  1. The way that the net is being monitored at the moment,i'm not sure that it is a good idea to be accusing the police in Uthom Phon Pisai of being yaba dealers, and specifically naming the chief of police there as being the main man in charge of the dealing. As the op on this topic, i live in a small village next to uthom, and while i agree that some people are getting tipped off when a raid is on the way. I would still be very wary of naming individuals.

  2. Bermondburi, so if your nephew was guilty in the past, do you think we should feel sorry for him now. Do you think that when he was lining his pockets, that he considered that some of the people he was selling to may have been young kids who's lives he was ruining. I bet he didn't give a flying f#ck as long as he was getting his money. I say they should have shot him and rid the area of yet another lazy arsed scumbag that didn't want to do proper work to earn a living.

  3. It seems like the army are coming down hard on the yaba dealers. Since last sunday we have had 3 early morning raids in our small village. And there have been a few in the past several weeks. Funny thing is I can't recall any in the last few years by the police.

  4. guys if they charge  80 baht for a bottle of water, what makes you think  that the wine and cheese would be free. They have a great location, it is owned by the Marriot, so no rent to pay, and yet they are the most expensive bar in Pattaya when they could be the cheapest. It makes no sense .

  5. What happened to the promise made by the president of the State Railways that if another train derailed he would resign. A promise made the day before he was on the train that derailed on the new relaid line, that he was re-opening at the time

  8. Need help please I have a friend who needs some documents translated fron thai to english. She lives 25 kilometres outside of Sisaket on the Surin side. Looking for someone in Sisaket, Surin or even Ubon. Thanks in advance for your help.

  9. Let's face it, Acorn screwed up at the old Shenanigans and they will screw up in Jomtien. Their first mistake was sacking Stuart. Here was a guy that was well respected by the customers, and it was only his ideas that kept the place going. But as usual a company that failed miserably in one venue thinks they can go somewhere else and be a success. I wish i could have a one to one conversation with the owners, and ask them what their plan was, on how to make a sucess of Jomtien, but of course they will never listen. I challenge anyone who is in charge of Acorn to PM me and ask me for my opinions on how to make a sucess of Jomtien, but they never will. I ran very sucessful bars in the UK for 30 years, and I will bet my life that Acorn will either put this bar up for sale or shut down within one year.So go on, anyone from Acorn PM me and ask for advice.

  10. Geriatrickid, you really do talk a load of Bollo*ks. Firstly let's talk about the hiso's. member for member Thaksins goverment were far richer than the Democrats goverment, but i must admit they weren't when first elected, but by the time that thaksin crapped himself and fled they were. As for Yingluck not using the army to inflict violence on the protesters, there is only one reason for that. It is because the army would refuse to do it. And just remind me will you, when the (peaceful) red shirts occupied Bangkok in 2010, did they not set up blockades using sharpened bamboo poles, and burning tyres, as well as of course many buildings getting burned down from accidental sparks caused by the burning tyres. I wish apologists like you would wake up to the fact that the Thaksin regime has ruined this country, and now even the poor are realising, that in the past although they got less for their rice, at least they were paid for it.

  11. bazmlb, with the greatest respect everyone on here knows after you praised dicey's burger special on here on another topic that you are a friend of the guy that runs dicey's and that you are slightly biassed. I have no problem with that. But one special doesn't make a great bar, and the more specials you have to promote, then the less confident that you are in the bars ability to stand on it's reputation.

The fact is that dicey's promotes itself as a Pub/Restaurant/Sports bar, but in actual fact the whole layout and price structure of the bar is wrong. If you want to be a busy restaurant, why would you put a very large circular bar smack bang in the middle of your main selling area, and lose two thirds of your space. The bar should have been placed on the wall opposite the kitchens. That way people who wanted to watch sport would not have to walk past dining tables to get to the bar.

As for the prices of your drinks, the last time i was in there i was charged 130 baht for a pint of tiger, i can get that same pint anywhere in pattaya for a maximum of 99 baht, but far worse was being charged 80 baht for a bottle of water.I would love you to tell me how many people who come in for the nightly specials, actually stay on to buy drinks at the none special prices. I would guess very few.

I applaud you for putting up decking outside, but I don't think that this will impact to much on your trade. At the end of the day you are a trying to promote yourself as a bar that is also showing sports from all over the world, but you are charging top hotel prices for your drinks. As i said how many customers after they have eaten the specials actually stay to watch sports, and pay the inflated drink prices.

  12. I find this amazing. The Acorn group buy the Shennanigans in Pattaya, make a complete mess of running it, close it down, and move on to Shennanigans in Jomtien. First move sack the manager, who has been there for a few years, and by all accounts is pretty popular and doing a decent job.

So is anyone taking any bets on how long it will be before jomtien closes down. You have to ask if the people behind this group have ever run a pub/restaurant in their lives or if they are just successful businesmen in other fields, who think running such a place is easy. I have run bars for many years and believe me it is not easy, especially here when dealing with staff of a completely different culture. But the aim is still the same,"Customer Satisfaction". If you don't achieve that then you will fail.

But it is not just the Acorn group that don't seem to be able to run a bar/restaurant properly. Another great example is the Marriot/Minor group who run Dicey Reilly's. Despite being a world reknowned company famous for it's service and hospitality, they just can't seem to make a success of a small bar, in a popular holiday resort. Boggling.

  13. Sorry "Cloghead" you are 100% wrong. Dicey Reilly's is owned and operated by the Marriot/Minor group. If you go for a position say as Pub Manager at Dicey's you are interviewed by the Food and Beverage manager from the Marriot. And all staff are employed by the Marriot/Minor group.

  14. Here's an intereting scenario. Yingluck asks for permission to borrow billions of bhat to pay the farmers. The EC refuse her permission. Yinluck in panic mode calls all her advisers to a meeting, and says if we can't pay the farmers now, we have no chance of winning the election, so let's agree to the EC's request for a postponement, and maybe we can find a way to get the money for the farmers from elsewhere. So off she goes to the EC, and says ok we will call of the election until May. But the EC replies, sorry but you have already told the country that it would be illegal to call off the election, so it has to go ahead. Oh shit, what do i do now.
