  1. Sirchai, how very harsh of you to suggest that arsenal and Borussia fans are burger eating hooligans. You obviously can't be referring to me, because i fill my buns with crispy bacon, eggs and tomatoes. My best friend in Thailand is a german guy down in Pattaya, he owns a bar there. Everytime he tries to tell me how superior the german people are over the brits I have a little saying for him "2 world wars and 1 world cup <deleted> ya <deleted> ya". all in good fun mate. I remeber you trying to do all you could to help Gerhardt a while ago, he lived about 2 kilometres from me, and i always found him to be a good man, but after he split from his wife and moved to Sisaket, i rarely saw him. anyway hope we meet one day for a beer and a BURGER.

  2. Well Niwpix, when i come bacl next month, and i will be back, for my oversized burger buns, i will wear my Manchester City shirt, and you can talk to a real football man. And if that "Arsenal" guy wants to join in, we can talk about the last time his team won a trophy, HA HA. Just joking Patriot.

  3. Micheal hare what a pathetic statement. we are not talking about 20 years ago, we are talking about today. When you walk into a bakery early in the morning, would you not expect to smell fresh baked bread.

  4. Once again i am not in anyway saying anything bad about peppers products. This is just about personal taste. The things that i originally went for the burger buns are great, and i agree about the cakes they too are absolutely great. It was just that the bread wasn't to my liking, the filling in the mince and onion pie was also really tasty, but the pastry not to my liking. Sorry if i have upset anyone.

  5. Here I am reporting back. I have always been very picky about food. Back in the Uk, my wife had to buy a fresh loaf of bread everyday, I could not eat bread that was more than a day old. As for pastry I am used to pastry that is made with lard, and not butter. I realise that lard is very hard to come by in Thailand.

Sadly as soon as I opened the bread i bought today, it had a slight vanilla smell to it, which told me that it had been made with butter, I don't know if it was thai or australian butter, but I just could not eat it, and the same thing applied to the pastry in the pie. The filling of the pie was great, it had a good hint of pepper about it, and I love pepper.

As I said I can only eat bread that is baked on the day I buy it.

And obviously this bread was not baked today. The thing I don't understand is that my "Over sized Burger Buns" taste fantastic, do they use a different recipe for these buns.

As I said a great looking shop, but sadly for me, not what I am looking for. Please don't give me loads of grief over my comments, because obviously not all our tastebuds are the same. Many people will love Peppers bread and pies, but sadly not for me.

  6. Well. I finally made Peppers this morning at about 9-30am. I was very impressed by the shop, very clean and well set out. I met a guy who I think was the guy who just sold the place, and he was very ameanable. I got my "Oversized burger buns" and i also bought a loaf of bread, only one until I know if I like it. I also bought some pies, which I have to say looked delicious, and I will be trying them in about 1 hour along with the bread. i also bought a couple of burgers, once again to find if I liked them. And my wife, like all thais has a sweet tooth, and so she bought a black forest cake and a white chocolate cake. she loved them.

If I can have a small critisism, when I walk into a bakery early in the morning in the Uk, the first thing I want is the smell of freshly baked bread, unfortunately I didn't get it, which tells me that the bread I bought wasn't baked today. And when you go into a bakery in the Uk there is always a display of freshly baked bread. That wasn't there.

I am about to eat my pie, with chips and gravy, and I hope to have a really good chip butty. will let you know soon if I enjoyed it.

  7. So when i come to buy my "oversized burger buns" can i buy the burgers with them to take home and cook myself. Also do peppers make a good pie, like mince and onion, meat and potatoe, steak. It is very hard to get a good pie in Thailand. I have tried Staffords from Prassat, they were average but very dry, no moisture. Steve from Buriram were better, and his corned beef pasties are great. But i long for a good pie. cheers guys.

  8. In order to make sure i never had the worry of the guiness going a little bit off, i ran clean water through my lines every night after closing. This ensured i had fresh guiness to start off the next day, and fortunately we were busy enough to make sure that it was never in the pipe long enough during opening hours.

  9. Can anyone in Ubon tell me what time Peppers usally have their fresh baked bread ready. I will be arriving in Ubon around about 9am, and was wondering if that would be to early to get some fresh baked bread. cheers.

  10. I also found it very strange, because a large bottle of leo, before the price rise was 50baht. But the wholsale price went up by 7 baht a bottle, so i would understand if the price in the shop went up by 10baht a bottle, but for me she only put it up by 5 baht, and even when i was told the price for thais, and i offered to pay 60baht, the lady said no for farang only 55baht.

  11. We are always hearing about how farangs are charged more than thais. Well here is a refreshing change. I often use a little shop in my village, when I don't have my Singha Lite. Yesterday I was at a funeral, and we needed some beer, so I aked a thai guy to go and get me 6 bottles of Leo. I gave him 330baht (55baht a bottle) He said not enough it is 60Baht a bottle, so i said I will go with you, and lo and behold it was only 55 for me, but the lady in the shop said it was 60 for thai people, to say I was shocked is a understatement. One up for the farangs.

