your complaints.

Embassies worldwide do monitor locaf VFS performance

    Dont forget YOUR contact number.

Above two steps usually sees a few cages rattled and you should end up with a new appointment

Interesting advice here, certainly if you feel that VFS has acted incorrectly you should make a complaint, however I'm not sure that it's "CRITICAL" that you complain to the Consular Section at the embassy. Visa applications are handled by the UKBA, not the Consular Section, their only connection is that they share the same building. By all means write to the ECM, but, if recent reports from those in the know are anything to go by, then I doubt very much if they will send anything more that a generic response, they certainly will not phone OP.

NanLaew makes a valid point about about a reason to return being a very important area to address in the application, I would have thought that if it had not been addressed it would have been mentioned in the refusal notice, I should have said that I would have hoped that it would have been mentioned in the refusal notice.

This thread does highlight the importance of researching the requirements and providing sufficient, meaningful but not overwhelming, evidence to support the application. Applicants should be encouraged to be robust in their dealings with VFS employees.

My original comments were based on previous experience in which my Thai wife received discorteous, disrespectful comments from local VFS staff. Tried complaining to VFS - nothing.

I then involved the local consular staff (this was NOT in Thailand). Within two days I had the aplogetic VFS manager on the phone trying to resolve the original problem.

This process may not work for the OP - it was merely a suggestion based on my own experiences.

IMHO beats wasting money on visa companies.
