  1. Prachumporn Buracharoen, who chairs the Thai Federation of General and Central Hospital Doctors, said that if Rajata were given the Public Health Ministry portfolio, existing officials would have to adjust to his management style. On the other hand, they would not need to make any changes if Narong took over as they were accustomed to his style.

Looks like Ms Prachumporn Buracharoen is a contender for the Ministry of Style, Pomp and Other Important Things.

  2. I have been hit 2x - both times the police held sort of an informal hearing at the station, using little toy cars for illustration and both times they found in my favor. And yes, it is a pain to have to wait for the insurance agents to arrive, but that seems to be the system. In both cases the police were courteous and supportive. Good luck and glad you were only inconvenienced and not hurt.

Hah, that's why they are called the Boys in Brown...

  3. "precipitation on Wednesday reached 59 millimetres, many areas suffered from inundation on Wednesday because although the precipitation was not huge, the first 100mm in those areas it could not be drained away fast enough."

    Erm.........

There must be an obvious difference between millimetres and mm in the scientific community, where the heck is it?

  4. A criminal court in the capital ruled that it did not have jurisdiction to hear the case because Abhisit and his then-deputy Suthep Thaugsuban were holders of public office at the time and acting under an emergency decree.

It said the only court with the authority to consider the allegations was the Supreme Court's Criminal Division for Holders of Political Positions.

Leave it to the Pheu Thai Government to file the case at the wrong venue. Regardless of Abhisit/Suthep guilty or not, Pheu Thai again proves their total ineptitude in anything they try to accomplish and that with numerous lawyers and legal experts in their own camp. Priceless...

  5. The hearing of the verdict came after one of the convicts, Pol Sgt Maj Sawek Kanthama, appealed the Supreme Court against the order of the Appeals Court which revoked the order of the first court declaring that the diamond embezzlement case against him was final.

In revocation of the order he was then named among the four convicts earlier acquitted by the first court of the charges and faced same charge in the state prosecutor’s appeal to the second court.

Ok, glad that this is cleared up.

To Thai PBS, The Broadcaster I can Trust: appreciate your concise reporting and the effort that went into explaining the bowel movements of the judicial system.

  6. Just look at the hands and wrists of a 9 year old...there are no muscles to hold a gun straight, now imagine a Uzi on automatic...bam, bam, bam, bam, going up, up, up, left, right...now I would like to ask the parents and the gun range guys one question: Do you think this incident could have been avoided with a bit of thinking?

Answer; No, because the parents wanted the home movie and pictures at all costs.

  7. He said each set of the Polymerase Chain Reaction kits cost Bt300,000 and they can carry out 100 tests. There are three different brands of test kits imported from Germany and China.

    From 2 days ago:

In another development, Dr Apichai Mongkol, director-general of Medical Sciences Department, said 100 sets of German-made medical equipment used for testing Ebola disease on suspected patients will arrive in Thailand today. Each medical kit costs about Bt3,000, he added.

Ahem, where is the scratch-my-head smiley?

  8. Why do we need a coup-maker to do simple things?

    The Nation

Clampdown on illegal beach vendors and strict law enforcement should have been done under democratic governments

Yes, these simple things should have been done under democratic governments, but they weren't. Therefore, yes, you need a coup-maker to do simple things.

Is this simple assessment clear and simple enough for you to understand?

The next logical question is: Do we need politicians who can't even do simple things?

  9. "I am only here to help you, the media and relevant businesses to understand the law," said Second Lieutenant Taweesak Jintajiranan. "This law was put into effect due to the rapidly growing costs of alcohol to this nation. Alcohol-related accidents have increased significantly in recent years. While the government makes 70 billion baht income per year from alcohol tax, the cost to the government is upwards of 150 billion baht."

"And I am here to tell you that this law was put into effect, because we, the BiB, do not have the motivation to properly enforce any existing laws. So, therefore we lay the blame of these accidents and incidents squarely on the shoulders of the industry, can't really blame ourselves now, can we? On the other hand, if you wish to consume alcohol as before, just visit the establishments owned by your friendly neighborhood cop and all should be right as rain."

On a side note, couldn't they find a First Lieutenant to give this speech?