  12. Firstly let me say no one has to worry about my liver. I have many friends who come to my home and are always welcome to a beer or several. What I am very surprised about is that after I posted yesterday I recieved a e-mail from someone who works at the brewerey. He tried to explain to me why the price had risen so much, and in his opinion it was obviously down to the goverment. Unfortunately english was not his first language, but judging by his name he was not thai either.I will post a copy of his e-mail if i get his permission to do so. I would not want to get him into trouble. He says that he is a brewmaster.

But to be honest his explanation does not show why singha light with an ABV of 3.5% which has always been cheaper to buy than it's big brother who has an ABV of 5% should suddenly have a price increase of 27%, and i might add that as long as i have lived in thailand(over10 years) singha light has always been cheaper than singha full strenghth. And another slight anomally a single bottle of Singha full strength is still more expensive than a bottle of singha lite.

  13. I love Singha Light Beer. The last time I was in Makro in Sisaket was when they where selling off all the old stocks of beer, before the price rise kicked in. Fortunately for me it seems i was the only one who wanted Singha Lite, they had 8 cases at the old price of 482Baht, so i bought them all. Yesterday on my monthly visit to Makro I went to buy some Singha Lite and could not believe the price rise, it had gone up to 605 baht a case. this is a rise(and i'm not good at maths) of around 27.5% a case.

So I didn't buy any.On my way home I called in Bigc in Sisaket and found that I could buy a large bottle of Singha Lite for 48baht a bottle, making the case price 576 baht. So I asked the assistant for 6 cases of Singha Lite, but was told I could buy Leo, Singha,Cheers, and Chang by the case but not Singha Lite or San Miguel Lite by the case. When I asked why The assistant did not know why. I could probably have embarrased her by asking to see the manager, but it really was not worth it. I even offered to buy 6 cases in single bottles of Singha Lite, as long as they gave me the empty boxes but was told no, sorry we can't do that.I would love someone to explain the logic in thai thinking.

P.S. the price of 482 baht per case of Singha LIte was not a sell off price, this had been the price for many months previously.

  14. Thanks guys. bunnydrops will ask wife to give me redipe, but she finds it hard to explain somethings. If you are with a thai lady it may be easier for me to get my wife to write it out in thai and i will send it to you.

  15. Hi guys I really love bbq spare ribs, all be it in england i only get them from the chinese restaurants. My wife makes the most fantastic thai style ribs, loaded with garlic and other spices, and all my friends who visit from england say that they prefer hers to the chinese ones they get back home. In fact they reckon if she went to england and opened a shop selling them, she would be a millionaire within 2 years ha ha. But I really miss my sticky style ribs, so please someone give me a recipe for a good sauce. Bearing in mind I am just outside sisaket, and only have big c, tesco and makro for ingredients, and that they don't have the same stock as say pattaya and bangkok. thanks in advance for any recipes.

  16. was hoping to go into sisaket today to stock up on pies, bacon bread ect, from franks, and also go to big c. I live 30k's from sisaket (surin side) and was told yesterday that it was too flooded to get there. Anyone know if the main roads are passable today. cheers.

  17. I have just contacted true visions to tell them i wanted to cancel my subscription. I wanted to see what deal they offered me. I have platinum package, and they offered me 3 months at the reduced rate of 1000 baht per month. So I quoted them some of the deals that other people on here had been offered ie Pattaya28 ( platinum at 599 baht, They have assured me that no one has been offered platinum at 599 baht a month, and the challenged me to get the subscription number of anyone who says that they have. Now I prefer to believe Pattaya28 in what he says, but true have challenged him to prove it.So come on Pattaya28 please prove it, so that we can all get the same fair deal.

  18. So basically my question would be, is it worth changing. Although I love my football (man city for the league this year), there are a few other channels that my thai wife likes, because she finds it the best way to understand english, I.E. Diva Universal, AXN, and a couple of channels that show cooking programmes like hells kitchen and masterchef, which i don't think are available on CTH. What do CTH have in comparrison, and also movie channels. I don't mind swapping sky news for bbc news, and also there is the best comedy programme on tv Fox News. Lastly does anyone know yet if the commentary on the EPL is in english or thai, as they are 2 seperate contracts that they have to buy. Oh just one other thing guys, my wife paid the fone bill today and TOT gave her a free gift of a IPTV HD box, any idea what i do with it, as i am clueless when it comes to all these gadgets, can just about turn on my comp. thanks for any help.

  19. So I can only say that if anyone says that i am biased I have to reply here, Last time it got me banned, because I dared to critiscie the FC, but can anyone really tell me that it is as good as it used to be.

I can only say, that if anyone believes that is so, then they are very disillusnioned. For me, if i ever wanted to buy a bar in surin, and make it 100% profritable, it would have to be "Norbi's Bar". But I really care about Surin, because this is the place that i love to come for a weekend visit. Sadly whenever i go there at nightime, the only place i see any farangs is in the sportsman bar.
